ano GonvenlentSimple, digital micrometer circle read-ing, automatic venical indexing andexceplionally bright and large cirelereading images are the special advan-tages of the engineer's theodolite K1-M.The instrumenl also features a repe-tition clamp and an optical plummet.The possibility ol combining the K1-Mwith the electro-oDtical distance meterDM 502 considerably expands itsalready wide lield of application.The K1-M meets all practical demands,made on a modern instrument in termsof accuracy, measuring reliability andconvenience of oDeration. lt has, further-more, undergone strict tests, such asthose included in military specifications(functional reliability over a wide tem-peralure range, under wet and dustyconditions. in case of shock and impact,etc.). Ball Bearing TelescopeVertical Axis The powerf ul telescooe with its 30 x

magnification possesses exemplaryoptical correction and produces a sharp,upright image. All optical componentshave an ant i - re f lect ion coat ing on bothsides. The telescooe is fitted with theuniversal reticule,The knob of the focusing drive includesa bui l t - in mechanical reduct ion gear .Approximat ion of the sharp image israpidly obtained with the coarse adjust-ment, while the subsequent backwardmovement automatically brings in thefine adjust mechanism for exactfocusing.

In place of the manually adjusted col-l imat ion level , the K1-M has a pendu-lum compensator. It automaticallyeliminates the influence of inclinationof the vertical axis in vertical anglemeasurements.The low-friction mounting of the pen-dulum on precision ball bearings iscapable of meeting the most rigorousrequirements; it has proved its reliabilityin tens of thousands of theodolites andleveling instruments. The effective airdamping permits unimpeded readingeven in the case of vibrations.The compensator forms a comDact unitwith the two circle reading devices, theadjustment of which is therefore per-fectlv retained.

Gircle lllumination K1-M Gompass Combinationlf insufficient light is available, thereading fields are illuminated with thelighting fixture (at left) or with thediode lighting device " Lux-Timer" (atright). The lighting fixture is poweredby a small battery attached to thetripod leg or by the battery of theelectro-oDtical distance meter.The " Lux-Timer" has a built-inreplaceable 9V battery. lt is switchedon by depressing a button and willi l luminate the reading fields for about20 seconds.

Theodolite with the DM 502

Due to its non-magnetic construction,the K1-M is except ional ly su i tab le forcompass surveys. The azimuth of theline of sight can be taken directly fromthe circular comoass.The horizontal circle can be orientedtowards the North with the tubularcompass.

The Kern DM 502 electro-oDticaldistance meter can be combined notonly with the DKlVl2-A one secondtheodolite or with the scale theodoliteK1-S but a lso wi th the K1-M. Thedistance measuring part can be slippedon to the telescope and locked. Thisideal instrument combination Dermitssimultaneous measurements of anqlesand distances, such as are requireä forcadaslral surveys according to thepolar method or in lavout work on theconstruction site. Even with the attachedDM 502, the telescope of the theodolitecan be plunged over both ends. Thepower supply passes from the supplyunit on the tripod to the central il lu-mination connector on the lower Dartof the theodolite. The alidade thusremains freely rotatable and its oper-ation is not impeded by cables. (Furtherinformation on the DM 502 are con-tained in brochure number 145.)
