Dear Parents, Staff and Children,
Regional Cross Country
Well done to Angel Vujasinovic who competed in the Regional Cross Country Finals on
Wednesday. With around 60 competitors in his 11 year old event, Angel is not exactly sure
where he placed, but it was in the top 25. Congratulations Angel on this excellent achievement.

learning. If you haven’t already done so, please log in to Compass to book an appointment time.

Wednesday 28th June.
Year 5 /6 Camp
Please see inside this newsletter for a sneak peek at all the action during our Year 5 /6 Camp.
I had the privilege of staying overnight on Wednesday. I cannot speak more highly of our
students and the manner in which they conducted themselves. Exposed to many new
experiences, the children participated enthusiastically, taking risks and challenging themselves
to have a go. Thankyou to our staff, Mandy Langman, Sharon Moore, Daniel Gregory, Ben
Payton and Melissa Baba for their hard work in preparation for and during the camp. It is an
enormous responsibility and their commitment to providing our students with this wonderful
opportunity is to be commended. A huge thankyou also to our parent helpers; David Vaughan,
Steven Lee, Paul Spencer and Robyn O’Donovan. Without the support of parents, we wouldn’t
be able to offer these programs. Their wonderful contributions to the supervision and care of
the students is greatly appreciated.
We look forward to hearing more about the camp in our first newsletter next term.
Welcome to Complete Kids
We are looking forward to our new partnership with Complete Kids as our Out of School Hours
Care provider. The company comes highly recommended and we are optimistic that our
children will enjoy a quality program. We are happy to announce also that Heidi Lens, our
current OSHClub Coordinator has been offered a position with the company to ensure
continuity of care.

FOSW NEWS
School Council Report-Term 2 This term has seen School Council begin work on a number of projects which are briefly outlined below:
Education sub-committee
Has commenced a review of the SWPS Code of Conduct and are in the early developmental stages to create a new community code of conduct. This will most likely roll out later this year. In addition, we will also be reviewing the SWPS student engagement and wellbeing policies along-side the SWPS Values. We would greatly appreciate parental input into this process so please monitor the school newsletter for further information.
Environmental sub-committee
Has commenced the Artists walk which will involve all classes designing a painting to be put onto their panel in the artists walk just outside the Art Room windows. There are also plans to have Welcome tree in the Grade 1/2 covered play area and to extend the Friendship Garden.
Thank you to the Grade 6 students who assisted with the 2018 Prep Information sessions. Lastly many thanks to our wonderful FOSW team, led by Kristie Hermelin and Briony Van Berlo, for putting together the fantastic Mothers Day Stall and Mothers Day Breakfast in May. The FOSW team work very hard to provide the best for SWPS students and we very lucky to have them.
If you are interested in assisting the FOSW team this year or knowing more about the work School Council is doing then please contact the School office.
Congratulations to all students for their achievements this term and I hope everyone has a good break over the holidays.
Regards
James King

News from the 1/2’s
Our 1/2’s have been working extremely hard over the last term to learn all different dances during our 1/2 sport time.
The favourite was the ‘Cha Cha Slide’ and the kids were energetic, happy and smiling every time Mrs Taylor popped it on the speaker.
We decided a flash mob at assembly would be a great way to showcase our achievements and just how funky we are!
Thank you to all the parents who came along today to watch their little superstars in action.
Stay tuned for another dance session soon.

Bookings for interviews are still open.
Winter Sport
On Friday the 9th of June all the grade 5/6s went down to Boardman
Reserve to participate in winter sports. Ella and I played netball and we were
in the all girls team.
The first game we played was against Kismet, the girls played amazing and
we won.
The second game was against Sunbury Heights, we played awesome again
and won that game too.
The third game was against Killara, this was the toughest game but we still dominated and won.
The fourth game we played was against St Anne's, we played a great game and won again.
The fifth game was against Sunbury Primary this was also a tough game but we played our hardest
and won.
The sixth game was against OLMC we smashed it and won again.
The seventh game was against Diggers Rest, we played exceptionally well and won again.
Our last game was against Goonawarra, everyone was nervous but we still put our best effort in and
won!
After our games we found out that we won the Small Schools competition and we’re going on to the
next level of zone because we were undefeated.
We would like to say a big thank you to all the parents for supporting us through the day and to Mrs
Davies for umpiring and helping us out. Thank you to Mr Payton for organizing this special day and
making it happen and to all the netballers for putting a big effort into every game and playing amazing
and lastly a massive thank you to Ms Moore for coaching us and supporting us through the day and
helping us practice to get this far.

On Friday the 9th of June the 5/6s went down to the soccer pitch at Boardman Reserve. Overall we
played eight matches and they each went for ten minutes. The Captains were Erik and I (Eddy) and
personally I think that the whole team played really well, and they tried their best even though we
didn't score a goal. I'm still happy about our effort and our defence because we only lost by one goal.
We drew five matches and lost three which is a great result for our team. I'd like to
give a big thanks to Mrs Langman for organising the day and training our team.

Sunbury West at the Sunbury
College Film Festival
The grade 5/6 students got an opportunity to make a short film to show
at Reading Cinemas Sunbury for the Sunbury College Film Festival. For
those who wanted to make a film they had to make a storyboard as their
plan. A couple days after we were told about this the two media studies
teachers (Ms.Abbott & Ms.Tweedie) and a couple of students came to
our school. They were provided with a group to help make our movies.
To qualify for the competition we had to airdrop our films to Ms.Tweedie
so she could see who they wanted as the finalists. We soon found out if
we were a finalist or not. Luckily enough, mine and Bianca’s film got to
be a finalist. On the 30th of May most of the people who got to be
shown on the big screen at Reading Cinemas (including the people who
didn't get to be a finalist) were there. We watched all the films including
the Sunbury College films. There were three judges. One of them had
helped make Iron Man2.They had lots of donuts there and drinks.
The winners were:
Holly Falzon, Cam Hildebrand, Indya Hildebrand, Tyler Baba and Tianna Atwell The Famous Three Best Film & Audience Favourite
Bianca Muleta and Maddison Jolly
Academy
Best Technical Skills
Jake Conduit, Hayden Wright and Branden Jorgensen
The Blue Umbrella Best Story
Thanks to Ms Moore Mr Gregory and Mrs Langman for coming along on the night. It was a fantastic experience!
