Track Listing October 2010 » ePop 005 » page 2

EardrumsPop will release free digital singles on every

10th and 20th of the month. Every single will include two songs by the band, and in

addition several will include a cover-version of a song the single-bands think deserves

more attention. The cover art will be made by our favourite illustrators, and we like to

see the single as a split-release between the band and the illustrator.

The singles will vary in style, from acoustic folk-songs to noisy indiepop, everything in

between and more, but always warm and melodic.

Tracks:1. Holding Pattern *

2. Snow

3. The End of the World

» Track 1 & 2 written by Tiny Fireflies (* »Holding Pattern« contains a sample from

Serge Gainsbourg‘s »La Horse«), Track 3 written by Arthur Kent (music) and Sylvia Dee (lyrics).

Introduction to the band: Tiny Firef lies are Lisle and Kristine from the Chicago-

based indiepop-band Very Truly Yours, or, Lisle from Fireflies and Kristine from

Tiny Microphone. Together as a duo, they are Tiny Fireflies.

The first time the world heard the sound of Tiny Fireflies was on EardrumsPop’s

»Between Two Waves« compilation. We loved their song, and asked them to continue

their collaboration. This single is the first result. Let us hope for more in the future!

The Cover Art Designer: Minkee » Minkee, can you give us a short presentation of yourself and your art?

I’m an illustrator and printmaker who lives by the sea in England. I like bears, cake, and people who buy my prints. My prints are vibrant, fun and colourful, for vibrant, fun and colourful people!

» How did you get started in the illustration field?

I studied Graphic Design with Illustration at University, and from there joined a design company as an illustrator. Six years later and I’m now working freelance. However, I guess I really started to illustrate when I made my first book

»Where’s Snatch’s Bone?« aged 6.

» What are you working on right now?

I have a lovely little selection of projects on the go right now! I’m busy making a great little children’s book called »Max’s Little Brother«, a tattoo for my friends back and shoulders, and a series of prints based on fairy tales and nursery

rhymes. It’s fun!

» What are your favourite tools?

After the initial sketches I tend to work digitally, so I use either Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator depending on whether the project needs vector artwork or not! I think Illustrator is the one closest to my heart though. I love it!

The cover song: We have encouraged the single-bands

to make a cover version of a song they think deserves more attention. Tiny Fireflies

have chosen to cover »The End of The World«, originally performed by Skeeter Davis,

but Tiny Fireflies’ version is inspired by Claudine Longet’s cover of the song. Davis’

original version was released by RCA Records in December 1962 and reached its greatest

success in March 1963, peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart, number

two on the Billboard country singles chart. The music was written by Arthur Kent with lyrics

by Sylvia Dee. The song has been covered by a number of artists, including The Carpenters,

Herman’s Hermits, Julie London, Nancy Sinatra, Claudine Longet and many others. Now also

by Tiny Fireflies!

You can watch a video of the original by Skeeter Davis here:

About the cover song October 2010 » ePop 005 » page 10

Claudine LongetFrench born Claudine Longet was a popular singer and

recording artist in the 1960s and 1970s. Her career has become shadowed by the murder of skiing star Spider Sabich. Longet was convicted of »misdemeanor negligent

homicide« in 1977, and has never performed again after the criminal trial. In 1968, she appeared in »The Party« with Peter Sellers and sang »Nothing to Lose« by Henry

Mancini.

Longet recorded a series of five albums for A&M Records between 1966 and 1970 and two albums for her husband Andy Williams’ Barnaby label in 1971 and 1972. She also

made frequent acting appearances in television series. She appeared from time to time on Williams’ variety series and specials. Williams called Longet a beautiful, sleek brunette

with large doe eyes, »my favorite French singer«. (source: lastfm bio)
