IPL 8500 features the proprietary RPL™ technology (Re-active Pulsed Light).IPL 8500 is intended for home use environment.

RPL (Reactive Pulsed Light)™ technology - How does it workThe IPL 8500 is based on the scientific principle of select-ive photothermolysis.RPL™ (Reactive Pulsed Light) advanced technology uses IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology along with a combina-tion of unique skin condition sensors. The light penetrates the epidermis to the dermis and is absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft. The heat generated by the absorbed light then dissipates into the follicle and generates local thermal damage, causing a reduction in hair growth.

Long-term hair reduction – Hair growth cycleTwo factors play an important role in optimal long-term hair reduction:• Hair growth cycle involves three phases: Anagen, Cata-

gen, and Telogen. Anagen is the growth phase, while Catagen and Telogen are the resting phases. Permanent hair reduction can only occur during the Anagen phase.

• Skin types (according to the Fitzpatrick scale) are illus-trated on the diagram below: Darker skin contains more melanin, which competes with the targeted hair for energy light absorption. When more light energy is ab-sorbed into the skin, there is a greater risk of adverse effects, and the epidermis may be damaged.

Please make sure to carefully read this user guide before you start treating with IPL 8500.

2. Who should use the IPL 8500 and how to decide to use IPL 8500

• IPL 8500 is intended for women and men who desire to reduce unwanted hair.

• IPL 8500 is intended for use on entire body (e.g. legs, arms, underarms, bikini line, back, shoulders and chest) and allowed facial areas (e.g. above upper lip, cheek, jaw, chin and neck).

• IPL 8500 is intended for use on skin tone type I to IV ac-cording to Fitzpatrick skin chart below.

XThe use of IPL 8500 on naturally dark skin is forbidden.

IPL 8500 works best on dark hair or hair that contains more melanin. Brown and light brown hair will respond, but typ-ically will require more treatment sessions. Red hair may show some response. White, grey or blond hair shows a more limited response. Nevertheless, some users have noted hair reduction after multiple treatment sessions.

Never use IPL 8500 around or near your eyes.

Note: IPL 8500 is especially designed for your own per-sonal treatment! It is intended for a single user only.

3. BenefitsSafety! With IPL 8500, your skin is in good hands.

IPL 8500 is based on RPL technology, including an auto-matic built-in skin color sensor that is designed to provide

you with complete safety and reassurance. The sensor con-tinually evaluates your skin tone and allows IPL 8500 to perform only on suitable areas. This smart safety feature automatically disables treatment if your skin is too dark or too tanned. As an extra precaution, the IPL 8500 has been designed to only emit a light pulse when it is in contact with your skin.

Convenience! The IPL 8500 can be operated in two treat-ment modes:• Pulse mode: ideal for initial device usage or for small or

curvy areas such as the knees, underarms and bikini line. Each press on the trigger button will release a pulse to the treatment area (the trigger button may be hold con-tinuously or pressed repeatedly).

• Trigger-less mode: perfect for large areas, such as the back and legs. After holding the trigger button until three consecutive pulses are released, or by pressing the “trig-ger-less mode” button ( ) the device will automatic-ally enter trigger-less mode. In this mode consecutive pulses will be released without the need to press the trigger button.

Chargeable! The IPL 8500 has a rechargeable battery. After charging your device, you can use it as cordless and enjoy a more flexible and convenient treatment.

Versatility! The IPL 8500 includes an additional precise treatment area window, especially designed for more ef-fective usage, allowing more precise treatments at differ-ent body areas.

Effective! For permanent reduction in hair regrowth, defined as a long-term, stable reduction in hair regrow when meas-ured at 6, 9, and 12 months you should follow treatment regimen. With the clinically proven IPL technology you may see some improvement already in 3-4 weeks, when using the device according to the recommended treatment proto-col described in this User Guide (see page 28). The hair will continue to grow up to two weeks after a hair reduction session. However, thereafter as the hair grows in three different stages it will naturally and gradually fall out, depending on the hair growth stage in during which the treatment was done (only hairs in the active growth phase will be affected). Some hair may not be affected by the IPL 8500 because of the different hair growth phases.

Response to IPL 8500 hair reduction differs between indi-viduals depending on biological factors and how closely treatment instructions are followed.

