Welcome and Introduction

Welcome to the Epicor EPM Installation Guide. This document is intended as a starting point to install andconfigure Epicor EPM (Enterprise Performance Management).

Note Epicor EPM Server can be used with a variety of business applications including Epicor ERP, Clientele,Avante, iScala. When referring to Content Packs, this guide references Epicor ERP Content Packs as anexample of how Epicor EPM interacts with that specific line of business applications.

Use the following process flow to determine your path through this comprehensive installation guide:

Epicor EPM includes several components, such as Epicor EPM Cube Connect, Epicor EPM Performance Canvas, and Epicor Glossary Designer. These components are designed to deploy and manage multi-dimensional datastructures and then allow access to the data from an Internet browser. An overview of the business reasons forusing Epicor EPM include:

• Epicor databases often store millions of business transactions. This large amount of business data can providevaluable insights into your business and can even give you information that is immediately actionable, if youknow how to get to it.

• OnLine Analytical Processing (OLAP) is the preferred way of extracting meaningful information from largedatasets. OLAP provides intuitive analysis and investigation of trends, patterns, ratios, and quantities intransaction data. While traditional row-and-column reports present a single, fixed view of your business data,

5Epicor ERP 10.0

Welcome and IntroductionEpicor Enterprise Performance Management Server Installation Guide

Page 6: EpicorEPM.serverInstallationGuide

OLAP allows you to interact with data. You can add and remove dimensions, apply filters, and change yourperspective on the data.

• OLAP is built on multidimensional data structures called cubes that need to be custom designed for each setof transaction data. Designing a cube is not a trivial task: it requires considerable knowledge of the structureof the source database. Once the cube has been created, there is no easy way to deploy it to other Epicorinstallations.

• Epicor EPM was designed to solve the issues of cube design and deployment. Epicor EPM is a cross-platformOLAP system that enables users to design cubes on the basis of the databases of a range of Epicor products.Cube design is simple and does not require knowledge of the Epicor database. Once created, cubes can bedeployed immediately, or they can be saved to file for later deployment.

Note Epicor EPM supports only the English language.

1.2 Verify Hardware Requirements

Verify that you have the following minimum or recommended hardware installed.

Note The following hardware requirements are for a single server hosting all of the core EPM Serversoftware including SQL Server, SQL Server Analysis Services, EPM Server, and EPM Performance Canvas.

• Minimum: 2.0 GHz CPU, 8 GB RAM, 240 GB HDD. A dual core processor is a minimum. For example, serverprocessors like Intel Duo or Itanium.

• Recommended: Dual 2.6 GHz CPUs, 16 GB RAM. A HDD estimate for the ODS and cubes is 3 times the sizeof the Epicor application transactional databases. Data Warehouses / Cube Servers typically grow in disk andRAM requirements over time as the amount of data analyzed grows, which means you need to plan forexpansion of the HDD and RAM. Quad or hex core processors are recommended. For example, server processorslike Intel Itanium. A 64-bit Operating System such as Windows Server 2008 x64 or Windows Server 2012 x64is strongly recommended. On a 32-bit Operating System SQL Server Analysis Services will be unable to usemore than 2GB of RAM.

Note The operating system requirement, either Windows Server 2008 or 2012 differ for 32-bit and 64-bitenvironments. The 32-bit version runs on up to 4 processors with up to 4 GB RAM; the 64-bit version iscapable of addressing up to 32 GB of RAM.

1.3 Verify Software Requirements

Verify that you have the following server and client software installed. Note that components of Epicor EPM mayhave different software requirements.
