MONTHLY PROGRESS REPORT REMEDIAL INVESTIGATION/FEASIBILITY STUDY

SUTTON BROOK DISPOSAL AREA SUPERFUND SITE January 2007

February 14,2007

This monthly progress report is submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) documenting the activities completed during the month of January 2007 at the subject site pursuant to the Administrative Order by Consent for Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study, Docket No. CERCLA-01-2004-0002.

1. Reporting Activities Completed

• Submitted December monthly progress report to EPA and MassDEP on January 12th.

• Conducted monthly conference call between EPA, MassDEP, and the PRP Group. The call washelheldd oonn JanuarJanuaryy 1616tthh T(thir(thirdd Tuesday of each month) meeting the requirements of the monthly meeting required in the AOC.

• Ecological Risk Assessment

o Submitted technical memorandum describing the sediment sampling, results, and recommendations for additional evaluation with regard to the Deep Marsh adjacent to the Southern Lobe - January 8th;

o EPA provided comments on the Deep Marsh technical memo on January 17th and January 18th;

o Submitted responses to comments on the Deep Marsh memo on January 18th;

o Submitted sediment toxicity testing results from the Southern Tributary samples to EPA-January 18th;

Phase 1 Feasibility Study (FS)

o Conducted conference call with EPA, M&E, MassDEP, and TOXIC representative to discuss the December 15th responses to comments on the Phase 1 FS - January 11th;

o January 18th - EPA provided comments to the responses to comments with an indication that these comments do not need to be responded to directly and further modification of the Phase 1 FS is not anticipated.

Preliminary Remediation Goals

o Submitted technical memorandum describing the approach to developing numerical Preliminary Remediation Goals (PRGs) to be used in the FS- January 10th;

o EPA provided comments on the technical memorandum on January 19th;

o Submitted responses to comments on January 31st;

• Submitted memorandum on the clarification on the use of Post Draft RI data in the Final RI Report - January 31st;

2. Site Activities Completed

• The three recently installed soil gas probes along the dirt access road adjacent to the Northern Lobe and proximate monitoring wells (headspace) were sampled on January 22nd and January 23rd;

3. Sampling Data/Results

• Soil vapor results from the December and January sampling are attached.

4. Concerns Encountered and Corrective Actions Taken

• None at this time.

5. Anticipated Near-Term Project Schedule

• The following is a summary of the near-term project schedule:

- Prepare and submit Phase 2 Feasibility Study - February;

- Submit revised RI report, incorporating EPA comments - February;

- Submit revised human health and ecological risk assessments, incorporating EPA comments - February;

- Sample private non-drinking water well located at 30 Homestead Lane, in conjunction with EPA - pending access.

6. Upcoming Meetings and Conference Calls

• Monthly conference calls have been scheduled for the third Tuesday of each month at 9:00 AM. Anticipated attendance will include W&C, EPA, MassDEP, and a representative from the PRP Group. The next scheduled call will be February 20th. The standing dial-in number is:
