One method of enhancing learning is to provide immediate feedback on the assignment which allows students to check and correct their solutions prior to submitting them. This can be done to some extent using LEARN. In addition to this, it is also important that students learn to present their calculations in a tidy and neat manner, much like that in actual engineering practice, so that others can follow their work. This is an essential habit in all forms of engineering, and one which we hope to help you to build in preparation for the years ahead after you finish your undergraduate studies. In order to fulfil these aims, the assignment will be assessed in two components: i) LEARN online quizzes. ii) A full set of calculations presented in a hand-written form. LEARN quizzes An online quiz will be activated on LEARN for the duration of each assignment. Each quiz will contain questions related to the assignment, such as requesting key values of intermediate steps or asking multiple choice questions. Numerical solutions are accepted within a specified tolerance (usually between 0.5-1%). Students are able to reattempt the quiz an infinite number of times until the time the assignment is due. Each attempt builds on the last so students would not have to re-enter their answers for each submission. The submission with the highest score will be kept. Students should do the quiz individually. Handwritten Submission The handwritten submission must contain a full record of calculations similar to that in every engineering office and should be done individually. In order to present the calculations in a professional manner, the submission should: - Have fully completed cover sheet (The copy can be downloaded from L:\CoverSheets). - Be neat, tidy, and legible. - Be written on engineering paper. - Have fully completed title blocks on each page. - Sufficient information on the problem should be written prior to solving it. - Equal signs should line up down each page. - Long lines (e.g. square root signs, division lines) should be drawn with a ruler. - Figures/graphs should be drawn where appropriate, and graph axes should be labelled (with units included unless parameter has no units). - Comments/conclusions should be made in the right-hand column. If the engineering paper you are using does not contain a right-hand column, dedicate the right-most 3- 4 columns to state your conclusions. Marking Marking of the assignment will be performed in the following manner: - If no hand-written submission was submitted, or if the submission was of poor quality (students must score at least 5/10 on hand-written submissions), then the score is zero. - If there is full written submission, then: i) 80% of the score will be based on the LEARN online quiz, and ii) 20% of the score will be based on the presentation and completeness of the hand-written submissions.

    ENCI425 ASSIGNMENT ASSESSMENT INFORMATION

It is our aim that students learn from the material given in this class. One method of enhancing

learning is to provide immediate feedback on the assignment which allows students to check

and correct their solutions prior to submitting them. This can be done to some extent using

LEARN. In addition to this, it is also important that students learn to present their calculations

in a tidy and neat manner, much like that in actual engineering practice, so that others can

follow their work. This is an essential habit in all forms of engineering, and one which we hope

to help you to build in preparation for the years ahead after you finish your undergraduate

studies. In order to fulfil these aims, the assignment will be assessed in two components:

    i) LEARN online quizzes.

ii) A full set of calculations presented in a hand-written form.

    LEARN quizzes

An online quiz will be activated on LEARN for the duration of each assignment. Each quiz

will contain questions related to the assignment, such as requesting key values of intermediate

steps or asking multiple choice questions. Numerical solutions are accepted within a specified

tolerance (usually between 0.5-1%). Students are able to reattempt the quiz an infinite number

of times until the time the assignment is due. Each attempt builds on the last so students would

not have to re-enter their answers for each submission. The submission with the highest score

will be kept. Students should do the quiz individually.

    Handwritten Submission

The handwritten submission must contain a full record of calculations similar to that in every

engineering office and should be done individually. In order to present the calculations in a

    professional manner, the submission should:

    - Have fully completed cover sheet (The copy can be downloaded from L:\CoverSheets).

- Figures/graphs should be drawn where appropriate, and graph axes should be labelled

(with units included unless parameter has no units).

    - Comments/conclusions should be made in the right-hand column. If the engineering paper you are using does not contain a right-hand column, dedicate the right-most 3-

4 columns to state your conclusions.

    Marking

Marking of the assignment will be performed in the following manner:

    - If no hand-written submission was submitted, or if the submission was of poor quality (students must score at least 5/10 on hand-written submissions), then the score is zero.

    - If there is full written submission, then: i) 80% of the score will be based on the LEARN online quiz, and ii) 20% of the score will be based on the presentation and completeness of the

    hand-written submissions.
