technology. EncapSulite® Sticklights are used worldwide from Chicago, New

York, Las Vegas to London in applications such as Broadway and Las Vegas

stage shows, trade show displays, point of purchase displays, restaurants,

casinos, nightclubs, and office buildings.The use of the lights is only limited

Warranty Fluorescent Safety Coated LampsEncapSulite® International’s UltraGuard "FEP" fluorescent safety coating is guaranteed for thepublished rated life of the lamp as listed on the lamp manufacturers website or lamp catalog. Ifthe coating should turn yellow, crack, or otherwise fail before the end of the rated life of thelamp, EncapSulite® will refund the full purchase price as shown on the invoice subject to the fol-lowing conditions. Lamps may be used in open or closed "vapor tight" fixtures. TheUltraGuard safety coating is for use with T5 / T5HO & long-life 24,000 hour plus T8 lamps.

• The lamps must be used in ambient temperatures below 200° F.• UltraGuard coated lamps must not be used with defective ballasts or fixtures with

defective wiring. UltraGuard safety coated lamps may be used with low, normal orhigh power factor ballasts.

• UltraGuard lamps must be used with lampholders that provide adequate contact.• UltraGuard lamps must be used with the proper type of ballast to match the lamp type.• Warranty does not cover lamps used with motion-sensor systems or dimming ballasts.• EncapSulite® International reserves the right to inspect the site where a lamp safety

coating failed.• This warranty does not apply if the merchandise has been damaged by accident, misuse,

application beyond that stated. No other warranty is expressed or implied. EncapSulite®

International is not liable for consequential damage or costs.

Encapsulite UltraGuard "FEP" Teflon High Performance Safety CoatingCost effective - the coating is guaranteed for the rated life of the fluorescent lamp. Do not befooled by imitators using other plastics that cannot take the heat and the UV. Ask for a writtensafety coating guarantee for the rated life of the lamp in a closed fixture.The high mechanicalstrength safety coating is clear and tough - reduces light output by less than 1% and is a minimumof 10-mils thick. Encapsulite ProGuard PC Fluorescent Safety CoatingAll EncapSulite® safety coated lamps satisfy the criteria of having a non-shattering covering for pre-vention of glass in your product by containment within the safety coating material.The safety lampmust be intact, or the safety lamp must be replaced to be in compliance.The on-site inspector willrequire correction if the safety lamps are installed improperly, or not maintained properly.

In addition to containing all the glass, phosphors and mercury in case the lamp is accidentallydropped or broken, the ProGuard coating also blocks all UV emissions from 100 to 380nanometers.

EncapSulite® International's shatterproof safety coatings are the leader

in the lighting industry. The only safety coating UL Recognized for Safety

and UL-EPH certified for environmental and public health. ShardGuard

safety coated fluorescent lamps are acceptable for incidental food contact in

federally inspected food, meat and poultry plants. The chemical constituents

of the product and surface characteristics of the EncapSulite® Safety Coating

are in compliance and meet current FDA, USDA and OSHA standards.

Warranty Fluorescent Safety Coated LampsEncapSulite® International’s ProGuard PC fluorescent safety coating is guaranteed for one yearfrom the date of sale. EncapSulite® will refund the prorated purchase price adjusted to theinvoice subject to the following conditions. ProGuard PC fluorescent safety coated lampsmust be used in open fixtures only. Not for use in enclosed fixtures, vapor tight,waterproof or IP65 troffers.

• The lamps must be used in ambient temperatures below 135° F.• The ProGuard safety coating is not for use with T5HO lamps.• The ProGuard safety coating is not for use with T8 lamps with a rated life in excess

of 24,000 hours. ProGuard coated lamps must not be used with defective ballasts orfixtures with defective wiring.

• ProGuard safety coated lamps must be used with low or normal power factor ballasts.• ProGuard safety coated lamps must not be used high power factor ballasts.• ProGuard lamps must be used with lampholders that provide adequate contact.• ProGuard lamps must be used with the proper type of ballast to match the lamp type.• The warranty does not cover lamps used with motion-sensor systems or dimming

handling and processing. EncapSulite® safelights provide an overall shadow

less illumination causing less eyestrain and a better working environment.

Why EncapSulite Fluorescent Safelights?They provide an overall and shadow free illumination causing less eyestrain and consequently abetter working environment.The "fade-free" filters are designed for long life. EncapSulite® filters are subject to a 10,000 hour accelerated ultra violet ageing test to verify the dyes are "fade-free." In the unlikely event of tube breakage, the EncapSulite shield is designed to contain the glass fragments and protect personnel and valuable equipment.

The special polyester filters, coated both sides for safety are enclosed within the polycarbonatesleeve and control the light source to very precise margins, giving maximum illumination levels anda generous safe handling time. EncapSulite's® proprietary filters have been formulated to exactlymatch the color sensitivity of the photographic products. EncapSulite Safelights use standard white fluorescent lamps.

What is safe handling time?This varies from 3 minutes for Scanner film to 15 minutes to Slow Ortho-chromatic products.Film and paper sensitivity has increased dramatically over recent years. Lamp DimensionsBulb designations consist of a letter or letters to indicate the approximate diameter in eights of a inch.

Maximum Overall Length (MOL) is measured from the top of the bulb to bottom of the base.

