KGS – Kitchen Grease Sensor
Grease Sensor
What is the Duct Monitoring and Safety System (KGS)?
• A signaling device that monitors the grease deposition levels in all monitored duck work and hood exhaust plenums.
• Once the level of grease exceeds the set point threshold an alarm is displayed on the system console alerting the operator that the ductwork needs to be cleaned based on NFPA96 guidelines.
• Provides an indication whether the cleaning was done satisfactorily.• System consists of one or more panels containing the controls and
a display console; grease sensors located in the exhaust plenum of a hood and the exhaust ducts.
• Compatible for use with new or existing ductwork

Grease Sensor Assembly•UL710 / ULC S646•Covers grease penetration in ductwork•Label will be stamped to the outer surface of the the reflector
KGS Duct Safety Monitoring System•ETL listed to UL 2017 general purpose signaling device and systems•Covers system as a whole•There is no label as each part follows individual certification markings

Sensors
Active sensors will remain a steady light when no alarms are active.

Active Sensor Alarm Light
If Active Sensor Alarm Light is on, this indicates that there is a problem with an actual sensor.

Cleaning Due
If Cleaning Due Alarm light is solid red, then cleaning is required. Once the Cleaning Due Button is pressed, all active sensors that require cleaning will begin to flash green.

Installation• From design layout, locate each grease sensor and drill a 18mm hole in the duct
work.
– Location should be in the vertical section of the ductwork. If you have to put in horizontal sections in the ductwork, avoid the bottom area.
– If access panels are not available, you may need to cut an opening in the ductwork to accommodate a UL listed access panel
• Locate and position Master Control Panel and the Slave and/or Remote Display if equipped. Keep in mind that the distance between the sensors and/or Master/Slave can not exceed 100 ft. The maximum distance between the Master, Slave, and/or Remote Display Panel is 300 ft.
• Run and connect each grease sensor cable to the panel. Each sensor will be labeled to match terminal location in panel
• Connect 120V power to the panel
• Test system for power as well as ensuring that each sensor is online

Service and Maintenance
• The KGS system should only be cleaned when the entire duct system is cleaned. Always inspect at cleaning each grease sensor and insure reflective surface and lens are clean. When cleaning, do not use steel wool or other abrasive materials that would scratch the reflective material or lens.
• The KGS system must be inspected after each 12 months of service. To schedule inspection, contact your authorized service agent or consult the factory for additional details.
• The grease sensors have a typical life span of three years. After three years, the grease sensors must be replaced. For replacements, contact your authorized service agent or consult the factory for additional details .
