Some words die , some change their meanings and all the time new worlds appear in the language. There are several ways to add new worlds to the language. One of them is borrowing worlds from other languages.

Page 13: English in the world

The English language has always been constantly changing. At the end of the 20th century in English there are many worlds that borrowed from Latin, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and other languages. “Umbrella”- from Italian, “skates”- from Dutch

“Tea”- from Chinese, “cigar”- from Spanish.

Page 15: English in the world

The words that are borrowed tell us about countries they have come from. Many Italian words that are now part of English(opera, operetta, piano) have to do with music. Italian musicians have always been among the most famous in the world. Some of the English words of today are derivates.

One way of creating new words to put together two or more older English words railway, football.

Page 17: English in the world

Many of the new English words- especially new scientific ones- have been made from Latin and Greek words instead of English ones. Telephone for instance, was made from Greek words far and talk
