What examples of language can you find the poem ‘River Runs Free’. Fill in, or draw out the table (on

the next page), with examples of the language features below:

Similes – compares one thing with another using ‘like’ or ‘as’ eg. River runs free like the wind and

birds

Repetition – repeating the same word or phrase to emphasis it

Adverbs – describe the verb

Adjectives – describes the noun

Personification – To give a human characteristic to something that is not alive to help with the de-

scription of what it is like. Eg, The clouds danced in the breeze.

Rhythm – the beat and pace of the poem. The pattern of the words

Rhyme – repetition of sounds at the end of the line
