Introduction : Our school, Barnes school with its unbeatable education system

and amazing facilities is ranked no.1 in Maharashtra and no.15 in India. Our school has large campus of 256 acres. It is one of the largest school in India and was founded by Bombay Education Society. Our school is 90 years old but all the well constructed building still stand firm at its place. Our school has a strength of 1500 children approximately from all over the world who come to study at this temple like school, Barnes school. Our school is ICSE and ISC affiliated. Our school is not just an educational institution, a mere structure, is much more than that.

TO GET A GRIP ON SOARING ENERGY AT OUR SCHOOLS WE HAVE ADOPTED MANY POLICIES. THE FIRST AND THE MOST IMPORTANT

TECHNOLOGY IMPLEMENTED ARE THE LCB(LIGHT CIRCUIT BREAKERS) WHICH HELPS IN CUTTING DOWN CONSUMPTION AND MISUSE OF

EXTRA ENERGY. IN THE DORMETORY SOLAR HEATING SYSTEMS ARE USED INSTEAD OF THE OLD GEYSERS WHICH CONSUME A LOT OF

ENERGY.

RECENTLY THE NEW LAMP POSTS ARE PLACED WHICH USES ONLY 65KVS OF ENERGY AS COMPARED TO THE OLD ONES CONSUMING 400KVS WHICH CLEARLY EXPRESSES THE HUGE AMOUNT OF ENERGY BEING CONSERVED.

Aspects of saving energy :

• Ensuring that tht entire school knows about eco-schools and will receive regular updates

• Developing, Implementing and monitoring the school’s environmental policy that addresses the environmental concerns of the school community

• Taking the lead in carrying out the initial and subsequent environmental reviews

• Ensuring that all members(especially pupils are represented in decision making

METHODS TO ACTIVELY SAVE ENERGY : There are several methods to actively save energy at school

The school should have green roofs for vegetation and it also protects from rainfall. Being attractive, it plays a major step for students towards the temple of learning

Schools should install solar panels as it cuts down the bills and it can also be used for other purposes. We always have the power of choosing better so we surely suggest for this policy to be adopted by the school

“BEING THE HEAD OF THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT I FEEL ITS TOTALLY THE JOB OF THE STUDENT TO CHECK THAT THERE IS NO UNNECESSARY WASTAGE OF ELECTRICITY IN THE ACADEMIC BLOCK AS WELL AS IN THE DORMITORIES.

-MR. KINGSELLER

Q. WHAT ENERGY SAVING METHODS OF THE SCHOOL DO YOU KNOW?

“Our school has solar panels in the dormitories which has reduced the amount of electricity bills.”

                                                                                                   -FAIZ SAIT

                                            XI Commerce

“As our school is a boarding school we have a mess in the school itself. The mess runs purely on solar energy, from the rice that is made to the vegetables that we eat. Even the utensils which are used , are the ones which absorb heat fast so that gas cylinders are not used so much which reduces the amount of bill.”

                                                                               SHILPA  MANWANI                                                                                                XII Science

“The dormitories have solar geysers

which are used. These solar geysers

are used only once in a day that is used in the morning that has reduced the bill by

15%”

-BOBBY PETERS

“Our school has moved on from the normal tubelights to

the LED lights. LCB(light circuit

breakers) are being used to check that there is no wastage

of electricity”-

SHANTANU NIGAM

“The head of the maintenance

department takes two rounds of the

school campus daily to check whether the

fans and lights are ’switched off’ if

students are not in the class”

-ANUJ PAUL

HOW CAN METHODS OF SAVING ENERGY BE BROUGHT TO PEOPLE’S ATTENTION?- HAVE STUDENTS MAKE SIGNS AND

STICKERS TO REMIND PEOPLE TO TURN OFF THE LIGHTS WHEN THEY LEAVE A ROOM.

HOW TO ACHIEVE EACH PERSON’S CO- OPERATION AT SCHOOL?

FORM A STUDENT ENERGY PATROL TO ENSURE LIGHTS ARE OUT WHEN ROOMS ARE EMPTY(CHECK CLASSROOM, THE CAFETERIA AND THE AUDITORIUM.

BARNES WIND MILLS

• OUR SCHOOL HAS ITS OWN WINDMILLS WHICH WAS INTRODUCED BY THE CHIEF COMMANDER OF AIRFORCE.

• ONE OF THE TEACHER OF OUR SCHOOLS-MR VIJAY NAIR WAS THE HEAD OF THIS PROJECT.

• THIS WINDMILL HAS REDUCED THE AMOUNT OF ELECTRICITY BILLS IN THE SCHOOL HOSTEL.

Conclusion : In the conclusion we would like to mention that there is an urgent need

for all of us to conserve energy before there is no energy left for our future generations.

On 28 march the earth day was observed, more such campaign should be organized in order to encourage people.
