Rovi Continuous Seeding Improvements

• In June, Rovi will be conducting a separate seeding effort to potentially register 45K previously omitted episodic records that were not eligible in previous rounds.

• In Q3, Rovi will also be reviewing the seeding tool to ensure all of the latest 2.0.2 benefits have been folded in.

• In Q3, will investigate how “relaxing requirements” for News programs (followed by other program types), might net more records for EIDR

• TRB will be the “Go-Daddy” for EIDR. • Individual one-off registrations are $32. Progressive discounts are

available for bulk, pre-paid registration packages. • Transactional (i.e. individual) registrations will be reviewed by TRB

personnel before submission to EIDR to help preserve data quality. • Friendly, intuitive interface

• GUI easily translated to additional languages. – UI fields, terminology, and help are all in the native language

• Accommodates language variants (such as US and UK English, or Castilian and Mexican Spanish) • Initial launch is English-only • Japanese and Spanish planned for 2014

– Will expand the reach and scope of EIDR registration. • A full, synchronous copy of the EIDR registry is maintained for

speed and feature integration. • A go-forward version history of each title will be maintained

Other Registration Bureau Services Title Matching, Cleansing, Integration

• TRB has developed a set of programs and APIs to: – Match two title lists against one another

• Fuzzy criteria – titles can be matched even when the actual title is substantially different (or attributes are missing, or partially incorrect) using additional metadata.

• Score-based approach. • By experience, about 20 – 25% of titles can be accurately matched

entirely automatically. • Fast, simple UI allows “edge cases” to be quickly and accurately reviewed

by hand, averaging 7 – 9 seconds per title. • Missing and incorrect metadata can be edited on the fly, before re-

integrating with the master list. • Data issues can be noted as encountered, for later correction.

• Two data specialists learning the EIDR XML toolset, data practices, etc. • To start, each has ~1200 UK films from the 1980s-1990s

• Continuing Mission: – Keep working through UK filmography by collection (Hitchcock, Bond,

Kubrick, Hammer Horror, etc.) and by decade – Use as impetus to improve BFI metadata as needed – Eventually, include link back to EIDR from BFI searches
