EXPERIENCESet in the highly sought after Naboisho Conservancy, Encounter Mara Camp gives guests access to some of the best wildlife viewing in East Africa. The award winning camp is set in the shade of a thick forest with sweeping views out onto the traditional savannah that makes up much of the conservancy.

Then jet off for a few nights at one of our Matemwe properties to end off your safari. Vibrant yet relaxed Matemwe, one of the first lodges in Zanzibar, has perfected the tropical island experience. Perched on an outcrop overlooking a shallow coral fringed lagoon on the quieter northeast coast of Zanzibar, Matemwe’s peaceful location and famed relaxed atmosphere, makes it the ideal place to unwind.

“From day one the experience was phenomenal. Our guide Dickson was personable, knowledgeable, adventurous, each day seaching endlessly each day to find yet another elusive animal we had yet not encountered, needless to say we saw them all. By the end of the 5 days Dickson had become a true friend!”

MARA NABOISHOCONSERVANCY

A vital corridor for the little known Loita Migration which sees up to 5,000 wildebeest and 1,000 zebra move through the area annually. Naboisho is also a haven for elephants with more elephants here per kilometer squared than in the Maasai Mara Reserve itself. Lions have also thrived within the conservancy with over 50 known individuals as well as leopard, cheetah and even the rare striped hyena. All this is right on your door step with the added advantage that the iconic Maasai Mara Reserve is easily accessible. However, the real magic of Naboisho is its sheer exclusivity. Only a handful of lodges are situated in the conservancy, ensuring a level of safari solitude simply unheard of in the busy Serengeti and Maasai Mara reserves. Here we see herds of animals, not herds of cars.

Local Maasai guides, many of whom are landowners themselves, will interpret the bush for you on game drives, bush walks and night drives as well as introduce you to the communities who are living in harmony with the land. Visit the Mara Naboisho Conservancy website for more information.

YOUR ACCOMMODATION

Built in total harmony with the land, Encounter Mara is an authentic safari camp which blends seamlessly with the bush. Hidden away in a forest, it is not unusual to see a giraffe or zebra strolling through the camp.

The 10 tents are spacious with panoramic views of the rolling savannah ahead, these views are best enjoyed from the comfy couch on the verandah. The main area is furnished in a simple, yet contemporary style which allows the views of the Maasai Mara ahead to take center stage.

With the main area looking out at a salt lick which regularly attracts everything from big cats to plains game, it is easy to stay in camp for the day relaxing in the lounge with a cold drink in hand, watching the wildlife come to you.
