3DORIS Group - Activity Report 2020

Christophe DEBOUVRYChairman and CEO,DORIS Group

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN AND CEO

2019 and 2020 showed the true resilience of the DORIS Group.

Throughout the period, the oil and gas sector has been faced with a series of challenges, from the continued low investment by large clients in 2019 (following on from previous years) to the shock caused by the global sanitary crisis which caused oil prices to collapse in 2020.

Despite these trying times, DORIS remained a robust group for our clients, who trusted us to help them develop their projects and manage their installations.

DORIS is renowned for its excellence and reliability, and our clients have rewarded us with their trust.

As DORIS is one of the most respected off shoreenergy engineering companies, we have beenable to continue our growth along our four strategic segments:

Oil and Gas• with subsea, conventional and deep water

developments and the design of production, compression and well head platform design, plus FLNG and FPSO projects around the world (in Mexico, Angola, Nigeria, Cameroon, the USA, the UAE, Qatar and Myanmar),

• with platform management (as an operator) in the UK.

Sustainable Development • with studies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

on two FPSOs in Angola, and a production platform in Nigeria,

• with other types of projects, such as the flexible pipeline study to bring fresh water to a village on Las Huichas Island in Chile, improving the lives of its inhabitants.

Renewable energy• With fixed offshore wind of course, pushing

forward with our activities in the UK, in Vietnam and in Taiwan,

• With deep sea wind turbines, with studies, services and consulting we bring to floating wind technology, and by the promotion of our NereWind semi-submersible floating wind turbine design,

• And also with our AWC (Articulated Wind Column) design, adapted to intermediate depths of 60m to 200m.

• Lastly, with our offshore green hydrogenproduction solutions.

DigitalizationIn an eff ort to support all of these activities, and as we’ve been doing for 55 years, DORIS has remained at the cutting edge of technology. Digitalization has become a major focus for innovation. The DORIS / Aveva / Schneider Electric partnership, signed in February 2020, off ering digital twin solutions for Oil and Gas production, is the demonstration of this. This partnership goes hand in hand with our commitment to keep on providing more competitive, safer and more environmentally friendly solutions.

Over the course of 2020, DORIS has continued to advance, innovate and reinvent itself. We want our clients, our partners and our employees to see DORIS as a reliable, robust , agile and responsible group, committed to excellence in all areas. We hope that we’ve succeeded in this ambition this year.

DORIS REMAINED A ROBUST GROUP FOR OUR CLIENTS, WHO TRUSTED US TO HELP THEM DEVELOP THEIR PROJECTS AND MANAGE THEIR INSTALLATIONS

DESIGN, PRE-FEED, FEED

Design and basic engineering are intended primarily for operators. This consists of designing, developing and providing the best solutions in terms of safety, quality, cost and scheduling. It is during this design phase that we can optimise the project most eff ectively.

This year, DORIS has been working on subsea projects (subsea fields), platform design projects, FPSOs and FLNGs.In terms of sub-sea field development projects, DORIS Inc in Houston has developed the subsea part of the Trion field in Mexico for BHP (the SURF package: Subsea, Umbilical, Riser, Flowline), in the pre-FEED phase. This field is located in ultra-deep water, at a water depth of 2,500m. And in October, DORIS Inc signed the FEED contract with BHP, for the next phase of Trion.

Similar ly, in Paris and N îmes , DORIS has designed the subsea fields of Begonia, CLOV phase 3 and M2 Horst for Total in Angola. These projects consist of connecting a number of additional wells to the FPSOs already in place and increasing the production of these deep water wells.

For the platform studies, DORIS has conducted design, pre-FEED and FEED studies for the SHK compression platform on the SHWE phase 3 project, in addition to modifications on existing installations for HHI , with POSCO DAEWOO as the end client. The weight of this compression platform is around 13,000 tonnes. For Total EP Denmark, DORIS implemented the FEED of the Halfdan plat form of f the coast of Denmark.

For Perenco in the UK, on the SHARP Project, the Group’s Business Units (DORIS Engineering in Paris and ODE in London) provided the complete designs for a compression platform by converting a jack-up. Together, they were able to convert a 50 year old rig by conducting studies on stability structure, piping, electricity, instrumentation, and by running an analysis and structural evaluation of the platform.

DETAILED ENGINEERING

Of course, detailed engineering is one of DORIS’s other major activities.

Indeed, in 2020 DORIS Engineering in Paris continued the detailed study for Zinia STIL, as a sub-contractor for PONTICELLI on behalf of TOTAL E&P Angola. This detailed study focused on modifications to the Pazflor FPSO(Angola Block  17), allowing new wells to be connected to the FPSO.

ENGINEERINGTHIS IS DORIS’ CORE ACTIVITY, THE LIFE-BLOOD OF THE GROUP.DORIS IS ACTIVE THROUGHOUT EVERY PHASE OF PROJECT DEVELOPMENT: DESIGN, PRE-FEED, FEED, DETAILED ENGINEERING, OWNER’S ENGINEERING AND CONSULTING.