Nominal LengthA measurement of fluorescent lamp length based on the length of the lamp plus the proper allowancefor standard lamp holders.

Inches to Metric ConversionTo calculate the metric equivalent of inches in millimeters (mm) use the following formula:inches x 25.4001 = millimeters.

Glossary of Terms

CandlepowerA term used for the luminous intensity of a light source.The intensity in anyone direction from thestandard candle is called one candela (formerly one candlepower; cpl).

Color Rendering Index (CRI)A measurement of the color shift an object undergoes when illuminated by the light source, ascompared to a reference source at the same color temperature. Color rendering is measured onan index from 0-100, with natural daylight and incandescent lighting both equal to 100. Objects andpeople viewed under lamps with a high color rendering index (CRI) appear more true to life.

Color TemperatureThe chromaticity of an ideal "black body" when it is heated to a specific temperature in Kelvin (K).It is the measure of the color of light, not actual temperature.

FootcandleA unit used in measuring direct illumination. It is defined as the illumination produced from asource of one candela at a point on a surface of one foot away and perpendicular to the sourceof light. One lumen per square foot.

IlluminationThe result of the use of light, illuminance, the density ofluminous flux on a surface, is usually mea-sured in footcandles.

Instant StartA circuit used to start specially-designed fluorescent lamps without the aid of a starter.The circuitutilizes higher open circuit voltage than is required for the same length preheat lamps, to strike thearc instantly.This circuit is used today in slimline and cold cathode lamps. Instant start 40-watt bipinlamps are made with a short circuiting device built into the base.





Kilowatt (KW)A larger unit of power, a thousand watts (watts x 1000 kilowatts).

Kilowatt Hour (KWH)The measure of electrical usage from which electricity billing is determined. For example, a 100-wattbulb operated for 1000 hours would consume 100 kilowatt hours, (100 watt x 1000 hours = 100KWH).At a billing rate of $0.10/KWH, this bulb would cost $10.00 (100 KWH x $0.10/KWH) tooperate.

LightThe term generally applied to the visible energy from a source. Light is usually measured in lumens orcandlepower.When light strikes a surface it is either absorbed, reflected or transmitted. Light is said totravel in straight lines.

LumenThe unit that expresses the total quantity of light given off by a source, regardless of direction.A lumenis defined as the amount of light falling on a surface of one square foot, every point of which is onefoot away from a source of one candlepower.A uniform source of one candlepower placed in asphere emits 12.57 lumens or mean spherical candela equals to 12.57 lumens.

Lumens Per Watt (LPW)A measure of the efficacy of a light source in terms of the light produced for the power consumed.For example, a 100-watt lamps producing 1750 lumens gives 17.5 lumens per watt.

Luminance or BrightnessThe light emitted, transmitted or reflected from a unit area of the source of surface is its brightness.It is usually expressed in candles per square inch or Lamberts or foot Lamberts.

PreheatA circuit used in fluorescent lamps where the electrodes are heated or warmed to a glow stage,by an auxiliary switch or starter (can be a glow switch, thermal type or mechanical device like apush button) before the lamps are lighted.This system was used on the original fluorescent lampsand is still in use today.

Rapid StartA circuit designed to start lamps by continuously heating or preheating the electrodes.This circuitis a modern version of the trigger start system and requires lamps designed for this circuit. In therapid start two-lamp circuit, one end of each lamp is connected to a separate starting winding.Theother end of each lamp is connected to a common winding. Except for slimline lamps, all modernfixtures using 40-watt and higher lamps are equipped with rapid start ballasts.

Rated Average LifeThe operating life (hours) at which 50% of the lamps are still operating.Where a plus (+) is used instarting the life, survival rate is 67% at the started time.

Trigger StartA circuit used to eliminate the starter and start the preheat lamp almost instantly. In this circuit, eachelectrode is connected to a separate winding in the ballasts so that the electrode is continuouslyheated.This circuit is primarily used on a 20-watt and lower wattage fluorescent lamps today.

Voltage (V or E)A measurement of electromotive force or the pressure of electricity.This is analogous to the pressurein a water line; i.e. pounds per square inch.The voltage of a circuit is the electrical pressure it gives. Inan incandescent lamp "voltage" designates the supply voltage to which the lamps should be connected.In other lamp types, it may refer to "operating voltage" of a lighted arc discharge lamp.

Watt (W)Unit used to measure power consumption of a lamp.

General Description of Material: "These plastic tubing's are safety-coated over fluorescent lamps in order to prevent the release of glassshards in case of impact. It is intended for indoor use only.

UL Marking: UL EPH Classified "NSF Criteria C-2 or FDA Food Code, Chapter 4.

Engineering Considerations - (1) The product is identified in accordance with Marking given above. (2) The lamp tubing was evaluated for UL 94HBflammability test. Samples of the plastic tubing installed onto fluorescent lamp were subjected to this test. (3) The lamp tubing was subjected to a 0.75ft-lb impact test per UL 471 - Eighth Edition. Paragraph 21.4.

The engineer must consider need to investigate the part for other than flammability and impact such as electrical or mechanical properties, inaccordance with applicable UL end-product standard or requirements outlined in the Standard for Polymeric Materials - Use in ElectricalEquipment Evaluations. UL 746C.
