CANADA
recent government sign-offs on new wind projects in British Colum-bia, Alberta, ontario, Quebec and nova scotia are ample testimony to Canada’s serious intention to boost its wind generation capacity. in 2013 alone, the world’s 6th biggest energy consumer commissioned 23 new wind farms with a combined capaci-ty of around 1,600 Mw.
At the end of last year, the 4,376 wind turbines in Canada’s 184 wind farms generated more than 7,800 megawatts (MW) of electricity. This rather impressive figure is set to rise further in future – and significantly – not least because of the Canadian government’s strong support of the renewables sector, which takes the form of incentives, direct investment and feed-in tariffs. Forecasts suggest that Canada’s wind generation capacity will grow by an average of around 1,500 MW each year in the coming decade. And this sort
BRAZIL
Brazil is on course to invest some 90 billion euros in the expansion of its energy supply system over the period from 2011 to 2020. More than half of this amount will go into the development of renewables.
These impressive figures mark Brazil out as one of Latin America’s frontrun-ners in the development of renewable energy. Of the 46 billion euros that Brazil plans to invest in renewables, 55 % will be spent on expanding the country’s mainstay hydroelectric capacity, and 45 % on wind energy, biomass and small hydro. The Bra-zilian government plans to increase the wind share of the country’s total electricity supply to around 7 % by 2020. Perfect timing, then, for foreign providers of renewables-based decen-tralized electricity generation and sup-ply technology to position themselves in the Brazilian market by participating at the RENEX SOUTH AMERICA trade fair in Porto Alegre.
Make the Connection –why exhibit in the Key Markets.
of dynamic growth will certainly be needed if the country, which ranks among the world’s energy-sector heavyweights, is to realize its ambi-tious plan – to increase the wind share of its total energy mix to 20 % by 2025 in order to stabilize electricity prices and cut CO2 emissions by 17 megatons per year. The Canadian government has earmarked the gigantic sum of 80 billion Canadian dollars for funding in support of new wind generation projects.
The CanWEA fair in Montreal is the perfect business platform for foreign companies who want to benefit from Canada’s wind energy boom. CanWEA is Canada’s leading trade fair for wind generation technology. The Canadian Wind Energy Association, the fair’s long-standing organizer, recently en-tered into a partnership with Deutsche Messe subsidiary Hannover Fairs USA. The two organizations will stage their first joint CanWEA this year.

USA
the Us energy market is in for a major shake-up. the country has more than triple the per capita ener-gy consumption of the EU and in the coming years plans to invest colossal sums in modernizing its energy gen-eration and grid infrastructure.
One of the biggest challenges for the USA will be to transition its outage-prone and aging grid infra-structure to smart grid technology and implement efficient consum-er-side energy management sys-tems. A study by the Electric Power Research Institute indicates that this will require somewhere between 250 and 350 billion euros worth of investment in the country’s power transmission and distribution grids between now and 2032. On top of that, the USA is forecast to invest about another 185 billion euros in maintaining and expanding its grids so that they can handle the challenges posed by the country’s steadily growing renewables sector. There’s no better place to gain a foothold in the US market than at the Energy Pavilion at the ELECTRIC POWER show in New Orleans.
TURKEY
the turkish economy is booming, driving an appetite for energy that is forecast to grow by round 7% an-nually between now and 2023. A fair share of this growth is likely to be of the sustainable variety, as by then the country hopes to have met its ambitious goal of generating about 30% of its total energy requirement from renewables.
Turkey already sits at No. 17 in the global GDP rankings, and the Organisation for Economic Coop-eration and Development (OECD) anticipates that it will soon be the fastest-growing OECD country, with its GDP expected to increase by an average of 6.7 % annually between 2011 and 2017. Turkey is located at the crossroads between Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, giving energy companies easy access to around 1.5 billion customers. Between now and 2023, the country is forecast to invest over 88 billion euros in energy infrastruc-ture. International companies will find just the platforms they need at the ICCI combined energy trade-show and conference and the Elec-trotech EURASIA tradeshow at WIN EURASIA. Both events are staged in Istanbul.
GERMANY
the process of transforming germa-ny’s energy system, which was sparked by environmental concerns in 2011, is opening up big opportunities for new energy technology. to succeed, germany’s ambitious plan to become the world’s first renewables-powered industrialized nation will rely heavily on the innovative power of energy technology companies.
If Germany’s energy system trans-formation goes according to plan, the country will have entered a new renewables-based era by 2050. Germany is not only expanding its renewables generation capacity, but is also increasingly focusing on boost-ing energy efficiency. According to the country’s federal government, by the middle of this century, Germany will have invested around 550 billion euros in transforming its energy system. Of course, the new genera-tion capacity will need to go hand in hand with investment in new smart power transmission and distribution infrastructure. To this end, Germany is planning to devote around 10 billion euros to installing some 3,600 kilo-meters of new 380 kV transmission lines by 2020. Other key measures include investment in efficient energy storage solutions, the modernization of residential and commercial build-ing energy systems and the imple-mentation of nationwide electric mobility infrastructure. HANNOVER MESSE’s “Energy” fair is the perfect business platform for companies who wish to participate in and contribute to Germany’s energy system trans-formation. Energy brings together all energy sector stakeholders. More than 60% of the roughly 90,000 trade visitors expected to attend each year are decision makers, and nearly one quarter come to Hannover with con-crete investment plans.
