The inauguration and Installation of the Entrepreneurship Development Cell: 2019-20 of

Hislop College was conducted on 21st August 2019 at 12:30 noon.

entrepreneur and stressed on the aims and objectives of the cell. She urged the student

members of ED cell to identify the pain areas in the community and think about solutions.

She said that the ED cell provides a platform for nurturing innovative ideas of students. The

implementable ideas can be shared with alumnus start-up owners.

Dr. Mayur Khedkar, the co-convener of the cell highlighted the programmes conducted by

the ED cell in the session 2018-19. He praised the last year’s winners of intercollegiate

events.

The installation function was followed by an interactive session which was conducted by the

mentors. Many students shared their ideas in the session with the teacher committee

members. The programme was attended by almost all the 140 members of ED Cell. The

interactive session was vibrant.

The convener, Dr. Mousumi Bhowal interacted with the students sharing her idea about

social entrepreneurship and explained it with an example. She told the students to be ready

with their innovative ideas with its description as a write up with name, contact number and

email id and submit these ideas to the teacher members of ED cell.

The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks by Ms. Rajshree Channe.

Title: The start-up fest 2K19

Report:

‘Innovation is seeing what everybody sees, and thinking what nobody has thought’.

This very idea was given a form by Municipal Corporation of Nagpur through ‘The start-up

fest 2K19’.

The motive of event was to bring together successful entrepreneurs and young innovative

minds under one roof. The EDC students of Hislop College were given an assignment to visit

the Start-up Fest to have a first-hand experience and exposure to entrepreneurship, its concept

and to listen to a wide range of deliberations. This was with the view of igniting the passion

towards entrepreneurship among the young minds. The executive members of the cell filed

the following report after visiting the programme.

The event commenced on a melodious note by ‘MH 31’ band that lifted up the spirits of the

enthusiastic audience with their soulful songs. The programme officially inaugurated at the

hands of Hon. Mr Nitin Gadkari and mayor of Nagpur Hon. Dr. Nanda Jichkar. This was

followed by a beautiful dance performance by artists on Ganesh Vandana.

Dr. Nanda Jichkar in her address motivated the youngsters to take up innovative ideas and

promised to even fund creative start-up ideas as she believes one should strive for knowledge

and not for success. She further emphasised that creative ideas of today, would become

successful business proposition in the very near future.

Mr. Sandeep Kulkarni, a popular face of Marathi cinema and Mr Bharat Ganeshpure another

popular face in Marathi industry graced the occasion. They encouraged the students to pursue

their passion as their profession. Mr Ganeshpure believed that most innovative ideas flourish

with what is called as ‘DESI JUGAAD’.

Mr. Gadkari in his address introduced himself as an innovator and an entrepreneur and

explained how these capacities shaped his personality eventually. He shared a number of

ideas which were taken up and were a great success. One such idea was to filter the sewage

water in order to make it potable and on selling it earned the municipal corporation of

Nagpur, a profit of around 180 crores. Another amazing idea was fish/fruit market waste in

production of bio CNG and utilizing it as a fuel. This is not only eco-friendly but also cost

effective. He encouraged the youth to keep thinking and implementing such out of box ideas.

This was followed by presentation by the students wherein they shared their start-up ideas

with everyone present. Multiple camera renting and photo booth, Consultancy regarding

property and construction, wheel chair with navigator for the visually impaired were some

interesting ideas that were discussed. Another element of the fest was the exhibition which

portrayed some artistic ideas. Some of them like the air turbine ventilator, porous rocks that

could be used as alternative for road construction, bamboo lightings and few other grabbed

everybody’s attention.

The event was a learning experience which not only gave a light of guidance to the students

but also an exposure to the working of the business world. The student members who

Title: My Story-Guest Lecture

The Entrepreneur Development Cell of Hislop College conducted a one-day workshop on the

theme-“My Story” on September 14, 2019 in the Seminar Hall of Hislop College. Three

sessions were organized in the workshop with the objective to inspire the students for Start-

Ups, to make the students aware about the qualities and traits for becoming an entrepreneur.

