Superman and Batman are arguably one of the best fictional superheroes of all time. In the website IGN (In Game News), Batman is rated as the second top comic book heroes. On the other hand, Superman stormed the first place as the people’s choice. On a short note, Superman was first released in June 1938 (Sangiacomo.M, 2014) and it is arguably the single most important creation of history as Superman is the blueprint for the modern Superheroes. Batman itself first came to appearance in May 1939 (comicvine, 2014) and is well known for its dark character it presents. Throughout the years, these comics were adapted and made into films and cartoons. From the movies, Man of Steel and Batman Begins, both Superman and Batman have a lot in common. Both characters from the movie present similarities ranging from personal backgrounds, motivations and led a double lives.

Based from the movie Man of Steel and Batman Begins, both Clark and Bruce have similar personal background of losing their parents at a young tender age. Clark’s parents had passed away even before he could open up his eyes. Clark had to face the fact that he was adopted and raised by human parents. At times, Clark feels lonely as he was different from his human counterparts. For example, in part of the movie, Clark was seen as a loner for being different even at a young age. However, he was brought up in a family with lots of love coming from both his parents who adopted him. Similarly, based from the movie Batman Begins, Bruce lost both his parents at a young age in a turn of events, where both his parents were shot to death while he witnessed everything in complete shock. Because of that event, he isolated himself and lives a solemn and depressing lifestyle.

On the other hand, both Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne showed a strong sense of justice in them. For instance, in the movie Man of Steel, Clark used his supernatural power that he possesses for the good of the people by fighting against evil. Clark used his supernatural abilities like flying, laser eyes and strong physics to save the world from danger. In the climax of the movie, Clark was shown saving mankind from the destruction of earth even if it meant standing against his own people from Krypton. Clark was greatly motivated and believed that he was destined to save mankind and be the symbol of hope after talking with his real father’s shadow and consciousness. Moreover, in the movie Batman Begins, Bruce who was motivated by the loneliness and anger after his parents were taken away from him, resented injustice and became a hero that saves people from injustice. Bruce used his wealth, technologies and well-trained stealth skills to save the world from danger. For example, Bruce was trained in the League of Shadows to be a stealthy ninja that faced his own fears and becomes truly invisible. Furthermore, the technology that Bruce owned is way ahead of their time. With all of this combined, Batman is seen as a mysterious dark character that lurks the city at night saving the people of Gotham from injustice.

Additionally, based from both the movies researched, both Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne showed a soft side in them by portraying compassion towards people. For example, from the movie Man of Steel, Clark showed a compassionate act in healing Lois Lane’s internal hemorrhage by using his laser eyes on her. Without a second thought, Clark also acted out of compassion and saved the people from the burning oil rig while he was tasked to be a fisherman. Moreover, as much as Clark wanted to keep a low profile of his supernatural abilities, his compassionate heart led him to save his school mates when an accident happened to the bus. This eventually leads him to further problems of rejection among his peers for being different. Likewise, from the movie Batman Begins, Bruce showed compassion towards

Ra’s al Ghul and saved his mentor from burning to death. Bruce also portrayed compassion by giving his high-tech telescope to the boy who was facing difficulties.

Moreover, both characters, Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne led a double life and are secretive about their profile. For instance, in the movie Man of Steel, Clark hides his identity from people by keeping a low profile while staying in the farm with his parents. Clark also dresses up differently from time to time and has many jobs. Indifferently, based from the movie Batman Begins, Bruce hides his identity from people pretending as a wealthy playboy to cover up his secret life. Bruce also conceals himself by wearing a mask when he transformed to being Batman in his other life.

In conclusion, the perception and impressions from others in society on both characters from the movie Man of Steel and Batman Begins are greatly feared by the people. They are also considered as a hero by some. Both characters in the movie Man of Steel and Batman Begins have lots of similarities in terms of personal background, what leads to their motivations and how they led their double lives. I grew up watching different variations of Superman and Batman cartoons. Personally, I prefer Batman over Superman. This is because Batman has way cooler gadgets and a more interesting personality.
