MISSION
We are inspired by your mission. New places facilitate what you do and convey your aspirations. We begin our work by seeking to understand your guiding principles and finding ways to foster them in both the process and the resultant “bricks and mortar.”

PROCESS
The administrators, staff and faculty we work with are extraordinarily busy. One of the most important roles we can play is to facilitate collaboration in a way that respects the realities of your everyday operations.
We employ a disciplined process of planning and design that is organized and purposeful. It empowers stakeholders to contribute to the solution and recognizes the unique expertise of each participant. Our process can include visioning, shadowing, integrated design sessions, simulation computer modeling and even full scale mockups. We employ principles of Lean Process Improvement and seek opportunities to employ Evidence Based Design.
The journey should be as gratifying as the arrival.

Our approach to quality is founded on establishing clear lines of responsibility and communication within our team and with you. We pride ourselves in strong project performance: measures like budget, schedule and change-orders. But, perhaps even more importantly, we seek to identify and perform to mission-oriented measures: things like faculty class-room requests, library visits, demand for services, student and prospective student survey responses and funding.

John C. Kohlhas, AIAPrincipal | Architecture
The first 26 years of John’s career led him to the presidency of GBQC Architects where he planned, designed and managed projects ranging from modest renovations to multi-build-ing campuses while enjoying the collegial environment of a nationally recognized design firm. In 2006, John merged GBQC with Cubellis taking the helm of that firm’s academic practice nationally and helping to develop the team in Philadelphia, now Environetics. John’s work in higher education is wide-ranging including academic buildings for individual schools within a university, general classrooms, science and research, as well as libraries, sports and recreation facilities, conference centers and campus plans. John recently completed a gymnasium conversion at Rutgers University, a feasibility study for the Physics Complex at UConn, and he is working on the new School of Education at The College of New Jersey.
Steven Kopp, AIAAssociate | Architecture
After graduating from Temple University in 1994, Steve worked for several firms in the Phila-delphia area gaining experience and skills in a variety of project types including commercial office buildings, manufacturing, primary and higher education, and government. Steve be-came a licensed architect in 1998.
He enjoys working with clients and managing complex projects with multiple team members. Steve has been responsible for architectural, civil, structural and MEP coordination. He has performed and managed teams through schematic design, site development, design devel-opment and construction documentation. Steve manages staffing for the Environetics office and was instrumental in creating a lunch time staff training program across all disciplines.
Jonathan Hicks, LEED APArchitecture
Born into a family of builders and engineers, Jon was creating house plans and render-ings by early high school, where he also focused on drawing and sculpture. Graduating from Syracuse University School of Architecture, Jon got his first architecture job building wood models and making presentation drawings at Harriman Associates. Jon stayed with Harriman after graduating, and began focusing on 3-D modeling and rendering while pro-ducing construction documents, and passing the LEED AP exam in 2003. After working on several academic, municipal and healthcare projects, Jon joined Cubellis in 2004, where he started working on corporate and retail projects as well. At Environetics, Jon continues to refine techniques for 3-D models, renderings, and BIM integration, while producing and managing complex drawing sets and completing LEED design and construction submissions.
Derek Smythe, LEED APArchitecture
Derek has over 20 years of architectural design and drafting experience. His experiencehas been diverse, including work on governmental, educational, commercial andinstitutional projects. Derek‘s responsibilities have included schematic design, design,development, and construction documentation. He also possesses special skills inconceptual design and renderings, and has experience with site surveys, code research,presentation drawings and computer modeling.

For Paula the most rewarding part of being an Interior Designer is watching the spaceyou have designed come to life. She knows she has done her job when a client comesback after “living” in their new space with excitement and positive comments on howthe space has changed the lives of the people working in it.

Since graduating from Michigan Tech as an electrical engineer, Jeff has had the pleasureto work in both the consulting field as well as manufacturing. The manufacturingexperience taught him to view solutions, not only from a dollars and cents issue, but alsoas an operational and maintenance view. This is a combination that so many designersdon’t take into account, because they never had to live with their own designs.
Jeff’s experience includes electrical power systems, lighting, and fire alarm designs inrefinery and heavy industrial facilities, aircraft manufacturing, pharmaceutical facilitiesincluding clean rooms and GMP facilities, hospitals, higher education, K-12, commercialbuildings, multi family residential and retail centers.
Michael Sidlo, P.E., LEED APPrincipal | MEP Engineering
Michael has more than 30 years of experience in providing mechanical design servicesfor commercial, residential, academic, pharmaceutical, industrial, and institutionalprojects. His experience includes the development of unique mechanical systems forpharmaceutical, micro-electronic and laboratory facilities that incorporate revised safetyand health codes with modern energy efficient standards. In addition, he has extensiveknowledge in the development of central utility plants, direct digital control systems,variable air volume/temperature systems, and state-of the-art building environmentalsystems, including under floor air distribution systems. Michael is accredited by LEED toperform ‘green’ building evaluations and designs. This defines him as a leader in energyefficient and sustainable designs.
Amy GallagherInterior Design
Amy is a Senior Interior Designer with over 25 years of experience in the development of interior architecture as well as FF&E work. Her approach to the integration of architectur-al finishes, lighting systems, and furnishings allows her to play an important role on the design and architectural team from the start of projects. She has worked with prominent architectural and interior design firms in San Francisco, New York and Philadelphia. Amy’s experience includes space planning, master planning, and design of corporate, healthcare and academic spaces. As an adjunct professor at Philadelphia University, she teaches inte-rior design studios and sustainability courses at both the introductory and advanced levels.
