    NMITs English Language Programme

overseas, for its quality academic programmes. The Programme is an official examination

centre for the University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate, as well as an IELTS testing

outpost for Victoria University. As a student at the English Language Programme, you will havemany opportunities to mix with New Zealand students and use our extensive facilities.

    Foundation Studies Philosophy

The English Language Programme aims to identify and respond to the learning needs of

individual learners. English is taught in a communicative way, giving you the opportunity to

practise and apply your learning in a safe and challenging learning environment. We encourage

you to be an active learner, to take language risks, and to take advantage of all opportunities to

use the English you have learned.

Our programmes recognise the knowledge and experience that you already have, and build on

this to maximise your learning. Study English at NMIT, New Zealand at our English LanguageProgramme and you will get a valuable and unforgettable educational experience.

Our graduates will be able to participate more fully in employment, education and society

through English language competency, literacy skills and cultural awareness.

The aims of the programme are as follows:

To improve English Language skills in reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabularyand pronunciation

To develop literacy, cultural awareness and independent study skills To guide and support learners in their learner journey To provide a clear pathway for students from various markets to transition from

foundation language courses offered in the English Language Programmes to higher

    education or employment

To tailor programmes to suit learners needs and fit their future desired pathway intothe training or career of their choice

    Graduate Profile

    Ai Mukrami Japan

Ai came to New Zealand after she finished High School in Japan and it was

her first time away from home. She studied English at the NMIT English

Language Programme and achieved her IELTS 6 in only one year.

The classes were small and my teacher helped me a lot. He made lessons so

easy to learn, because he organised lots of games and activities to learn new

vocabulary. We had so much fun! Ai enjoyed her stay in Nelson right from

the beginning. She always felt quite at home due to the nice people and

the beautiful weather in Nelson. I still keep in touch with many of my

    classmates even after two years.

Now Ai is studying International Business at Victoria University. She misses Nelson so much, that

    she comes back for holidays.
