Project Background

• Aging effects and increase passenger landing

requires the need for refurbishment and upgrading

of the existing jetty and terminal building: – Upgrading of the existing jetty and construction of new international

jetty and new CIQ building

– Partial demolition of existing terminal building, refurbishment and

upgrading of existing terminal building

– Construction of new utilities building to facilitate the entire terminal

upgraded services

• The project need to be carried out with minimum

disturbance to the existing operation hence the

activities will be carried out in 2 phases

Effects of the existing ferry operation to TSS &

Turbidity

• Sediment churn up due to ferry movement near the

sampling points

• Sediment churn up due to discharge from the ferry dock

near the project area

• Ferry operation closer to the shoreline upon completion

of jetty refurbishment works

existing ferry and terminal operation

• Inconsistency in nutrient concentration

Recommendation

• Waste audit for demolition project during planning and design

stage for identification of reusable material and better waste

management system

• Requirements for appropriate diversion of existing services

should be identified in the planning and design stage

• Specific control measures to be incorporated into the tender

requirements e.g. netting to prevent falling waste, control of

sanitation discharge from the barge, etc.

• Close communication of environmental personnel with site

management team on work plan and logistic arrangement to

facilitate environmental management onsite

• Progressive and on-going revision of EMP based on site

charges
