  • What is REQUILAC?

    It is a multidisciplinary community, in order to promote the exchange

    of information and generate knowledge on prevention, preparedness

    and response to chemical emergencies.

  • INFORMATION SYSTEM INCHEMICAL EMERGENCIES

    CETESB

  • CHEMICAL EMERGENCIES INFORMATION SYSTEM – SIEQ

    10,044 incidents registered from 1978 to 2014 in the São Paulo State.

  • CETESB ACTIVITIES IN EMERGENCIES

  • Accident involving "Endosulfan”• November 18, 2008,

    more than 10,000 liters of pesticides "endosulfan" leaked from a tank company "Servatis" and caused the death of dozens of tons of fish in the Paraíba do Sul River, Resende, Rio de Janeiro.

  • Accident involving "Endosulfan”

    • Servatis was fined R $ 33 million imposed by the Department of Environment of Rio de Janeiro.

  • Accident involving "Endosulfan”

    • The product leaked during transfer of a cart-tank had a capacity of 30,000 liters.

  • Safety Data Sheet - SDS

    NBR 14725

    Intention of SDS

    • Comprehensive information to professional usersof how to protect health and the environment;

    • Tool for the employer to perform risk assessment at the workplace;

    • A carrier of information throughout the distribution chain of chemical products.

  • Safety Data Sheet - SDS

    NBR 14725

    Easy to read and understand

    • Clear and concise;• All relevant data necessary to prevent injury and to protect the environment;• Date of issue• 16 mandatory sections

    SDS should be prepared by a competentperson

  • 1. Identification of the product and of the supplier and manufacturer2. Identification of damage to health and the environment(hazard(s) identification) 3. Composition / information oningredients4. First aid5. Measures firefighting6. Measures to be taken in case spill or leak7. Handling and Storage8. Exposure Controls / PersonalProtection;

  • So that the chemicals can be handled safely to healthand the environment, whether in internal operations,whether in transport procedures, treatment or disposal,information is needed regarding the composition anddangerousness.

    IDENTIFICATION AND LABELLINGOF CHEMICAL PRODUCTS

  • The ADOPTED RISK SYMBOL BY National FireProtection Association (NFPA) of the United States,whose example cited is also known as Hommeldiagram or Diamond Danger, is considered very simple,informative and quick understanding .

  • DIAMOND HOMMEL

  • Since the 1960’s there have been internationally developed ”rules” for transport of dangerous goods (TDG).

  • Class 1: ExplosivesClass 2: GasesClass 3: Flammable liquidsClass 4: Flammable solids, pyrophores, water-reactives, self-reactivesClass 5: Oxidising substances, organic peroxidesClass 6: Toxic and infectious substancesClass 7: Radioactive materialClass 8: Corrosive substancesClass 9: Miscellaneous dangerous substances

    The nine Classes of dangerous goods

  • HAZARDOUS MATERIALS WARNING LABELS

  • The Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals

    What is GHS?

    www.unece.org/trans/danger/publi/ghs/officialtext.html

  • What is GHS?• A simple and coherent approach to

    definition and classification of risks ofchemicals and communication ofinformation through labels and MaterialSafety Data Sheet information.
