COMPETITION FOCUS

INKUNZ'ISEMATHOLENI YOUTH IN BUSINESS COMPETITION Project Outline / Background

As KwaZulu-Natal's development agency, lthala has established a number of initiatives aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and providing skills development among the youth. One of its latest and most innovative projects is the lnkunzi'isematholeni Youth in Business Competition.

lthala's lnkunz'isematholeni Youth in Business Competition is an initiative which aims to drive innovative business thinking and a change of attitude among the youth to consider self-employment as a job option. In line with the government's agenda of encouraging and supporting the youth to come up with innovative ideas and the green economy strategies lthala has established partnership with the Technology Innovation Agency and lnvotek to provide the youth of KwaZulu Natal the with an opportunity to sustain themselves through entrepreneurship,

ITHALA'S VISION IS TO BE PIONEERS IN THE FOLLOWING,

Providing a platform for the youth to embark on a financed business ventures. Creating job and entrepreneurship opportunities against the backdrop of unemployment and poverty.

Grooming young entrepreneurs to assist with stimulating economic growth in the province.

lnkunz'isematholeni Youth in Business competition is scheduled to be lunched in February 2017.

TARGET:

The primary target market is youth of KZN They are aged between 18-35 and residing in both rural and urban areas of KZN. They are passionate about seeing themselves grow and are looking for a partner who will walk with them in ensuring the realization of their dreams. They are passionate about going out there to make things happen for themselves. They have ideas, but have no idea how to harness them. Those that do know how to do this, are frustrated by the fact that financial institutions are not willing to look at them since they do not have security for a loan. They are therefore looking for a partner who is willing to give them a break, by believing in the initiatives they are starting.

ENTRY CRITERIA:

For adjudication purposes, entrants must attach a profile containing the following information - this will be set out on the entry form: Business concept that will look to address entreprenuership gaps in their communities. The concept should be unique and Innovative ( 'Think Green') The concept must be cost effective

Therefore the entrant must provide a detailed concept document which will highlight and detailing how the business will work, the technology required and the projected cost implications involved.

PRE-CONDITIONS:

lthala insists on several critical pre-conditions. These include the fact that businesses financed and assisted with business support are:

At least 51% Black-owned; Are KwaZulu-Natal-based; Are viable and sustainable; and Employment creation is promoted.

Finalists must be available for interviews on their business ideas. This is an important element in the preliminary judging process.

EVALUATION PROCESS:

Following closing date, all entries will be verified and evaluated by independent judges selected by the Technology Innovation Agency. 5 finalists will be selected. Based on set judging criteria, the selected finalists entries will be evaluated by the Technology Innovation Agency.

GRAND PRIZE

The winner will be awarded the following service; Business Support to the value of up to R250, 000

Business Plan Development Aftercare programme offered by the Technology Innovation Agency Assistance Business Mentorship Financial Assistance

COMPETITION RULES AND REGULATIONS:

1. The competition shall be open for applications / entries from 25 April 2017 until 25 August 2017.

2. Entries will be acceptable both online and manual entry forms. Entry forms will be available at the following offices and websites for the duration the competition: lthala Technology Innovation Agency lnvotec Gagasi FM Independent Newspapers

3. For all manual entry forms to be legible they must have attached to each entry form a copy of the lnkunz'isematholeni competition advert which is available in The Mercury and lsolezwe newspapers

4. Entry is open to all South Africans who are residents in the KZN province and are between the age of 18 and 35 at the time of entry. The business concept must be for the economic benefit of the Province of KZN

5. Employees of lthala, TIA, Independent Newspaper, Gagasi FM and lnvotech or their family members or anyone else connected in any way with the competition or helping to set up the competition shall not be permitted to enter the competition.

6. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition.

7. The entrants must be willing to be interviewed.

8. The winner must be willing to be profiled by lthala's internal and external stakeholders and to be the lthala lnkunz' lsematholeni brand ambassador upon winning the competition.

9. By entering, each entrant agrees to take full responsibility for the content of the submission in their entry forms and he or she agrees to abide by these terms and conditions.

10. All entrants agree and accept to abide by the terms and conditions of this competition and reasonable instructions from the lthala Business Finance consultants and its competition partners

11. Entries that do not comply with these terms and conditions will be disqualified, as are entries that are illegible or incomplete or contain offensive, fraudulent or unlawful content.

12. The entrants are responsible for ensuring that they meet all these terms and conditions so that they are able to accept and receive the prizes. These shall include providing valid and up-to-date contact details and complying with all legal requirements relating to FICA documents.

13. All entrants hereby warrant that they are the original authors of their submissions and that same do not and will not infringe any third party's intellectual property and proprietary rights.

14. The winner shall produce proof of the documents mentioned in {11) above, when accepting the prize.

15. The judges' decision will be final and no further correspondence will be entered into thereafter.

16. The prize/s shall not be exchanged for cash.

17. All entries must be received on or before the closing date and any entries received thereafter will not be considered.
