"The fanaticisms that we must fear the most are those that can be confused with tolerance." Fernando Arrabal Date: Monday, May 25th 2020 Main aim: The students will be able to report something that they were told or they listened to. Grammar: Reported speech (session 1) Resources: Notebook. Structure: Direct speech Indirect speech

I. Present simple: “I eat an apple “He says = Past simple : He said he ate an apple

(😊 + verb) (😊 + said + 😊 + past simple) II. Past simple: “I ate an apple “He says = Past perfect: He said he had eaten an apple

(😊 + past simple) (😊 + said + 😊 + had + past participle) III. Present continuous: : “I am eating an apple “He says = Past continuous: He said he was eating an apple

I. Open your notebook and write the explanation of the topic of today. Reported speech is when we tell someone what another person said. To do this, we can use direct speech or indirect speech. Example: Direct speech: 'I work in a bank,' Daniel says. Indirect speech: Daniel said he worked in a bank. Direct speech: 'I worked in a bank,' Daniel says. Indirect speech: Daniel said he had worked in a bank. In indirect speech, we often use a tense which is in the past (e.g. worked) than the tense originally used (e.g. work). This is called 'backshift'. We also may need to change other words that were used, for example pronouns.

II. Watch the following videos to understand better how to use the reported speech, click on the following links. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcxytsa8CbI

III. Report the following sentences. (Remember to find out what the tense is) 1. “I am hungry” he says 2. “I went to the park” he says 3. “I am drinking juice” he says

4. “I have eaten” he says

5. “I do my homework” he says 6. “I saw a crime” he says 7. “I am reading a book” he says 8. “I have taken a shower” he says

IV. When finishing remembers to send a picture of what you did and remember to make the corrections if it is necessary. Illustrate with drawings or pictures and send the picture to this email account ([email protected]
