The City owns Calgary’s approximately 90,000 streetlights and ENMAX Power Services is contracted to maintain and repair them. Streetlight outages are communicated through The City’s 3-1-1 service phone line. In 2013, ENMAX Power Services’ operational practices and improved efficiency of streetlight response and repair resulted in less than one per cent of Calgary’s streetlights being out of service. As such, we exceeded the performance standards for streetlight outages set by The City.

In 2006, The City and ENMAX Energy Corporation formed the Energy Management Office (EMO) to help The City meet or exceed energy conservation and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions targets. The EMO purchases electricity and natural gas for City operations and facilitates energy conservation projects, alternative energy use and energy audits. For example, through the EMO, solar technology has been installed at several fire stations and the Southland Leisure Centre.
