J FLO

Epic100:What is your name, and name?• The names JAY FLO aka JAY FLO KILLA aka THE GOLDEN STATE CHILD (G.S.C)Epic100: How did your name?• Ever since high school I been rappin and people already were callin me FLO (short for my last name FLORES) and JAY because of the first letter in my first name (JAIME) . So when someone wanted to hear me spit something they would just be like “ay jay, flo” and It clicked and I started thinkin ay why not that be my m.c name JAY FLO it just goes, and it was a rap from there.Epic100: How would you describe your music/art/entertainment for the public audience if they have never seen you before?• I would describe it as something different as in my style, my art of rapping witch I like to call “floenometry”, and

not your typical “rapper”. I bring a certain energy to the stage but this upcoming show will something exciting its my first SOLO performance. I was affiliated with a group known as R.A.P but have decided to try a solo gig and see where I branch out.Epic 100:As a child growing up, music surrounds us; what type of music did you hear the most back then? How does it differ from what you listen to now?• As a child I remember listening to

more rock n roll than anything. Til this day my favorite band is the beatles. Its weird because I am a hip hop artist but I find the too catagories similar. I listen to the beatles and I feel up lifted by there lyrics and the instruments they used and the messegas they try to get across and that same feeling I get, I try to bring to the songs I write so that my audience can really get a feel for what im feeling and trying to say. PLUS IM TRYIN TO JUST MAKE GOOD QUALITY MUSIC!Epic 100: What made you first realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?• It took a dramatic experience to realize what I wanted out of life and what I wanted to accomplish before I die. I noticed that the industry was just really lacking a lot of real natural talent and everything is just fabricated with “swag” or wat kinda car you drive. Basically listening to the radio and watching these ridiculous videos on tv made me say “if you can do it, I can do it better” and I look forward to proving that at my next show.Epic 100:What can people expect to see at your live performance?• They can expect the birth of the newest, hottest, solo artist in the inland empire…I.E im holdin it down baby RIALTO, CA WESTCOAST ALL DAY!!

Epic100: How long have you been performing live or making art? Man I’ve been making music for years now, but I’ve only been per-forming live for almost 2 years Epic100: If you had to categorize your music, what genre would it best fit? (Name up to three) I guess if I had to it would be Hip-Hop, Rap, & LyricalEpic100: Do you feel the economic crunch has hurt the industry, or do you have some other promotional tips to help support your music?Ya I feel that it hurt the industry because people are no longer buying as many cds as they once did. Well there is always the free methods that seem to be the best (facebook, twitter, youtube.) Epic100: If yo had to think of a slogan that could leave a positive impact for everyone what would your slogan be? The slogan I guess would be, “ “ Epic100: Do you currently have an agent, endorsement, record label, sponsor, etc.?Currently I don’t have any of that, but I’m always up for having them if the opportunity comes. Epic100: What do you think makes you and your type of music unique from other artists? I think what makes me and my music unique is that I don’t front in my tracks and try to be something I’m not. I put my all into each track I make and am not afraid of talking about real topics and things that I have been through. Epic100: Have you recorded any previous CD’s or posted any audio files on the internet? (What type of recording process did you use? Who produced your recording?) If you have a current CD released, how long

did the process take for you to do from start to finish? So far I’ve only recorded and put out mixtapes. From all of the mate-rial I’ve released it has all been recorded in my bedroom. The process I have for making my CDs does not take me very long as far as getting tracks recorded its more or less just picking the tracks that I am going to end up using.Epic100: Where do you think your largest fan base is located, and why?I think my largest fan base comes from facebook and youtube not really a set location besides from the city I’m from (La Puente, CA) because they know I’m bringing real music, and eventually many more will as well. Epic100: When things seem to go negatively at times, how do you turn things into something positive? Man something is always going to go wrong, that’s just life. I usually don’t let any of these setbacks get to me though because I see them as dis tractions from what I’m working towards and I need to only sur-round myself with positive energy. Just for fun….fill in the blanks! Without music, I would be ___Lost. Music is _____Freedom. My music makes me feel ___like I’m adding to the solution instead of adding to the problem. I write the songs because ____people deserve to hear good music and I feel I can provide it to them. Support music because ____all of this noise is drowning out quality music and we need to put a stop to that.

people deserve to hear good music and I feel I can provide it to them.

Epic100: How long have you been performing live or making music?

I have been performing since 2007...

