Private day care

In private day care you will get together with another family in a joint childminding arrangement. You can choose an option where you look after your own and the other family's child in your own home. Alternatively, you can choose an option where it is the other mother or father who looks after her or his own child as well as your child in their home.

It is also possible for two parents to share the childminding arrangement and take turns to look after the children. Each parent has to take care of the children for minimum two days a week.

You can also become a private childminder for your own twins or for your own two children if they are between 6 months and 3 years of age.

Private day care

Private day care is a peaceful arrangement. The two children are closely connected to the private childminder and the days are calm and quiet. The risk of infection is small because only two children are being looked after together.

The private childminder can organize the days on the children's terms and has every chance of creating a cosy and quiet day - with two happy and satisfied children.

Private day care is more than closeness and security - it is also food and meal policy as well as learning. Through playing, watching and through being together with committed adults the children learn. The educational supervision is the guarantor

for the quality of the private childminding home and is responsible for following up on the quality by supporting, advising and inspiring.

During the first month, the private childminder will be visited by a child minding supervisor who will provide advice and guidance on various subjects, including the development of and food for the children. Later the private childminder will be visited by the day care supervisor every second month where the development and growth of the children is the natural core issue.

The families of both children are of course welcome to participate in these visits.

As good as home

"It has been a good start for Carmen slowly getting introduced being with other children and at the same time being at home with me" says Anders who has chosen to become a private childminder for his own child and for Ella who lives close by.

Anders has taken care of Carmen together with Eline before Ella started. Ella has been in the arrangement with Anders and Carmen for three month until now.

Anders' family is also very happy with the arrangement especially Carmens brothers; Thomas who is 11 years old and Simon who is 8 years old. They enjoy coming home from school to play with the two little girls until their mother comes home and Ella is being picked up to go home again.

In the everyday the days are being structured after the childrens need for food and rest. In the start of the day I have planned an activity. "We go to a playground, in the zoo, in the playroom where there is rhythmics or outside in nature. I also sing with the girls and listen to music. I always try to capture the childrens own initiatives to make their day safe and full of care".

The educational supervision is really good, Anders thinks. Runa who comes here every second months has a lot of experience with children that I do not have. For instance when the other child enters the arrangement she was able to give me some advice about some of the issues that I was uncertain about. "It has been very nice".

Contractual Matters

A private childminder will makes an individual contract with the day care centre who will evaluate the private childminder's experience with children, his/her mental resources, the physical surroundings and the safety of the home. The children must always be looked after in the home of the childminder. You can begin work as a private childminder on the 1st or 15th day of a month.

Smoking is not allowed in the private home of the registered day-care provider during the family day-care's opening hours. In the event of smoking after opening hours, the day-care provider must undertake to ensure thorough airing. Such rooms that are essentially furnished as playrooms must be kept free of smoke, round-the-clock. Similarly, smoking is strictly forbidden in the day-care centre's shared playrooms.

The language qualifications of the private childminder must allow for the childminder to receive advice and guidance in Danish or English in a mutual dialogue.

For all persons above 15 years of age in the household, the day care centre will ask for criminal records.

The private childminder will receive a monthly salary of DKK 14.642 which is payable in arrear at the end of the month.

Based on the Day Care Centre's food and meal policy, the private childminder undertakes to serve food that is 90% organic, at meals and between meals. Hence, 58 % of the pay is tax-deductible.

Holidays are earned according to the Danish Holiday Act, according to which you will earn the right to take 5 weeks of holiday.

The private childminder is entitled to 3 consecutive weeks of holiday, during the period between 1 May and 30 September. The remaining holiday may be held during the period between 1 October and 30 April. Neither replacement day care nor a substitute private childminder are options during the holiday of the private childminder.

A full time contract means a work week of 48 hours. The working hours will be planned together with the other family to lie between 6.30 am and 5.15 pm.

By way of compensation for overtime, the private childminder accrues a half day off every month. Such compensation cannot be transferred into money. When to take compensation days off and holiday will be a matter for decision between the two families.

In the course of the year, there are certain permanently established closing days for

the day care:• The days before Easter• The day after Ascension Day• The days betweenChristmas and New Year.

With respect to sick children, the Day Care Centre adheres to the principal rules, as set out by the Danish Health and Medicines Authority, stipulating that sick children shall not be accepted into the family day care – primarily to avoid a child infecting the other child(ren) or the private childminder.

The day care centre's educational supervisory authority organises shared playroom events at various locations round the city, in which the private childminder can participate. Here, the children meet other children and get an opportunity to develop both social and motor skills. At the same time, this is also an opportunity for the private childminder to exchange experience.

Holiday and Illness

The private childminder can take the children on tours and visit playgrounds in the neighbourhood. The private childminders are organised in local groups. This will allow them to build up a network with each other in the playgroup while giving the children an environment of learning which will strengthen their competences.

Activities in the local environment may consist in for instance rhythmic, picnics, theatre, music and games involving the senses. In addition, all private childminders will have the opportunity of borrowing a Zoo-entry card. The day care supervisor will tell you about the various possibilities during the first visit.

The day care centre will supply: nappies, beds, duvets, bedding, twin pram, high chairs, reins and harnesses, insect net, basket and lock prior to the commencement of the arrangement.

Before your child can start in private daycare, you must enter it into the waiting list for one or two other day care options. When it is accepted for private day care, it can remain on the waiting list for the other options.

Your child will be offered a place in accordance with its number on the waiting list. The exact time of receiving a day care offer will depend on whether you would like a place before the age of kindergarden and which kindergartens or day care options you have chosen.

Waiting list

Private day care terminates if one of the children receives an offer for a place in one of the other day care options. In that case, this must take place by giving 14 days' written notice to the day care centre. The other child will remain on the waiting list. If one of you wants to terminate the arrangement, this must also take place by

giving 14 days' written notice. Your private day care arrangement will also terminate:- If the private childminder isill for more than 14 days.- If the private childminderleaves the City ofCopenhagen.- If one of the children is twoyears and ten months or isoffered a place kindergarten.

Private day care terminates

Both children must be signed up for private day care, which in 2018 costs DKK 3.254 a month. This equals the price for a place in a nursery or municipal day care. The price is adjusted every year and

reduced in case of siblings and/or an earnings related free place. In private day care, the full rate is paid during the private childminder's holidays, days off or illness.

Who should I contact?

You yourself must get together with another family for private day care. You may be able to find a family in your group for new mothers or through the electronic notice board at www.kk.dk/opslagstavle

If you would like to start private day care with another family, you should send your application to the day care centre (see the address on the last page of this brochure).

Generally, you must allow for up to three weeks for the application to be considered. In some cases, the procuring of criminal records may extend the administration time to approx 5 weeks.
