SPECIAL NEWS
Finance Minister Taro Aso said on Tuesday that Japan will need to respond to currency market moves if results of the U.S. presidential election cause a sudden spike in the yen.Aso made the remarks when asked about market speculation that the safe-haven currency could spike if Republican nominee Donald Trump won the presidential race due on Nov. 8."I won't comment on results of other country's elections. But if it were to affect currencies, we would need to watch and re-spond, as stability in currencies is always important," Aso told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
Britain will only start to lower public debt as a share of GDP at the end of the decade due to a Brexit-related hit to the economy, a think tank said, underscoring finance minister Philip Hammond's challenge as he prepares his first budget statement. The Institute for Fiscal Studies predicted Britain would run a budget deficit of nearly 15 billion pounds ($18.6 billion)in the 2019/20 financial year, rather than a surplus of 10 billion pounds as forecast in the government's existing budget projections. That budget overshoot meant debt as a share of gross domestic product would hover around its cur-rent, historically high level of 84 percent until 2019/20 when it would start to fall again, the IFS said.

Crude oil prices fell further in Asia on Tuesday as China trade data for October disappointed from the world's second largest importer.Crude oil for December delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange fell 0.22% to $44.79 a barrel. Brent oil for January delivery on the ICE Futures Exchange in London dipped 0.30% to $46.16 a barrel. In China, the trade balance for October came in a surplus of $49.06 billion, narrower than the $51.07 billion seen as exports andimports missed expectations as well.Overnight, oil prices pushed higher during North Ameri-can hours on Monday, as appetite for riskier assets improved af-ter the FBI said no new evidence was found to warrant charges against Hillary Clinton in the investigation of her emails just two days before the U.S. election.
Gold prices held gains on Tuesday in Asia in the wake of weaker than expected trade data from China and as cautious trade ruled ahead of the U.S. presidential election and note in-creased expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike next month.Gold for December delivery on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange rose 0.35% to $1,283.85 a troy ounce. Also on the Comex, silver futures for December de-livery gained 0.40% to $18.223 a troy ounce. Copper futures however dropped 0.22% to $2.307 a pound. Copper futures have been well-supported in recent sessions as traders bet that the global economy may be gaining momentum after a long period of sluggish growth.
