Guidance from Government
• A two page letter! Functional economic area, natural economic geography, multiple upper tier authorities
• Two departments involved CLG and BIS. Difference in priorities- how large a geography? 12 or 40!
• BCC ministerial meetings and detailed consultations - No 1 issue that BCC is being asked by Ministers to contribute to is “Economic Geography”
• The comprehensive spending review is likely to bring another layer of significant cuts. BIS – this may be October
• The Government has set Sept 6 for a deadline for outline proposals.

Feedback from Chamber Councils• They’re interested ! and looking for information and opportunities to engage.
• Points raised by members,
– Public-sector led. Need for greater business involvement
– cohesive approach capturing wider representation (Greater Thames Valley). A greater voice.
– call to action from members for TVCC to act as an intermediary or if necessary show leadership.
• The rebalancing agenda of Government is of real concern.
• We must mobilise our global brands as Thames Valley Champions.
• Business feels that the proposals must include a mechanism for them to influence and lobby barriers to growth

Thames Valley – Current Picture• Number of proposals in discussion with their own credible economic
priorities
• Businesses are supporting their current Local Enterprise Partnership proposal
• Business organisations CBI, TVCC, IOD view - no smaller than the Thames Valley should be submitted as a proposal.
• Recognition from other LEP proposals that one Thames Valley submission would be more effective
• Stakeholders around the region, parts of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Swindon are still in conversation with each other.
• Given the timescale we now must find a way to support and work with each other.