Note: Hair removal by lasers or intense pulse light sources can cause increased hair growth in some individuals. Based upon currently available data, the highest risk groups for this response are females of Mediterranean, Middle East-ern, and South Asian heritage treated on the face and neck.

4. Who should NOT use the IPL 8500?

IPL 8500 is designed especially for you, to be used over normal, healthy and intact skin, for both safe and effect-ive treatment. However, IPL 8500 is not appropriate for everyone. Please read the information below before use. If you still have any doubts, and you are unsure that the IPL 8500 is safe for your use, please consult with your per-sonal physician.

5. Possible Adverse ReactionsWhen using IPL 8500 device according to the instructions for use, adverse reactions are rare. However, every aesthetic procedure, including the usage of home-use devices, may cause some degree of adverse reactions (as listed in the table below). The possible adverse reactions are temporary, rare, and resolve spontaneously within few hours or days. In case adverse reactions appear, stop using the IPL 8500 device. Please consult your physician if necessary.

Degree of Side Effects Side Effects

MinorSide-Effects

Skin IrritationSkin RednessSkin Sensitivity

RareSide-Effects

Skin BurnsScarringPigment ChangesExcessive Redness and Swelling

Extremely Rare Side-Effects InfectionBruising

For your convenience, additional explana-tions are given below. Skin Irritation• The use of Pulsed Light Hair Removal System is gener-

ally very well-tolerated, the majority of users do feel a sensation of warmth and a mild stinging sensation dur-ing treatment or a few minutes after. Anything beyond this skin irritation – discomfort is abnormal and means that either the energy level is too high, or you shouldn’t continue using the IPL 8500 as you are unable to toler-ate the hair reduction application.

Skin Redness• Redness on the treated area may appear right after using

the application or within 24 hours of using the IPL 8500. Consult your physician in case the redness does not dis-appear within 2 to 3 days.

Skin Sensitivity• You may feel that your skin in the treated area is more

sensitive so you may encounter dryness or flaking of the skin.

Skin Burns• Rarely, burns on the treated area can occur following the

use of the hair removal system. The burns can require

Page 10: EN IPL 8500 Instructions for use 3 - Beurer PIM · 2020. 2. 26. · cohol) or acetone to clean the skin one hour before using IPL 8500 as it may cause burning of the skin. • Do

10

a few weeks to heal and, extremely rarely, may leave a visible permanent scar.

Scarring• In rare cases, permanent scarring may occur. Usually

when scarring occurs it is in the form of a flat and white lesion on the skin (hypotrophic). However, it can be large and red (hypertrophic) or large and extend beyond the margins of the injury itself (keloid). Subsequent aesthet-ic treatments may be required to improve the appear-ance of the scar.

Pigment Changes • Use of the IPL 8500 may cause temporary skin hyper-

pigmentation (increased pigment or brown discoloration) or hypopigmentation (whitening) to the surrounding skin. The risk is higher for people with darker skin tones. Usu-ally discoloration or changes to skin pigment are tempor-ary and permanent hyperpigmentation or hypopigmen-tation rarely occur.

Excessive Redness and Swelling• Very rarely, the treated area skin may become very red

and swollen. This side effect is very common in sensi-tive areas of the body. The redness and swelling should be decreased after 2 to 7 days and you should treat the area by applying ice. You should avoid exposure to sun.

Infection• In rare cases, infection of the skin is a possible risk fol-

lowing a skin burns caused by the application.Bruising• Blue-purple bruising is exceedingly rare by using the IPL

8500 and can last 5 to 10 days. As the bruising fades, there may be a rust-brown discoloration of the skin (hyperpigmentation) that can be permanent.

Device is permanent-ly blocked, the lamp has reached its maximum flash limit or internal malfunc-tion has been occurred or the treatment area window is not properly attached to the device.

7. User InstructionsIPL 8500 is an optimal solution for all body areas such as your underarms, bikini line, arms, back, shoulders, chest, legs and allowed facial areas such as above upper lip, cheek, jaw, chin and neck.

Preliminary Test The preliminary test is intended to determine your skin’s re-action to the IPL 8500 treatment and help you set the opti-mal energy level for each treatment area. Do a preliminary test on each area you intend to treat 48 hours prior to the first full treatment. Note: Do not treat full areas with energy levels that you have not tested before!

