C OVER STORY Treasure of Golden Mountains Exhibition of Shuijinjiou Geoheritage Venue Jinshuei Special Exhibition Hall, Gold Refining Building Date 03/08-09/29 T he epithermal deposits of Jinguashi, Jiufen and Wudan Mountain region contain the richest mineral resources in Taiwan. The diversity of minerals deposited there makes the area one of the best outdoor classroom for Taiwanese geological science. The Gold Museum organizes the program for the specific purpose of bringing knowledge and understanding of the historic landscape detailing Taiwanese gold and copper mining industry, and the island’s rich natural resource, to the people. The show, apart from introducing the geological structure of the Shuijinjiu area, also showcases the unique and precious mineral resources of the region. The program also includes scientific studies and the relationship between goldmining and humanistic development, and how the correlation became the foundational “root” for the past development of this mountainous mining town. This is a mineral exhibition not to be missed, as it will include many rare specimens in the collection. As part of the exhibition are four education programs, which will guide the participants through a series of fieldwork and hands-on activities, and to further unveil the secrets of the underground golden palace. Out of respect for one of the best- preserved historic monuments in Taiwan, dedicated volunteers of the Lin Family Mansion and Garden are committed to regaling visitors with lovingly curated tours, and bringing the past of the garden to modern times. The Mansion section is open to the public everyday expect Monday, and the Garden opens daily except pre-designated close days. Four tours are available per day, with an extra one on national holiday. Interested visitors are encouraged to book the tour by sending the booking form to “linfamily001@gmail. com,” this is a feast for the aficionados of traditional architecture. Children’s Day is around the co rne r, and New

Taipei City Gold Museum will unveil a series of “Kids’ Play in a Stony Age” program to celebrate! On the activity calendar are: “Adventure of Gold Legend” activities from 30 March to 7 April; by the end of which you would be able to get a gift by collecting stamps. The celebrated Taiwanese

drummer group “U-Theatre” will dazzle you with their performance. And, from 4 to 7 April, fundraising charity market will also take place in the Museum.

Originated from China, tea is now a global drink after its spread

from the east to the west. Different countries and societies created and practiced their own unique tea rituals. Pinglin Tea Museum has organized this world tea culture exhibition. Titled “Teagether ,” this exhibition provides a window to the fascinating tea cultural practices around the world, and an opportunity to experience the tea drinking methods of the Tibetan

and Mongolian regions, along with Japanese, Russian, Turkish, Iranian and the Arctic . Exotic teahouses are built in real size in this exhibition, with entertaining interactive facilities and multicultural costumes for experiencing. What a fun tea carnival! Definitely you don’t want to miss!

“#4C” is organized by three Japanese

and one Taiwanese female artists, showcasing their paintings and installation artworks. These four artists include Arika Narikiyo, a grad ua te of t he Tok yo University of the Arts Graduate School; Yuriko Yamauchi, Lu Chen, who studies in Japan, and Yuriko Ishizaki of the

Kanazawa College of Art Graduate School. The letter C of the name “4C” derives from the four-leaf clover, which represents the convergence of the four budding artists, and their commitment in the promotion of arts. In October 2018, the quartet held their first “#4C” exhibition in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. By means of their second exhibition, the artists are looking forward to engaging the Taiwanese community in an aesthetic lexicon.

The face of a friend – Taiwanese indigenous Mask Feature Exhibition

Shihsanhang’s anthropomorphic pottery is poised to host a gathering of friendly faces.

Be it a shy, humble countenance, an honest or smiling visage, or something made of ceramics or wood, faces of various types are coming together to tell their stories. Facial masks and figureheads of various types and styles occupy an important place in the Taiwanese archeological discoveries, and of the history and cultural meaning of Taiwanese indigenous societies. We are inviting you to check out the Shihsanhang Museum and meet face-to-face with the faces.

2018 Hakka Workshop Presentation

In 2018, New Taipei City Hakka Museum unveiled its “Hao Ke” community workshops,

r a n g i n g f r o m H a k k a F l o w e r- k n o t t i n g (introductory, intermediate and creativity classes), blue-dye (beginner and creativity classes), and leather-carving. The flower-knot workshops covers basic traditional techniques to wedding decorations. The dye classes covered techniques that allow for presentation of creativity, including type dyeing, garment dyeing, tie dyeing, and gradient dyeing. Leather carving workshops taught participants to work with elements such as tung blossom, dragon, loom, Taiwan, peony, blue dye shirt and ao turtles. The presentation would mesmerize you with the beauty of traditional Hakka handcraft.
