Environmental operationsA wide range of solutions

Soil pollution with various hazard level from former industrial sites, landfills or improper waste disposal may cause considerable environmental issues. Keller can implement appropriate techniques to remediate or retain them, in order to avoid further risks in the future for environment and people.

A safe ground for the future.

 Remediation of brownfield sites

Immobilization or solidification of soil contaminants

 Containment of contaminated zones

Use of various ground works techniques

In situ soil remediation Immobilization of contaminants Pollution containment

In situ soil remediation, immobilization and containment techniquesDifferent techniques can be implemented depending on the brownfield properties like the type and amount of contaminant, the ground water conditions, various chemical parameters and the presence of structures on the contaminated ground.

Possible solutions

1 In situ soil remediation:full pollution degradation by introducing remediating agents

 Soilcrete®

 Grouting and chemical grouting

Deep soil mixing / Mass mixing

 Soilfrac®

2 Immobilization of contaminants:safe solidification of pollution

 Soilcrete®

 Grouting and chemical grouting

Deep soil mixing / Mass mixing

 Soilfrac®

3 Pollution containment:sealing shell around the contaminated zone

Cut-off wall with excavator, top vibrator or as diaphragm wall

Deep soil mixing / Mass mixing

Use of slurry, cement and /or membrane

Advantages

Minimal impact on people and existing structures

 Conformity to environmental standards

Solutions available to treat different contaminant types (heavy metals, hydrocarbons, …)

 Sophisticated site investigation

Efficient decontamination with minimal excavation of soil waste

 Monitoring with detailed records

Close cooperation between owner, environmental specialist and ground works specialist

HaloCrete remediation technique

Keller developed an in situ remediation method using nano iron particles against organic solvents (chlorinated hydrocarbons, CHCs) with the Soilcrete® technology. It aims at destroying especially highly contaminated source zones. Its application could also be extended to other contaminants.

Steps of HaloCrete remediation

1 Before execution

 Classification of contamination

Site investigation with special regard to contamination source and plume extension

Laboratory examination of reaction behavior between soil and slurry (reactant)

2 Treatment with Soilcrete®

 Drilling of the rod

 Soil jetting

 Grouting with special slurry mixture

3 After treatment

Test of executed columns for reactant distribution and content

Monitoring necessary as always in remediation projects

In-house Research & Development

 Cooperation with:

Column tests in laboratory Soilcrete® operation during large-scale field test

Solving complex foundation and soil problems with customized solutions and methods developed in house is our strength!

We will be pleased to support your team with our solutions!

Exhaustive laboratory tests with batch and column trials

Large-scale field tests with extensive contaminant monitoring

Chemical and mechanical analysis of solid samples, slurries and ground water