The guest speakers were Mr. Kuldeep Shiwankar, Director of Baron Integrated Services Pvt

Ltd, Ms. Sonal Bhrushundi, creative artist in painting on marbles, pebbles, fabric, ceramic

and jute; and Mr. Rushant Dhanwatey, Project Coordinator at Maharashtra Village Social

Transformation Foundation (MVSTF).

In the first part of the session-I , Hislop ED cell team of three students; Ms. Sneha Giradkar,

Ms. Nitu Yaduvanshi and Ms. Sneha Dhakite presented their Idea-‘Hislop Artistttaan’ for

preparing beautiful handmade articles for Diwali celebrations, namely hemp yarns, Diya’s

with decorative plates, and Kundan rangoli designer patches etc. The team in their

presentation show cased the prepared sample pieces of each, explained their preparatory

methods and urged the student members to join them in designing, creation wing, marketing

and sales wing for this project so that these articles in large quantity could be made before

Diwali. The experts lauded and appreciated the efforts of the ED cell team as according to

them such a project would be a hands on learning experience for gaining necessary skills of

entrepreneurship.

This presentation was followed by the first speech which was delivered by Mr. Rushant

Dhanwatey, an alumnus and former President of ED Cell of Hislop College. Rushant advised

the students to use the ED cell platform to acquire special skills for entrepreneurship like

team building, management skill, presentation skill, out of box thinking for presentation of

ideas etc. Rushant briefed the students about his organization- MVSTF and its work profile.

He explained how MVSTF organization is involved in developing villages in terms of basic

infrastructure. He further said that there is a scope for internships for ED cell students in this

organization and by joining such internships they will get an exposure of in terms of social

entrepreneurship. They will not only get a chance to come out with ideas but also get an

opportunity to execute them. He then briefed about his Tiger Research Conservation project

and suggested the ED students from Botany and Statistics should aim for internships in this

area and undertake surveys, observational studies and analysis.

In the interactive session, Rushant asked the audience to come up with their ideas. Three

students, Sagar Kariya, Supriya Singh and Shreyas Uppasani came forward to share their

ideas in the field of Swachha Abhiyan, Environmental Balance and Tree plantations

respectively. These three students requested the experts to comment and guide them on their

ideas. Both Rushant and Kuldeep Shiwankar guided them for taking up projects in these

areas.

The second session was conducted by the guest speaker Mr. Kuldeep Shiwankar. He inspired

the students with his story. He narrated all the difficulties that he faced in setting up his start

up and how he overcame the difficulties, learnt from his mistakes and made the start up a

success. He shared that in business customer is the boss. So, according to him passion, self

motivation, commitment, patience hard work are the important basic qualities needed for a

successful entrepreneur and also a dedicated team is the backbone to survive in any business.

According to him before starting any business, conduction of market research followed by

analysis is essential to gauge the need of users. Mr. Kuldeep Shiwankar shared that through

hard work and a series of such experiences his company is now an established brand name in

food services in the region. His lecture was followed by an interactive session and many

students shared their queries with the speaker.

The third session was conducted by versatile artist Ms. Sonal Bhrishundi. She brought many

beautifully painted big and small earthenware, pebble painted articles, marble painted paper

weights, fabric painted pieces, jute painted flower vases, wooden painted flower vases etc. In

her presentation, she stressed on innovation, originality and creative designing as important

aspects in any type of artistic work. She guided the students about the raw material, type of

paints used for this work. She further explained how to make durable articles by using

warmish paint before painting some articles like decorative diya. She further said that

creation of such unique articles can be developed as a good business with the help of social

media like face book, what’s app. Further she said that one can develop website and can offer

online purchasing or arrange exhibitions of articles,

Ms. Janhavi Jichkar compeered the programme. Mr. Sourabh Gupta the president of ED Cell

proposed formal vote of thanks. The ED cell teachers, Dr. Mousumi Bhowal, Convener, Dr.