Epic100: If you had to categorize your music, what genre would it best fit? (Name up to three)

I definitely tend to steer towards more conscious hip hop, but I don’t like to place myself in a category. I make all kinds of music underground and mainstream

Epic100: Do you feel the economic crunch has hurt the industry, or do you have some other promotional tips to help support your music?

Yea I mean the economy has affected everything. As far as the major industry it keeps going down the drain everyday...I mean there’s only 2 labels left (Sony/Universal)...I think the independent scene is where it’s at right now

Epic100: If yo had to think of a slogan that could leave a positive impact for everyone what would your slogan be?

Follow your dreams

Epic100: Do you currently have an agent, endorsement, record label, sponsor, etc.?

I am on an indie label out of Sacramento, CA called First Dirt... they basically handle all my booking and stuff like that... I recently just got sponsored by Insanity Ink Clothing

Epic100: What do you think makes you and your type of music unique from other artists?

What makes me unique …is me… I do me, I’m telling my story… I’m a very deep dude...I don’t fabricate anything...I give it to you the way I get it

Epic100: Have you recorded any previous CD’s or posted any audio files on the internet? (What type of recording process did you use? Who produced your recording?) If you have a current CD released, how long did the process take for you to do from start to finish?

I’ve been posting music up as long as I’ve been able to…I am currently working on a project and its takes forever...I mean the writing and creative process for me is the easy part...it’s really a headache but in the end the product will speak for itself... I work with a lot of different producers. Now since I’m on a label I mostly deal with our in-house producers which are amazing...

Epic100: Where do you think your largest fan base is located, and why?

Aside from my hometown (the i.e.) my biggest fan base is in Sacramento, CA...This is because my label is from there and since I’ve been on the label I’ve had most of my big shows in Sacramento and made lots of fans up there in doing so.Epic100: When things seem to go negatively at times, how do you turn things into something positive? I remind myself why I’m doing this... and how far I’ve come ...and I look at all the people that are supporting me

Just for fun….fill in the blanks!Without music, I would be dead or in jail_____________.Music is My Escape_.My music makes me feel ________human_____________.I write the songs because I’ve never been good at talking to people about myself Support music because _________________I’m just like Yall ____.

Epic100: How would you describe your music/art/entertainment or the public audience if they have never seen you before?TC: Unique, live, different, animated, energetic, unpredictable.Epic100: Thinking back to early childhood, what was your first experience with music for the first time like? What song do you remember most as a child?TC: My first experience with music was with my pops he would listen to a lot of old school music and jazz...I remember feelin the vibe and beat of the music rather than the lyrics. I remember Das EFX’s song… “They want EFX” was the first song I knew every word to.Epic100: What made you first realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?

Since I am consistently working on new projects, I make a point to perform new material as well as classic songs my fans are familiar with. The latest opportunity I have been given is signing a distribution deal with Snoop Dogg and his company GGOD.

from what you listen to now?I grew up listening to a lot of Oldies, soft Jazz and soulful music... The difference from then and now is back then the music was more heart felt, believable and influential. Now days it’s so much going on with music you’re not able to even grip the concept of the songs you hear. Epic100: What was the first song you ever sang? How did it make you feel? The first song I ever song The first song I ever sang truthfully I would have to say Change is gonna come by Sam Cooke. It was so much going on back then as a kid, with my mother being gone me and my brother being locked in a room throughout a whole day... And this was while I was staying with my grandmother she ran a foster home and we became a part of that the minute my mother was incarcerated... The love for good music willnever die...

C T EXPLICIT

Epic100: How long have you been performing live or making art?I have been writing music since I was 9yrs old. “1995 to be exact” In 2005 I met a person who would have the ultimate impact I needed to really put my passion into motion. Gerald Parks aka Lil G. At that moment I became an Original member of Ack Right Ent. In 2007 after really crafting and molding myself for 2 years, another one of my label mates Young Blacc set me up with my first show. “These 2 guys really exposed me, I just predicted the future”.

Epic100: If you had to categorize your music, what genre would it best fit?

Classifying my music is simple once you break down what the term (Explicit) means. It has 3 definitions. 1.

Continue Next page.

Page 30: Epic 100 The Indie Book

30 Epicenter 100 Publishing company www.Epic100Radio.com

C T EXPLICIT Clearly expressed, 2. Distinctly stated, 3. definite. With that be-ing said, my music is universal. “I just love hip hop” My flow is undeniable no matter what scenario I’m approaching. My word play is highly respected. “You sound good is what they tell me”

Epic100: Do you feel the economic crunch has hurt the industry, or do you have some other promotional tips to help support your music?

