Lewis & ClarkThe expedition of Lewis and Clark (1804-1806), led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, was the first overland expedition starting from the eastern United States reached the Pacific coast and back.

yLewis claimed that the mouth of the River Dubois (on the east bank of the Mississippi, opposite the mouth of the Missouri River) was the official starting point of the expedition, although the two and a half months that led them down the Ohio River can be considered the real beginning.

On april 1805, some members of the expedition were sended to home in what they called «the return group». With them they sended an infrom with the description of Lewis and Clark discoveries, 108 botanica and zoological specimens 68 minerals, and the map of Clark of United States.
