    The SEER rat ing of a unit is the coo l ing ou tpu t dur ing a

    This Malaysian Standard was developed by the Working Group

    on Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for Air

    Cond it ioners under the author i ty of the Industry Standards

    Comm ittee on Electr ical and Electron ics Equipments and

    Accessor ies.

    MEPS for electr ical appl iances have been introduced to

    Malays ian market sin ce 2009. Since then, development has been

    carr ied out b y Suruhanjaya Tenaga to put MEPS requirement in

    the Electr ic i ty Regu lation 1994.

    Energy Eff iciency Ratio (EER) Ratio of the total cooling capacity to the effective

    power input at any given set of rating conditions. Theunit is (Btu/h)/W.

    Minimum Energy Performance Standards(MEPS) The minimum level of energy efficiency which has to be

    met by each of applicable air conditioners.

    Star rat ing The number of stars displayed on the energy label.Available stars are between a minimum of one and amaximum of five.

    Energy Star rating: The Environmental Protection Agency'sEnergy Star ratings indicate that an appliance is at least 10percent more energy-efficient than the minimum federalstandards.

    EER: A room air conditioner's EER, or Energy-Efficiency Ratio, isthe ratio of the cooling output divided by the unit's power

    consumption. The higher the EER, the more efficient the model. Anti-Microbial filter? Most room air conditioners come with

    reusable electrostatic filters, which may be treated with triclosan.If purchasing a unit with an antimicrobial filter, ask the retailerto replace it with an untreated electrostatic filter.
