Participants at the meeting also discussed a number of research programs and projects the Company is currently engaged with that aim to address the increased number of motorists on the roads. In this regard, KOC has introduced a number of proposals for the increase in traffic and violations. The proposals include speed monitoring with smart cameras and radars, the reevaluation of U-turns and replacing them with bridges, and ensuring the presence of traffic police during road maintenance. In addition, traffic patrols would be intensified to prevent negative driving behaviors and an intensive safe- driving awareness campaign would be implemented. Meanwhile, protective measure would be taken to ensure moving sand does not encroach on Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Road.

KOC recently held a coordination meeting with the Ministry of Interior, during which they discussed cooperation between the two sides on current and future projects within the Company’s areas of operation.

As part of its commitment to social responsibility, and in cooperation with the Kuwait Down Syndrome Society, KOC recently organized a two-day awareness exhibition on Down syndrome at the 360 Mall.

Manager Public Relations & Information Mohammed Al-Basry inaugurated the exhibition, which aimed to create better understanding amongst the public about Down syndrome. The exhibition also served as an affirmation of KOC’s commitment to cooperate with and support the State of Kuwait’s various civil institutes for the greater good of the public.

The exhibition was met with great interest from mall visitors and those affected in some way by this social issue. In addition, the exhibition featured a number of programs, including a handicrafts demonstration and the distribution of gifts.

Over the years, KOC has done much in the way of contributing to social causes, particularly those related to the special-needs community. One of the Company’s long-term goals will continue to be the provision all types of support for various social causes.

D&T Directorate Holds QPR MeetingMeeting chaired by DCEO Ayad Al-Kandari

KOC Organizes Down Syndrome Awareness ExhibitionInaugurated by PR & Information Group Manager

The D&T Directorate recently held a QPR meeting to review its performance over the last quarter of the 2015/16 fiscal year. The meeting was chaired by DCEO Ayad Al-Kandari and held in the presence of the Group’s Managers and Team Leaders. The event, which was held at the Jumeirah Hotel in Messila, was organized by the Planning Team (D&T) under the supervision of TL Majid Al-Enezi.

The event began with a speech from Al-Kandari, who welcomed the attendees and representatives from various departments at the Company. In his speech, Al-Kandari upheld the importance of the event, which allowed a large number of employees from the Directorate to meet in one place and review their respective performances from the last quarter.

The HSE moment was presented by Senior Engineer and Acting TL Well Surveillance Support Emad Safar, who discussed the Company’s solar energy project that is being implemented by the Well Surveillance Group. This was followed by presentations, including one provided by the Industrial Relations Team regarding Dress Code regulations that the Company recently adopted.

The meeting discussed the performance of the Directorate over the last year, which was instrumental in the Company’s success in increasing oil production through an increase in wells drilled and regular maintenance. At the end of the event, Al-Kandari thanked everyone in attendance for their efforts and encouraged them to continue working for the benefit of KOC and the State of Kuwait.

The Planning Group, through the Integrated Business Planning Team, recently organized a workshop to improve working methods and planning mechanisms at KOC with the participation of Planning, Fields Development, and Operations Teams from various Groups within the Company.

The goal of the workshop was to contribute to the development of annual plans, two-year plans, and five-year plans for KOC. The workshop was supervised by TL Integrated Business Planning Osama Al-Rahmani and held at the Subaihiya Oasis.

Meanwhile, the Training Competency Team of the Training & Career Development Group contributed to the workshop by introducing the “Kaizen” system of continuous performance development, which was also the workshop’s slogan.

Participants were encouraged to express their views in the development of proposals required for solutions to overcome the challenges facing planning processes. This was done in order to create consistent, responsive methods that will allow KOC’s goals to be met.

At the conclusion of the event, views from participants were gathered and evaluated in order to improve future planning procedures for the Company.

Planning Group Organizes WorkshopTo improve working methods and planning mechanisms

The KOC Marine Oil Spill Management Team, headed by Team Leader Captain Nasser Al-Najdi, recently participated in the GCC Oceans Experts Workshop that was held at the Kuwait University Marine Science Center.

The workshop was conducted under the patronage of Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs for the State of Kuwait, and it was also held in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. During the event, KOC Oil Spill Officer Captain Alharith Al-Ateeqi delivered a presentation that focused on his team’s mission and vision and the vital role it plays in protecting the marine environment.

The workshop aimed to share lessons learned, best practices, action plans and viewpoints of the participants, which included regional and U.S.-based researchers, scientists, academia, business people, advocates, policymakers, experts and representatives from K-Companies who are concerned with the preservation of the shared marine environment. The workshop also aimed to chart a way forward, working individually and together to achieve the strategic objectives in protecting the marine environment.

The Kuwait Chapter of the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) recently organized its third and fourth technical events for the 2015/16 fiscal year. The topic of the presentation at SWLA’s third event, which was sponsored by Xross Technology, was “Comparison of a Synthetic Horizontal Logging Method that Leverages Drilling Dynamics Relative to the Accuracy and Reliability of Conventional Logging Tools and Gamma Derived.” The presentation was delivered by Chuck Matula.

SPWLA’s fourth event was organized under the sponsorship of Baker Hughes, where Steve Smith delivered a presentation titled: “Improving Vertical Interference Testing with Data Integration.” Both events were coordinated by SPWLA’s Vice President for Communication and KOC Senior Geologist Bashar Al-Enezi and Secretary of the Kuwait Chapter Girija Shankar Padhy.

