Dear Students and Families of Calgary Kyokushin Karate, Welcome to the 2016/2017 training season. We've had a great summer of rest and relaxation and now it's time to get back to the dojo for another exciting and challenging year of karate, community, and friendship. For those of you who are new to Calgary Kyokushin Karate, this newsletter will be issued every month, and will provide you with details about upcoming events, important dates, announcements and other important news in our club. Some of this year's highlights will include our annual Christmas party and talent show, the 2017 Calgary Cup Championships, our annual spring camp, various day-clinics, multiple local and international tournaments, and of course our year-end wrap party. Starting on the 13th of September we will begin sizing again for your new dogi (training uniform) and sparring equipment. Once you decide to order it usually takes about two weeks to receive the equipment. For those who require replacement gear please let us know so we can get it ordered for you. Please make note that our Saturday classes will commence on September 17th this year. This is to allow for the McKenzie Lake Community center to run its annual AGM. This class will be made up later in the season. Throughout September we will be spending time focusing on refreshing our skills and fostering the Sempai/Kohai relationship, where our experienced students and senior students help new and younger students feel more comfortable in the dojo. In October, you will be hearing more about several other events including our very own 14th annual Friendship Tournament (the first tournament of the year designed for beginners). Stay tuned for more details! Welcome to all of our friends, new and old, and a GREAT BIG thank you for your continued support. It's going to be a great year! Yours truly, Brad Gillespie, Chief Instructor
