Environment & Conservation Environmental awareness Environmental awareness is to understand the environ- ment around us, and the importance of its protection. By promoting en- vironmental awareness we are helping create a brighter future for our children. It is much easier to start with the right attitude then to change years of bad habits. This is why it is important for us to teach our children at a young age. NQS and the Early Years Learning Framework recommends that we include sustainability in every day practices. This provides children the chance to learn the importance of sustainability to help our environ- ment around us. Children at a young age can learn and understand about the environment in a fun and edu- cational way when they have the opportunity to look at story books and have educational shows which teach them simple things such as recycling rubbish (paper, glass, plastic in recycle bins) turning off lights when finished in a room and turning taps off while brushing teeth. Other activities include: Engage children in discussions about sustainable practices. Such as noticing how a garbage bin is full, how food and scraps left over after meal times etc. Encourage children to participate in a recycling program (recycling bins for card- board, plastic and paper) or involve them in developing new strategies for recycling materials (using donated materials for art n craft or donating materials to council clean ups etc.) For older children, environmental issues such as drought or daily weather reports including updates on air quality and pollution levels should be discussed during morn- ing group time or and a chart to record these findings should be made as visuals within the room. For Kindy children, choose Energy Saversresponsible for noticing lights, fans and other appliances left on when not in use. Likewise, choose Water Saversrespon- sible for noticing taps left on and other wasted water. Winter weather With the cold winter weather upon us we get coughs, colds and sniffles. If your child is sick and not able to attend childcare please ensure to call us early in the morning so that neces- sary cleaning and hygiene practices can be followed. Under the staying healthy in childcaredocument any person with an infectious illness is required to be kept at home for 24 hours. If children have a temperature, diarrhoea and/or vomiting or require antibiotics, we ask that parents please keep their children home for at least 24 hours to be clear of symptoms and medication has time to begin working. Antibiotics can be administered by edu- cators as long as it is authorised on a medication form filled out by parents each day. Environmental awareness

Environmental awareness is to understand the environ-ment around us, and the importance of its protection. By promoting en-

vironmental awareness we are helping create a brighter future for our children. It is much easier to start with the right attitude then to change years of bad habits. This is why it is important for us to teach our children at a young age. NQS and the Early Years Learning Framework recommends that we include sustainability in every day practices. This provides children the chance to learn the importance of sustainability to help our environ-ment around us. Children at a young age can learn and understand about the environment in a fun and edu-cational way when they have the opportunity to look at story books and have educational shows which teach them simple things such as recycling rubbish (paper, glass, plastic in recycle bins) turning off lights when finished in a room and turning taps off while brushing teeth. Other activities include:

Engage children in discussions about sustainable practices. Such as noticing how a garbage bin is full, how food and scraps left over after meal times etc.

Encourage children to participate in a recycling program (recycling bins for card-board, plastic and paper) or involve them in developing new strategies for recycling materials (using donated materials for art n craft or donating materials to council clean ups etc.)

For older children, environmental issues such as drought or daily weather reports including updates on air quality and pollution levels should be discussed during morn-ing group time or and a chart to record these findings should be made as visuals within the room.

For Kindy children, choose “Energy Savers” – responsible for noticing lights, fans and other appliances left on when not in use. Likewise, choose ‘Water Savers” – respon-sible for noticing taps left on and other wasted water.

With the cold winter weather upon us we get coughs, colds and sniffles. If your child is sick and not able to attend childcare please ensure to call us early in the morning so that neces-sary cleaning and hygiene practices can be followed.

Terrific Turtle Toddlers

Blossoming Butterflies News

Welcome all parents and caregivers to another edition of our newsletter. Welcome to the new Toddlers those just recently moved in our room. Our Toddler room educators are trying their best to develop a positive and caring relationship with them and help them become familiar within the new environment. This month our Toddlers are excited to learn about Transport and Road Safety. Tod-dler were always interested to play with cars and trains, so we decided to learn about different forms of transport and road safety to extend on their learning. In the room the Toddlers are participating in making various collages of transports. We have al-ready made pop sticks cars, trains with children’s faces, cars, hot air balloons, aero-planes, boats etc. The children are enjoying singing “Wheels on the Bus "and “Traffic lights” songs. If you have your spare moment please look around the room for your child’s art work and provide us feedback on your thoughts. We are reading “Elmo’s Road Safety Book” as well as more books relating to transport. The children are learning about road safety such as putting seat belt on, helmets on, traffic lights and much more. We are also teaching our children about personal hygiene such as washing hands, tis-sue use tissue when blowing their nose and covering coughs. As it is winter time, could you please pack your child’s winter clothes and clearly la-bel them as we found a lot of winter clothes that are not labelled. Kind Regards Toddler Room Educators

Welcome to another month of news from the baby room. We would like to welcome all our new children and families that have started with us at Kidz Club. We hope that the children have settled into their new environment and are making close bonds with educators. If you have any questions about how your child is going, please do not hesitate to speak to an educator or give a quick call during the day.