M. V. Khedkar, Co-Convener, Dr. Jyoti Shiwalkar and Ms. Rajshree Channe along with the

executive committee of ED Cell worked hard to make the workshop a success. The workshop

Title: Intercollegiate Event‘JUGGAD’

Date: 21st September

Venue:VNIT Nagpur & EDC Hislop College

Report:

JUGAAD is a term often associated with entrepreneurs, is a flexible approach to problem-

solving that uses limited resource in an innovative way. To ignite this spirit, E-Cell organized

an event called “Jugaad” at Visvesvarya National Institute of Technology in association with

Hislop College on September 21, 2019. Where with limited resources, and excruciatingly

small time frame put together with their ‘Jugaadu’ skills the participants made huge profits.

Each team was given an initial base investment of 100 rupees. Teams had full freedom to

use this money whichever way they liked, to make maximum profit through legal means.

The event encouraged out of the box thinking through which participants earned profits,

which in fact had resulted in beautiful ideas and products.

RULES AND REGULATIONS:

1. Each team may have 3-5 members.

2. Once the offline registration process is completed, participants will get a unique ID.

3. The unique ID of the participants will lead them to an online portal/link to the form,

where they have to register themselves and they can now get the access to leader

board.

4. Each team has to enter expenditure and income after each transition, on the unique

link provided to them on the completion of registration.

5. Valid points will only be given for transactions that are entered on the provided link.

6. All the proofs, for example photos, videos have to be submitted to the mentor of

each group.

7. Each team have to compulsorily report by 5 pm to their respective members.

8. If time limit is exceeded, then it may lead to disqualification.

All the teams who reported to “World of Titan” registration desk between 12.00 pm

to 3.00pm gotRs. 150 Jugaad credits (non-redeemable) credited in their leader

board.

There were in total 12 teams from Hislop College. Each team were with their unique

and creative ideas. Some of the ideas were to sell sapling, play game ( like lucky 7,

pick and draw), magic trick, workshop and chats, selling water bottles, selling

“kachchachuda”, selling tang juice and taking psychological test and many more.

It was the ‘Jugaadu’ ability of the participants to produce awesome product out of

anything, where participants used their skills, resources, languages and a solid

understanding of time to make massive profit.

After 5 pm all the participants with their mentors reached Visvesvarya national

Institute of technology for prize distribution programme. The guest of the event was

the well-known, gastronomic journalist and food blogger Ms. SubhraPaul and also RJ

Ronaldo from 98.3 FM.

The first three winners were from VNIT College and the fourth winner was from

Hislop College.

“TeamJugaadu here” secured first position in HislopCollege with total money earned

was Rs. 2810/-.

Title: HISLOP ‘ARTISTTAAN’

Date: 9th October to 20th October

Venue: Hislop College

Report:

The student members of Entrepreneurship Development Cell of Hislop College undertook

one creative project ‘HISLOP ARTISTTAAN’of making beautiful articles for celebration of

Diwali and other Indian Festivals. Ms.SnehaGiradkar, Ms.NituYaduvanshi and

Ms.SnehaDhakitewere the leaders in this project and they had a creative team of almost 20

student members from the ED Cell, who were involved in the designing & creation of articles,

marketing and coordinating with the customers.

Project team of students met teachers, non teaching staff to show the sample articles

prepared by them. They also show cased a variety of designs which they could offer the

clients for each type of article with a price list.

The teaching staff of the college showed lot of interest in their project by placing orders for

the items they liked the most. Notably the prices of these articles were cheaper than the

market prices of such articles.

Customers who placed orders with this ED team,paid an amount in advance against the

receipt of advance issued by the team. This helped them in generating money for purchasing

the raw material needed for execution. The keeninterestshown by the staff members was a

great motivation for team ED.

ED cell through this project is promoting and providing hands on training to students in

developing entrepreneurship skills.
