Vivien Leigh, Lady Olivier (5 November 1913 – 8 July 1967), was an English actress. She won two Academy Awards. She was a magnificient stage performer. During her thirty-year stage career, she played a great amount of different roles.Affected by bipolar disorder for most of her adult life, she gained a reputation for being a difficult person to work with, and her career went through periods of decline. She was further weakened by recurrent bouts of chronic tuberculosis, with which she was first diagnosed in the mid-1940s. She and Olivier divorced in 1960, and Leigh worked hard in film and theatre until her death from tuberculosis, in 1967.

She was born in Darjeeling, India to a wealthy British stock broker and an Irish mother. Vivien spent the first 6 years of her life being pampered. At the age of 6 she was shipped to convent school in Roehampton, a section of London. She made many friends there. She took up hobbies such as ballet and cello. Vivien was later voted prettiest girl in school by her fellow classmates.

In late 1931, she met Herbert Leigh Holman, known as Leigh. They were married on 20 December 1932 (so her stage name appeared). And in 1933 Vivien gave birth to her only child Suzanne

In 1936 the two actors were paired together for the first time in “Fire over England”. Though both were married to other people, they soon became lovers off-screen as well. Although their love was strong and passionate, it ended with a set of Viviens nervous breakdowns. So, Laurence left her face-to-face with her own problems.