8

OUR ACTIVITIES, OUR ORGANISATION

Throughout 2020, DORIS Inc. in Houston and DEAL (the DORIS off ice Angola) jointly completed the detailed studies on various CABGOC platforms (Chevron in Angola), thanks to the framework contract signed with CABGOC for Blocks 0 and 14. Thanks to these, more than 15 detailed studies were underway at the beginning of 2021.

ODE was also highly active in terms of detailed s tudies , in par t icular those connected to operation and maintenance contracts signed for UK fields. In this way, various studies were conduc ted for a number o f independent operators, such as IOG on Blyth and Vulcan, INEOS on Clipper South IVB, HGSL on Tolmount and NEO Energy on Babbage. Other studies were completed for Shell on Clipper PC PT and Galleon.

INSTALLATION ENGINEERING AND MIEC

With DORIS Marine , the DORIS group is providing engineering services for Transport and Installation (T&I) and for Maintenance and Inspection (MIEC) phases.

For example, DORIS Marine conducted, on behalf of SBM on the Ruche Project in Gabon, the analysis and installation procedures for flexibles, umbilicals and jumpers, in addition to the constructibility reviews, while simultaneously deploying DORIS Marine personnel onto the SBM Installer to support the off shore teams.

Similarly, with TOTAL E&P Angola, DORIS Marine conducted MIEC and installation engineering activities on the Kaombo Project under the SURF and SPS contracts, and supervised the manufacture, installation and start-up of the Kaombo field by deploying DORIS Marine engineers to support the TOTAL teams.

CONSULTING

DORIS has set up a Consulting hub to liaise with governments, local institutions and operators. DORIS provides expertise to review future or ongoing projects. The expertise provided by DORIS allows our clients to answer the following questions:• Which type of development?• Is the development proposed by the operator

the most appropriate one for our client needs?• Which development is most economically viable

for our client project?• Which development will best take into account

our client viability, scheduling and local content?

In this way, DORIS is working with GES-Petrogaz in Senegal to review the developments made by BP on the Greater Tortue Ahmeym Project in Senegal and Mauritania, and by Woodside on the Sangomar Project in Senegal.

Additionally, DORIS provides support to analyse local content, allowing clients to:• Define the possible types of local content over

the short, medium and long term, • Build a local content plan and strategy,• Define the actions needed to meet their local

content objectives following of the pre-defined strategy.

RENEWABLES

Through ODE, its subsidiary in the UK, DORIS has become a major player in fixed offshore wind developments. ODE has strengthened its position in Great Yarmouth with SCOTTISH POWER on the EAST ANGLIA One Project. These activities have been extended to South-East Asia, with its work in Taiwan. ODE has set up a branch in Taipei and is currently working on the HAI-LONG Project for NORTHLAND POWER Inc. Since then, the Group has been providing project management support to MACQUARIE, as they manage two wind farms: FORMOSA 1 and FORMOSA 2.

The Group has also opened branches in Japan and Vietnam, where they have conducted conceptual studies for the Thang Long wind field for Enterprize Energy.

DORIS can combine i t s sk i l ls in owner ’s engineering with that of a fully-fledged engineering firm to off er our clients a 360° solution. With fixed wind projects, DORIS has developed extensive expertise in wind farm architecture, in consulting for permit file applications and in environmental studies.

DORIS is also a specialist in floating structures, and has developed and f i led a patent for the NEREWIND floating structure design. Thanks to this expertise in floating structures, DORIS can support energy specialist WPD in the analysis of various floating designs, and allowed WPD to select the best-design adapted to their project.

For fields at depths of 80m to 200m, DORIS has developed a new articulated column design: AWC (Articulated Wind Column). This column, in steel or concrete, is held in place by an articulated joint and is kept under tension by its own buoyancy. This design brings significant savings in terms of foundations and anchors , and requires no floatation super-structure.

SWAC: SEA WATER AIR CONDITIONING

Air conditioning and cooling has seen a huge increase in recent years, especially in hotter regions, and now represents 10% of the world’s electricity consumption. By 2050, cooling will be the second largest e lectr ic i t y-consuming application in the world. As such, in an effort to establish sustainable technology in the field, the DORIS group has launched several R&D initiatives to reduce the cost of SWAC projects and improve their profitability. DORIS has conducted a number of studies over recent years, and has developed a demonstrator plan for break-through technology for public funding by ADEME. Moreover, a study is currently underway (EUROSWAC) to cool the Channel Tunnel.

DORIS HAS BEEN ACTIVE IN RENEWABLE ENERGY FOR MORE THAN TWENTY YEARS, AND HAS PRIMARILY FOCUSED ON OFFSHORE WIND, WITH BOTH FIXED AND FLOATING WIND TURBINES.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCEThe technical assistance services offered and provided by the Group is primarily about off shore installations for the oil and gas sectors, and for the wind energy sector.

Thanks to DORIS’ global positioning (under the STAT brand), the Group off ers a unique portfolio of skills and expertise on every continent: • in engineering, • in project management, • in project control, • in site supervision, • in off shore supervision.