The events were attended by geoscientists and reservoir engineers from KOC, KGOC and KUFPEC, in addition to guests from Chevron, Schlumberger, Halliburton and Baker Huges. At the conclusion of the event, SPWLA President (Kuwait Chapter) and KOC Team Leader Fields Development (EK) Salem Al-Sabea presented a token of appreciation to the presenters.

SPWLA Organizes 3rd and 4th EventsPresentations on new technologies delivered

A ceremony was recently held to honor members of the Production Optimization Committee. The event was held under the patronage of DCEO (S&EK) Abdulla Al-Sumaiti.

During the ceremony which was held at the Main Office, Al-Sumaiti thanked the honorees and said they were a key element in the success of optimizing production. He added that they played a major role in compensating for lost quantity due to the closure of Wafra Field. He then encouraged those in attendance to renew their efforts for KOC and upheld his belief that they were the future of the Company.

Al-Sumaiti then recalled how the challenge started, the stages it went through, the ideas that have been put forward, and how the Company succeeded in overcoming difficulties through determination and cooperation. He then distributed a Letter of Appreciation and a gift to each of the 41team members from several departments throughout KOC.

The Production Optimization Committee works on two levels, with the first being comprised of the steering level, which includes Managers, Team Leaders and Seniors under the supervision of the DCEO. The second level includes staff and engineers who work on the ground under the guidance of Manager Well Surveillance Saeed Al-Shaheen, assisted by Head of Quality Control Unit Nada Al-Mesfer.

The Personnel Administration Team recently held a reception in honor of Othman Al-Awadhi to welcome him back to work after completing his medical treatment abroad.

The ceremony, held in the tent adjacent to the B4 Building at the New Office Complex, was attended by TL Personnel Administration Team Abdul Rahman Al-Shammari, TL Job Evaluation Fahad Al-Otaibi, and TL Employee Accounts Wafaa Al-Athaab. The event was also attended by Senior Accountants Wafaa Al-Mayyas, Manager of the NBK Branch at the Company Muneera Al-Shammari, and employees from different teams who celebrated the return of their colleague.

During the event, Al-Shammari delivered a brief speech in which he congratulated Al-Awadhi for his return and successful treatment. He wished him a full recovery and added that he was pleased to see him return to work, where he was dearly missed by his fellow colleagues.

A training course that is part of a joint program of cooperation between KOC and Kuwait University (KU) was recently concluded. The program, which was held under the auspices of Bader Al-Hadiah, Team Leader Career Development, was part of a joint effort with the Planning Team that featured the participation of 35 petroleum engineering students from Kuwait University’s Engineering and Petroleum Department.

During the course, students delivered presentations on lessons learned and experiences gained form the joint program with KOC. The presentations were delivered to Dr. Salah Al-Mudhi from KU and KOC Engineer Fadhel Al-Qallaf.

For KOC, the main objective of the program is to train and qualify students in all applied and technical respects in order to better prepare them for the work environment at the Company. It also aims to provide them with the opportunity to gain practical experience and acquire skills related to teamwork and self-reliance. In addition, the students were taught about the importance of acquiring skills related to consistency, accuracy and efficiency through training sessions in the field.

As part of its efforts toward social responsibility and as part of its interest in actively participating in humanitarian causes, the Medical Laboratories Division of Ahmadi Hospital, together with the Central Blood Bank, recently organized its annual blood donation campaign for 2016. The one-week campaign was held under the following slogan: “You Are Life.”

The campaign aimed to raise awareness among Company employees and the community at large about the importance of humanitarian work and the vital role it plays in saving human life. The campaign received positive responses from employees and the community, who were eager to donate blood to support this initiative.

During the event, Ahmadi Hospital representatives expressed their gratitude and appreciation to all donors for their efforts in making this campaign a success. They also expressed their gratitude to the Central Blood Bank for their continuous cooperation.

KOC, through the Training & Career Development Group, recently participated in the “Corporate Olympics” event that was organized by Vigor Events.

KOC came in third place at the event, which took place at the Hilton in Mangaf. The event included a number of physical and intellectual challenges and games that required high mental capacity and competency.

The Corporate Olympics included 10 competitions, with some physical, such as basketball, volleyball, table tennis and football, and some intellectual, most notably the “Market Masters,” “Crime Solvers Investigation,” and others. In addition to KOC, companies such as KPC, Equate, Zain, Warba Insurance, NBK, and Quality Net took part in the event.

KOC’s Chess Committee recently organized the Company’s 6th Chess Tournament at the Unity Center in Ahmadi. The event, which took place over the course of three days, featured the participation of more than 125 participants who were divided into three categories (Men, Women, Youth). The tournament, which utilized a rapid play system (25 minutes for every participant), witnessed excellent participation and a strong competitive spirit by participants in all categories.

On the sidelines of this tournament, Chess Committee President Eng. Adel Al-Omairi indicated that the tournament was characterized by a large number of participants in comparison to previous ones. This, he said, proved how the tournament and interest in chess continues to develop year after year. It also reaffirmed the Chess Committee’s success in attracting distinguished players. Last year’s tournament featured 45 participants whereas this year’s tournament witnessed the participation of 125 individuals.