Although the economic crunch has put a damper on my abil-ity to support my career like I would want to, I still feel like the love for good music will never die. I like to take avenues that artist take for ranted. Anywhere I can be seen I feel goes along way Performance or supporting wise. You can’t receive any love if you don’t show any. Real recognize real. Networking is the key, or at least it is for me.

Epic100: If yo had to think of a slogan that could leave a posi-tive impact for everyone what would your slogan be?Grynd Savvy is the slogan. Not to be mistaken for anything gang or drug related. But more about identifying different productive ways to Grynd but having the same ending goal. Making ends meet. “I stay savvy’d up”

Epic100: Do you currently have an agent, endorsement, record label, sponsor, etc.?

GSHM Grynd Savvy Hustle Music is my record company/la-bel… Very soon to be fully established.

Epic100: What do you think makes you and your music unique from other artists? My upfront lyrical word play is what people love. But my pre-cise tactic that creates high expectations, anticipation, and ea-gerness, is why my art is unique from others. Its prerogative “It gets the people going”

Epic100: Have you recorded any previous CD’s or posted any audio files on the internet? (What type of recording process did you use? Who produced your recording?) If you have a current CD released, how long did the process take for you to do from start to finish?

As of now right I have 2 free mixtapes out. Explicit Biznezz Vol 1 which was released on Halloween in 2011 and The Pre Savvy which was released on 8/1/2012 both on Datpiff. With the help of another artist/engineer named Sham Roccus we were able to record, mix, and master 2 projects in less than a year that have definitely left an impression on lis-teners.

Suveria MotaActress

Fresh from a flight from Miami, an elegant dressed Suveria Mota slips into a booth at “

The Proud Bird “ on a cloudy California day. Her bright smile and loose hair are a sharp contrast with the weather outside. I apologize for making her come out to speak with us, but to my surprise, she says “Oh but I looove the rain. The smell of it... the sound it makes” she glances out the window says, “I don’t know” and smiles back at me as if

saying, I can’t help it.Hailing from Washington Heights this Dominican beauty is not afraid to leave her roots behind in order to follow her dreams. Those big screen dreams came at the age of ten after watching a re-run of Gone with the Wind late one night. From that moment on, she knew that one day the busy street lights of NYC would be changed to the hills of Hollywood.

Epic100: I’ve got to ask you do you like Hip hop music. who’s your favorite artist? Suveria: Ahh yes!! Who doesn’t love hip hop?! It’s so hard to pick just one artist. I love T.I, 50, Kanye, Jay-Z, Drake, Tyga, ohh Biggie too. This is so hard. I’m from NYC, so it’s impossible not to love hip hop. Also, as a female, the eye candy is great too!!!Epic100:I can appreciate your taste in music those guys are the corner stone of music these days… yeah! Epic100: Which actors/actresses alive or deceased have influenced your acting style?Suveria: Definitely Vivien Leigh and Maria Montez. Vivien because I admire her acting and Maria, because like me, she too was Dominican. I like that even in the 20’s she was able to become a big star. Epic100: Are there any specific directors or actors/actresses that you would like to work with? Suveria: Oh, Pedro Almodovar for directing, and Penelope Cruz for acting. I don’t know if it’s their work chemistry together, but I love seeing their work. Also, she carries herself very beautifully!

What type of roles would you most like to play? Suveria: Eventually I’d love to be in an epic. An old, historic tale. Epic100: Are there any projects that you are currently working on that you would care to share? Suveria: As of now, I’m working on a few shorts.Epic100:Is there any ritual that you do before an audition?Suveria: Ha ha, before an audition I first and foremost pray, and then I pray more. That’s pretty much my ritual. I leave everything up to the God almighty.

Epic100:What do you do to prepare yourself when you’re going after a particular role?Suveria: I do a character breakdown. I try to figure out, what the character’s ultimate goal is in the particular scene that I’m reading for. Defiantly try to breakdown the character as much as possible.Epic100: Do you use an acting coach to go over lines with?Suveria: Yes! Her name is Deryn Warren. She’s amazing at helping me get to that next level.Epic100: Last but not least, does your name mean anything?Suveria: Ha-ha, funny you ask!! Everyone always asks me that. The truth is no, it doesn’t mean anything. When I want to mess with people, I lie and say that it means Dominican princess. He he, don’t tell anyone.