In the USA, DORIS is currently supporting MURPHY, SOFEC and WILLIAMS projects. In Angola, DORIS is assisting TOTAL with their activities in blocks 17 and 32, ENI on block 15/06, and CABGOC (Chevron Angola) on blocks 0 and 14. In Australia, DORIS is continuing to support INPEX with their Ichthys Project.

Technical assistance represents around 25% of the Group’s activities.

1. The Babbage Platform

1

These activities are conducted exclusively by the British subsidiary, ODE. In 2017, ODE (who had been running operations and maintenance for more than a decade), became a “Duty Holder”, allowing them to operate gas fields in the North Sea. These activities have been run out of Great Yarmouth and Aberdeen.ODEAM (ODE Asset Management) is the legal ent i t y dedicated to handl ing the projects associated with these activities.

In this way, ODEAM manages the Conwy Tailwind platform, BABBAGE NEO Energy, Blythe and Southwark for IOG, and TOLMOUNT for HGSL (owned by Kellas Midstream.

The DORIS group can thereby pour all of its expertise into the engineering, the management and the performance of operations and maintenance, and technical assistance (International Consultancy & Secondment). These activities are all synergistic, each reinforcing the others.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

REDUCING OUR GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

DORIS conducted a review of TOTAL’s installations on block 17 in Angola. An assessment of the FPSOs (Floating Production Storage and Off loading) was conducted, with a review of the emissions on the main systems still ongoing. A number of solutions were developed and submitted to TOTAL for implementation.

HYDROGEN

Via its subsidiary ODE, DORIS was part of the DOLPHYN Project alongside ERM, working on the conceptual design and feasibility of an offshore hydrogen production process on board a floating deep-sea wind platform.

The detailed studies will take place in 2021, and a pilot should be up and running by 2025.

Lastly, we signed a partnership with LHYFE, the French green hydrogen producer. Th is partnership will allow hydrogen to be produced at sea using renewable energy.

SUPPORT FOR LOCAL POPULATIONS

Another avenue which DORIS is taking towards sustainable development is its commitment to local populations. As such, DORIS has developed a project with VIA MARINA which will provide fresh water by flexible subsea pipeline to the village of Puerto Aguirre , on Las Huichas Island, in the Australe region of Chile.

Las Huichas Island is currently having serious diff iculties in terms of drinking water, caused both by the expanding population and a reduction in rainfall. The only sources of drinking water on the island are rainwater and a small diesel-powered desalination unit. This situation places particular pressure on the island’s economic development.

But with this subsea pipeline, Puerto Aguirre should have a steady supply of drinking water.

Local contentThe local content for projects forms a major part of DORIS’ vision.

For DORIS, local content means:

• training and developing teams on site,• ensuring that the teams on site reach the required

level o f technical , f inanc ia l and pro ject management excellence,

• that the DORIS mindset is shared by all,• having a strict handover plan, so local teams can

be fully independent.

This is what DORIS has achieved in Nigeria (with IESL DORIS), in Angola (with DORIS Engenharia Angola Ltda), and will implement in Mozambique in 2021 (with DORIS Mozambique).

THROUGHOUT 2019 AND 2020, DORIS HAS ACCELERATED ITS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES IN SEVERAL AREAS: REDUCING GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS FROM OIL AND GAS INSTALLATIONS, HYDROGEN, PROJECTS TO SUPPORT LOCAL POPULATIONS

OUR ACTIVITIES, OUR ORGANISATION

12

DIGITALIZATION

DORIS’ Houston off ice has developed a digital application for the alkalination unit of the Torrance refinery in California, for PBF Energy.

This application provides:• Improved corrosion monitoring for the unit ’s

pipes, • Better use of data, • An easy to use overview of the site’s corrosion

levels, viewable on PC, tablet or smartphone.

DORIS can offer a 3D visualisation tool, Blue Base, for the subsea and topside installations, which was developed by our Nîmes off ice. Clients have the option to virtually move around and see the details of their installations, in 3D and in augmented reality. They can then understand the site, as it is designed and installed.

DORIS has formed a par tnership with Schneider Electric and AVEVA to create digital twin units in the oil and gas production sector. This partnership brings together three major and complementary players :

• DORIS brings its experience and expertise in off shore engineering,

• Schneider Electric provides expertise in energy management and automated solutions,

• AVEVA has the tools and software needed to design platforms and develop digital twins.

This Alliance will allow us to:• Track the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions

from oil and gas installations• Optimise production• Increase operator revenue by reducing shut-

downs• Reduce OPE X , by p rov id ing s imp l i f i ed

maintenance and unmanned installations (fewer on-board operators)

• Increase the safety of personnel, and help protect the environment.

FOR BOTH NEW AND EXISTING INSTALLATIONS, DORIS HARNESSES DIGITALIZATION TO PROVIDE “OPTIMISED” SOLUTIONS: LEADING TO REDUCTIONS IN CAPEX AND OPEX, MAKING INSTALLATIONS MORE SECURE, ALLOWING FOR BETTER MONITORING AND A REDUCTION IN GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS.
