Hong Kong Museum of History (Primary Five)“When I was young, I listened to the radio…” This is a very famous oldie from the 70s. People often say that the old days were good. How can we travel in time? Yet Primary Five students and the English teachers can! With the information in the textbook, the exhibits and the historical scenes in the Hong Kong Museum of History, Primary Five students entered the time tunnel and lived the life of civilians living in Hong Kong a hundred years ago. What the students finally learned was that we should cherish everything in our lives.

Outdoor VisitsPolice Museum (Primary Four)Have you ever imagined that you would get involved in investigating a crime? Primary Four students did! To help the police, just as they did in their English lessons, the students visited the Police Museum. Crime investigation needs traces and evidence. In the museum, they learned more about the local Triad societies, drug taking and trafficking problems. Through the transformation of the Hong Kong Police Force over the years, our students have been given a clearer picture of the history of Hong Kong.

Students’ Work from the Writ ing Contest

My Sports Idol

Wong Hoi Lam Lilian 6AInspired by the word ‘sports idol’, the first athlete who popped into my mind was the Chinese gymnast bright

star – Cheng Fei.Before she succeeded to be the champion of 2006 World Artistic Gymnastics, she was just an ordinary child

born in Huangshi, Hubei Province in 1988. At the age of 17, she was sent to Wuhan to join the Wuhan Institute of Physical Education without her consent – poor girl! However, if it was not her parents who made this firm decision, she wouldn’t have attained these achievement today. Luckily, this little girl was conscientious enough to tolerate all the pain and suffering despite the hardships. This was only the beginning on her road to success.

In the 2005 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, she performed the most difficult vaults ever performed perfectly. All the audience were amazed by Cheng Fei who was viewed to be a small potato. Up to now, she is still the only gymnast who had the courage to challenge this vault. She became extremely famous and this vault was named after her – ‘The Cheng’.

In the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, everyone placed great expectations on Cheng Fei’s shoulders, hoping that she would perform ‘The Chen’. Unfortunately, she disappointed the spectators and failed to do the vault. The worst thing was she even fell from the balance beam in the team contest. Everyone thought she wouldn’t give a good show in the individual balance beam contest after her failure. However, she showed all of us that she was highly professional when she nailed the landing perfectly and her confident face and sweet smile appeared again. People in the gymnasium were positively affected by this. She was a tough girl – very determined.

Though I am not good at sports, I am totally inspired by how my sports idol faced up to her difficulties strongly. There’s one thing that the whole world agreed on – her burning desire and sportsmanship are stronger than anyone else’s because not many people can recover immediately from their failure and prove that they are the best. From now on, I will learn from this shining gymnast and solve any problems positively. I will try my best to overcome all difficulties and challenges so that I can also become a successful person like her in the future.

Save the Earth

Hui Yuen Chit Ryan 5AI’m not telling you who I am, but I am very angry and sad. You human beings are irresponsible, I gave you the

job of taking care of me but you polluted the air, the land and the water as well! How am I going to trust you to be my caretaker?

The most serious pollution is the air pollution. The smoke from the factories and incinerators are killing me. I don’t know why you like to smoke, I am now coughing and sneezing all day long! Take more public transport, will you? I am sick because of the exhaust fumes from the private cars and other vehicles. If you stop driving private cars, you will reduce a lot of smoke every day.

The other serious problem is the land pollution. There is numerous rubbish every day. So, use towels and napkins instead of tissue paper, don’t throw rubbish on my skin, and make me dirty, write on both sides of paper and use recycled paper. Doing this will cause less land pollution.

My Favourite Cartoon Character

Li Lok Yin 3AMy favourite cartoon character is Lightning

McQueen. He is the fastest car in town. I can see Lightning McQueen in the cartoon called Lightning McQueen. He has a red body and the thickest tyres. He likes racing and chatting. Lightning McQueen is handsome, funny, helpful and friendly, so he has a lot of friends. At the end of the race, although he didn’t win, he saved the other cars and won a lot of claps and cheers. I think he is brave too. I like him because he taught me to help others in need. I like Lightning McQueen best!

A Talented Person

So Lok Yee 4AAlbert Einstein was a famous physicist. He was

born on March 14, 1879. He was born in Ulm, Germany. His parents were Jewish.

Although Albert Einstein’s rate of growth was slow, he didn’t give up. With his perseverance and determination, he published the paper on relativity and became the most famous physicist in the world. This paper made many people surprised.

I chose him because I thought he was smart and his perseverance and determination teach us never to give up.

I hope that I can be as successful as him one day.

To Wang Chi 1CI study with my parents on Sunday.I go to school on Monday.I have a mathematics lesson on Tuesday.I have a piano lesson on Wednesday.

Chun On Ching 2DThis was me when I was four years old. I was

at McDonald’s. I was having a party with my nursery school classmates. My friend, Angie was five years old. Angie, Tak Wan and I played some games. I felt very happy.

English Room Activit iesLet’s say a chant at the very beginning.

Fun to say,Fun to play,English Room is a place for you to stay;Movies to watch,Time to catch,Never miss the chance to join us all!

Over the past few months, the NET teachers and the English teachers have prepared various fun games in the English Room. The English Ambassadors have also contributed a lot to make all the activities run smoothly. Do you want to hear from them?

Lam Ho Man Herman 6A

During the year, the English Room has held various activities. And I was so honoured to become a helper of the English Room. Having lots of activities the whole year round, I was particularly fond of the theme “Community Helper”. Let me introduce it to you.

The first activity was the English Language Day. Lots of interesting questions were put to the students by the English Ambassadors. The students really enjoyed answering those interesting questions and they were very glad to get lots of small certificates.

After that, we had a game in the English Room on Wednesday. It was a matching game. Students needed to match the words or the pictures with the correct occupations. The words were very funny, like “DR. Sellers” etc. They relished it very much.

Finally, on Thursday, we watched a video about the careers that we have in our society in Hong Kong. The students were very excited about it. They sang along and even danced during it.

Having such a fun week, I realised lots of people are working for us in the community. We should learn to respect everybody in every job. Also, we should have a vocation to help in the community in the coming future.

Yu Long Ting Crystal 5A

KTS has organized various English activities since September. Some of them were about fairy tales. For the morning promotion, it was about a fairy tale. Everyone burst into laughter when Cindersellers and Siu Prince Charming came in. Students came to the English Room to participate in various activities. There were riddles to solve and puzzles to do. English Ambassadors asked students questions about their favourite fairy tale character. Everyone had a great time.

From the theme ‘Fairy Tales’, we can learn about different fairy tale characters such as Cinderrella, Sleeping Beauty and Ugly Little Duckling. We can learn the morals of different fairy tales as well. I think ‘Fairy Tales’ is the most interesting theme.

Liu Ka Ying Eunice 5B

I am indeed fortunate to have been chosen as an English Ambassador this year. It is really a great challenge for me. Apart from helping my fellow schoolmates, I have benefited a lot from this programme.

Being an English Ambassador, I help in a variety of activities. For example, English Radio Fun Programmes, film shows, language games and interviewing fellow schoolmates. These activities enable me to practise my spoken English and thus boost my confidence in speaking English.

Despite my busy schedule, I hope that I can be an English Ambassador again in the coming school year taking into account the benefits it brings.
