Pig Iron is one of the basic raw materials required by the foundry and casting industry for manufacture of various types of castings for the engineering sector.

• The growth of the steel sector is intricately linked with the growth of the Indian economy and especially the growth of the steel consuming sectors.

• The region shall also be benefited from the project as there will be direct employment of people in the plant.

• There will be lot of scope for indirect employment of the people of the state in and around the project site like in transportation sector.

Copies of Consent of Establish/No Objection Certificate and Consent to Operate (in case of units operating prior to EIA Notification 2006, CTE and CTO of FY 2005-2006) obtained from the SPCB shall be submitted. The existing plant for production of 12,000 TPA Pig Iron through 1x23m3 Mini Blast Furnace and 2x12 Ovens Non-recovery type Coke Oven Plant for production of 15,000 TPA Coke were installed after taking Consent to Establish from JSPCB vide letter No. 225 dated 25.01.2007.

The prior Environmental Clearance under EIA Notification, 2006 was not taken due to ignorance about the requirement and hence taken ToR from MoEF&CC on 01.02.2019 as per provisions under S.O. 804 (E) dated 14.03.2017 for the project under Violation and expansion.

CTO was never granted by JSPCB for operation of the installed plant and the plant was never operated since installation.

X. Geological features and Geo-hydrological status of the study area shall be included.

Geological Features

The oldest geological formation which occurs in the district is the crystalline metamorphic of Archaean age, which forms the basement. The area is underlain by rocks belonging to Chotanagpur granite gneissic complex of Proterozoic age comprising of biotite and quartz biotite granite gneiss. These are overlain by lower Gondwana sedimentaries which were deposited in the slowly sinking faulted troughs or basins. Quartz biotite granite gneiss covers a large part of the area and seems to be intruded by granites. Some area has been noticed with basaltic formation of cretaceous era.

Geo-hydrological Features

Ground water under unconfined condition is occurring in the weathered mantle whereas under semi-confined to confined condition it occurs in deeper fractures. The

water level in the area underlies in the phreatic conditions. The site is having specific yield upto 10 m3/hr. Pre-Monsoon (May 2019) water level depth at the site varies from 7.2 to 10.3 mbgl and Post-Monsoon (November 2019) water level depth varies from 4.8 to 7.4 mbgl. The project area lies in the ‘Safe’ category zone for the future ground water development.

7. Impact Assessment and Environment Management Plan

I. Assessment of ground level concentration of pollutants from the stack emission based on site-specific meteorological features. In case the project is located on a hilly terrain, the AQIP Modeling shall be done using inputs of the specific terrain characteristics for determining the potential impacts of the project on the AAQ.

Cumulative impact of all sources of emissions (including transportation) on the AAQ of the area shall be well assessed. Details of the model used and the input data used for modeling shall also be provided. The air quality contours shall be plotted on a location map showing the location of project site, habitation nearby, sensitive receptors, if any.

The project is not located on a hilly terrain.

Air quality Modeling has been done for determining cumulative impact of all sources of emission. ISCST3 (US-EPA approved) Dispersion Model was used to predict the impact of the project on air quality.

Greenbelt will be developed over ~33% area of the total plant area. Out of the 4.75 ha. of the plant area, about 1.57 ha. will be developed as greenbelt. Approx. 2500 trees will be planted.

Action plan for rainwater harvesting measures at plant site shall be submitted to harvest rainwater from the roof tops and storm water drains to recharge the groundwater and also to use for the various activities at the project site to conserve freshwater and reduce the water requirement from other sources.
