Our use of natural resources impacts the environment on a local, regional, and global scale. Study important issues directly related to the consequences of human action on the natural landscape, and gain insight and understanding of the policies and the history that led us to this point.
WHAT WILL I STUDY? Through small classes and hands-on experiences, your B.A. or B.S. in Environmental Studies will provide you with a fundamental background in the sciences that are necessary to understand the environment as well as historical and political perspectives. You'll gain effective communication skills that allow you to find possible solutions to local or global problems. By focusing on biology, ecology, and government and economic policies, you will graduate ready to enter into a career with governmental agencies, the forestry service, or other environmental groups.
UNDERSTANDING ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES AND SOLVING ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS REQUIRES AN INTEGRATED INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH — AND THIS IS WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE AT FLORIDA SOUTHERN.

LEARNING BY DOING
Don't just read about renewable energy, climate change, and endangered animals — work alongside faculty to investigate their causes and solutions.
GET OUTDOORS — Our courses have plenty of hands-on field components — you’ll experience environmental science by getting out into the field to observe nature and collect data.
CONDUCT ORIGINAL RESEARCH — Whether you find yourself collecting soil samples from local marshlands or charting the migration patterns of sea turtles in the Galapagos Islands, you'll collaborate with faculty to gain insights into ecological issues.
PRESENT AT CONFERENCES — An important part of doing research is sharing your findings with the scientific community. Most recently, environmental studies students attended the Bahamas National Trust conference and the Association of Southeastern Biologists conference to share their results.
MORE THAN
A VACATION
Your Junior Journey experience will provide opportunities for you to make a lasting impact during your travels. Students have restored marshes in the Caribbean and replanted indigenous plants destroyed by hurricanes to prevent shoreline erosion in the British Virgin Islands.
