Nuclear Shaping the futureWe strive to improve lives through nuclear energy, using our skills to safely maximise lifetime output and minimise waste impact, and dedicating ourselves to the construction of new nuclear power stations around the world.

From our role on one of the first generation nuclear reactors in the UK in the 1950s to our current work developing options for safe life extension and clean-up, our experience in nuclear spans virtually the whole history of the industry and the nuclear lifecycle.

Nuclear know-howWe’re helping transform the nuclear industry by combining our specialist nuclear skills with the breadth and depth of technical knowledge from other infrastructure disciplines around the company. These ‘cross-industry’ skills set us apart from many of the traditional nuclear specialist providers.

Global experience and perspectivesOur energy hubs in Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Americas enable us to provide the highest level of expertise in nuclear engineering, nuclear project and site management as well as market leading technologies in waste management to the most challenging nuclear commissions worldwide.

Realising potential in partnershipWe believe that working together with clients and industry partners we can achieve great things that will secure the future success of nuclear.

Ingenuity is critical to providing the best engineering and design solutions and our strong track record of delivery has helped us engage in some of the biggest partnerships in the industry.

Together we are facing some extraordinary challenges across new build, generation, enrichment and clean-up.

Designing the futureOur extensive knowledge of the legislative and regulatory frameworks required to develop new nuclear is helping clients develop new nuclear programmes around the world.

As a leading civil, structural and infrastructure design house we’re able to mobilise large multidisciplinary design teams from different international locations to complement our local experts.

Sustainable generationWe work closely with our clients to provide engineering, safety and environmental services to their nuclear operations. Safety reviews, recovery projects and life extension programmes are just some of the capabilities we provide.

Since joining forces with Nuclear Safety Associates in 2014 we’ve been able to bring the best expertise in nuclear safety, design engineering and professional security services from both the UK and the US to the international nuclear industry.

Safe clean-upWe’ve been involved in the nuclear clean up in the UK since the late 1980s working with Sellafield Ltd, Magnox and UKAEA and drawing on skills acquired in the offshore sector where there was a similar demand for remote operations.

In 2015 we brought on board the Projects, Products and Technology division of EnergySolutions (PP&T), a market leader in designing solutions for the treatment and stabilisation of high and intermediate hazard level nuclear waste in North America. PP&T’s highly specialised technologies and proven track record of executing large and complex projects, including high profile work for the US Department of Energy, US Navy and Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, means Atkins is well positioned to undertake Tier 1 contracts for the management and decommissioning of nuclear sites around the world.