We also have many children who have graduated to the “Terrific Turtle Toddler Room”! Con-gratulations to Sienna, Harshi, Marlee, Kenzi, Isabella, Riley, Emily and Hanna. We hope you have settled into the Toddler Room, made new fiends and having lots of new learning opportu-nities.

We have been enjoying fun dinosaur facts with the children and learning about everything from the ferocious Tyrannosaurus Rex to the enormous Diplodocus. While dinosaurs came a long time before us humans, fossils and modern technology have helped us piece together what dinosaurs may have looked like and even how they might have behaved. The younger babies have enjoyed doing action songs to various dinosaur songs and lyrics.

They say “a change is as good as a holiday”, so in the Baby Room, we have had the oppor-tunity to change the layout and various learning environments in the room. We have tried to incorporate some new experiences and engaging learning opportunities, so that all the chil-dren will find the room exciting and challenging.

Our curriculum will reflect our learning that has occurred during the month and we would en-gage parents to take the time to reflect on their own child’s learning and interest at the mo-ment. Remember to record some input onto our curriculum, so that we can incorporate this into our everyday experiences and extend your child’s learning and that of others.

HOUSE KEEPING: Please remember to pack changes of labelled clothes, as the chil-dren have shown an interest in self feeding and label all items brought to Kidz Club so that it can go back to the rightful owner.

Keep healthy and stay warm in this winter weather. ~Baby Room Educator.

Keen Kitten Kindy P A G E 3

Welcome to another busy month of Kindy News. The Kindy children have been really interested in seeing how things work and exploring the World around them so this month our theme is Science. Science helps answer all those tough questions kids ask, like “’Why is the sky blue?’ and ’Where does stars come from?’. Science is one of the fewest subjects that is responsive to a child’s need to learn about the World surrounding them. Children absolutely love Science. The benefits of science for kids is tremendous. When children work together on science projects their interactions will in-crease with conservation. Their conversations will result in cooperative play. Children will begin to talk to each other about their predictions, what they observe, and they will ask questions. In the Kindy Room we will be doing a variety of different Science experiments which togeth-er as a group we have decided on. Some of these include mixing different colours and see-ing what other colours we can make. Making Bouncy Balls—the children get to choose which mould they would like and which colours they want. They then help to put the mould in water to set and through science they have a bouncy ball. World Environment Day is Sunday the 5th of June and the Kindy Room will be talking about how we can help our environment. For example talking about how we save energy by turn-ing off the lights when we are not in the room, conserving water. Turning the taps off when we have finished washing our hands and using less paper towel. We will also have a nature display table where the children can use their senses; hearing, touch, smell, sight and taste. The nature table allows the changes that are taking place in the natural world to be given expression indoors. “The items on the table depict the essence of what is happening in na-ture. Creating and maintaining a nature table sharpens observation of what goes on in na-ture”. We would love your input into our Curriculum and welcome any suggestions or ideas you have. Please write them in our suggestions book located under the Curriculum board. Soon we will be implementing a take home teddy, which the children will be naming. The teddy will be accompanied with a book where you can make a collage of photo’s which have been taken of teddy’s adventure at home. Everyone will get a turn and will have the teddy for a week. The activity connects what children are learning at Kindy and extending that to their home. Kind Regards Kindy Room

French Linguistic Program 2016

Bonjour! This month we have been revising our introduc-tions and greetings through games and songs. We have also been exploring French culture through picture books and songs. Stuart (Tintin) has been working on the e-learning linguistic program, which includes a weekly video and worksheet that allows the children to revise and practice their French at a time that they feel comfortable. Each child in the Kindy room has been supplied with a French Com-munication Booklet which will allow us to share information in regards to your child’s language learning, as well as allow parents to provide feedback on the French Linguistic Program easily. À bientôt! Hayley French Language Educator Mon—Wed

Jay’s Jungle LIVE in Golden Grove

When: Jun 18, 2016 Where: The Golden Way, Golden Grove Time: Saturday 10-10.45am

KENYA IS HOME TO THE CRITICALLY ENDANGERED

BLACK RHINO. THERE ARE LESS THAN 5,000 RE-

MAINING IN THE WILD, LARGELY DUE TO POACH-

ING.

You can help the community, livestock and wildlife of northern Kenya live together in harmony by purchasing beautiful beaded decorations and jewellery, which will be available in Kindy Room.

The Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) is a community-led conservation initiative whose members depend largely on livestock for their livelihoods. The NRT is working to develop alternative in-comes for these communities and an obvious choice is the stunning beadwork traditionally made and worn by the region’s women. The NRT has established a micro-loan credit system to enable the women to set up small businesses. They are working to train women in business skills and product development as well as providing access to adult literacy classes and health services.

Kidz Club Child Care & Educational Centre will be supporting this worthwhile cause and we hope to raise much needed funds for the people and animals in South Africa.

Our professional learning programs are embedded in current research and practice, supporting services to deliver outcomes for children and families. The connection with our children's programs enables our professional learning to be relevant, ac-cessible and practical, supporting requirements under the National Quality Framework. Some future professional develop-ment will involve these topics. We work and advocate for the wellbeing and learning of all children, families and educators in our society.
