Teacher Day
19th October
Year 6 Assembly
After weeks of warmth and sunshine we have seen a big change this week. Autumn has arrived and the temperatures have fallen. This fall in temperature has been accompanied by rain and we would ask all parents to ensure that the students come to school with appropriate wet weather gear so they arrive dry and warm.
This week Mr David Pottinger, the CEO of Orbital, visited the three Moscow campuses to see the progress being made at EIS. On Tues-day whilst at the East campus he was able to attend the parents meeting and he spoke briefly about the Orbital brand and the ex-citing future that Orbital have with plans for more schools worldwide all the while expanding their current schools. Mr Pottinger was keen to point out that EIS is a part of a multinational expanding organiza-tion with a strong future.
This meeting gave parents the opportunity to meet teachers and was another chance to discuss the new timetable and extensive activities programme here at EIS East. The activities programme is proving to be popular and will soon be enhanced with the Duke of Edinburgh International Award for our Year 9 and above.
Our first educational school trips are planned. Years 4 & 6 will be spending a day at the zoo as part of their curriculum topics whilst a group of secondary students will be visiting the Darwin Museum.
We also hope to launch Orbital wide school trips soon so please do follow the news here in our weekly newsletter as well as via Face-book, our website and your emails.
Nursery and Reception
Year 1 and 2
This week Nursery and Reception children learned the letter I and got very excited about lis-
tening to a story about Inky the Mouse that spilled the black ink and turned from white to
grey. They made their own Inky pictures and talked about body parts. They made Inky hats,
wearing them happily during their morning snack time. They practised colours and
shapes, sequenced teddy bears and built with wooden shapes. They enjoyed Music with Ms
Oxana and Russian with Ms Nastya.
Year 1 and 2 have had a lovely week and been very busy completing
different activities. In Maths, they have been revising their adding
and subtracting skills and used number lines and squares to help
them. In English, the children have been planning their own story
based on 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea' by changing different parts of
the story. They've also been building Lego bridges in Science to test
different materials. Next week, they will be learning about 2D shapes
in Maths, joining simple sentences in English and focusing on the
properties of materials.
Year 4
Year 5
This week in Mathematics students revised converting 12-hour clock times to 24-hour clock
times; learnt to find a time a given number of minutes or hours and minutes later; calculat-
ed time intervals using 24-hour clock format; measured lengths in mm and convert to cm;
found perimeters in cm and convert cm to m. In English students began a new unit this week
in poetry. They began by searching throughout a variety of different poetry books. They
shared their favourite poems and we discussed what made them interesting and captivating.
The students were given a poem to learn off by heart. In pairs they performed and recorded
these reading which contained great emotion, characterization and movements.
Year 4 has had a wonderful week with Ms. Lisa, a training teacher from Sweden. Ms. Lisa taught us about Roman Numerals and the Colosseum, she helped us to practice our writing skills, and she read with us. The most exciting part of her trip was filming a movie about EIS that she is taking to show her students in Sweden! The video will be emailed out soon, so watch out for it! We will miss Ms. Lisa and wish her well with her teaching in Sweden! Our class trip to the zoo is on Monday. Please re-
member to send warm clothes and a water bottle.

Secondary school students from year 7 to year 12 are exploring a new team sport known as ultimate disk or as originally known, ultimate frisbee.
Ultimate Frisbee Club
Although ultimate frisbee resembles many traditional sports in it's athletic requirements, it is unlike most sports due to its focus on self officiating, even at the highest levels of compe-tition.
Ultimate Frisbee is a non contact team sport played with a flying disc. Developed by a group of students at Columbia High School in New Jersey in 1968, the sport has widely spread across the USA and other countries.

Secondary students are starting an exciting
project on translations from English to Rus-
sian. The students picked out their favourite
movies or TV shows and took quotes from it
and translated it into English. This project
will involve the students making a presenta-
tion about the chosen translated quotes,
along with the explanation of the context of
these quotes which they will present in their classes. The work will be printed out then and
stuck in the hallways for the entire school to see.
What the students are saying about this project:
Translation Club
These kinds of projects help the students to
improve their translation and public speak-
ing skills.
"This project was really fun and interesting to
make. I hope we could do more projects like this
in the future!”
“I find this project interesting from the fact that I am translating one of my favourite
shows and it’s most significant episode where the truth gets revealed to everyone.”