Do not treat the tested area for at least 48 hours after the preliminary test is done.1. Set up the device as indicated in the “Step 1: Device set

up” section and prepare your skin (as described in “Step 2: Prepare your skin”).

2. Select the lowest energy level and deliver a pulse on the selected preliminary test skin area.

3. If you feel comfortable with the energy level, increase it to level 2 and perform an additional pulse on the next spot.

4. Only if you feel comfortable, you may reach the maximum energy level (6th).

5. Stop the test once you do not feel comfortable, as in-creasing the energy level increases the risk of adverse effects.

6. If you see adverse effects such as severe redness or blis-tering - stop the test immediately.

7. Wait 48 hours and examine the tested area. • If the skin in the test area seems normal (no response

or mild redness observed), you can proceed with a full treatment in the highest comfortable energy level that you tested.

• If you see extreme redness, swelling, or blistering even in the low-energy level settings, do not proceed to the full treatment in that area.

Page 15: EN IPL 8500 Instructions for use 3 - Beurer PIM · 2020. 2. 26. · cohol) or acetone to clean the skin one hour before using IPL 8500 as it may cause burning of the skin. • Do

Step 1: Device Set-Up1. Remove all components from the box (handheld device,

desired treatment window and power supply).2. Make sure the device is clean, dry, and intact. 3. Select the desired treatment window and simply snap it

onto the light exit window.Note: the device will not operate without the treatment win-dow or if the treatment window is not properly attached.

4. Charge your IPL 8500 device, as necessary.• Before your first use and when the battery is empty,

fully charge the IPL 8500 battery (full charging of the battery takes up to 2.5 hours).

• Whenever battery level is low, as indicated by the blink-ing red light at the Battery status indicator, recharge your device.

• Fully charge the appliance every 3 to 4 months, even if you did not use the appliance.

• For charging your device, insert the power cord into the socket and the power supply into the wall socket. When the battery is fully charged, the charging light lights up green continuously.

• After charging, remove the power adapter from the wall socket and disconnect it from your device.

Notes: • Some warming of the device and power adaptor during

charging is normal.• Charging should be done in a room temperature or cool

environment, never above 104°F (40°C). The device is equipped with battery-overheat protection and will not charge if the room temperature exceeds 104°F (40°C).

• Never cover the appliance and the adapter during char-ging.

• You can use the device while it is being charged. This may allow you limited number of pulses since battery charging is slower then battery consump-tion during use.

The IPL 8500 is now ready to be used.

Step 2: Prepare your skin1. Remove all jewelries from treatment area.2. Make sure your skin at the treatment area is shaved or

trimmed and cleaned from any residue such as pow-ders, creams, makeup, antiperspirants or deodorants.

3. Between treatments, you can shave but don’t wax or pluck hair.

4. Never use flammable liquids such as alcohol (including perfumes, sanitizers, or other applications containing al-

Page 16: EN IPL 8500 Instructions for use 3 - Beurer PIM · 2020. 2. 26. · cohol) or acetone to clean the skin one hour before using IPL 8500 as it may cause burning of the skin. • Do

cohol) or acetone to clean the skin one hour before using the device as it may cause burning of the skin.

5. Do a preliminary test on a small patch of skin in the in-tended treatment area, 48 hours prior to first use of the IPL 8500 to determine energy level settings for your treat-ment (as depicted in the preliminary test section).

Important: Do not use any cream or gel while using the device since it may dirt your device and prevent its nor-mal operation.Remember: The IPL 8500 comes with a built-in skin-tone sensor, enabling the application only on a suitable skin tone. This unique safety feature will not let you treat areas where your skin is too dark or too tanned, even if your general skin type is lighter.

Step 3: Device operationNote: A preliminary test should be conducted before pro-ceeding to a full treatment. See “preliminary test” section above.1. Prepare your skin (see step 2).2. To turn the IPL 8500 device on, press the ON/OFF but-

ton ( ). Energy level 1 green indicator will light on. The device sets itself on the lowest energy level—level 1. For

other energy levels press the increase energy level but-ton (+) or decrease energy level button (-).

3. You may decrease or increase the energy level accord-ing to your convenience (to reach the level determined in the preliminary test section). The energy level indica-tor lights will light up green according to the selected energy level, one green light for energy level 1, two lights for energy level 2, etc.

4. Place the IPL 8500 treatment window on the desired body area with full contact with the skin. • If IPL 8500 is not properly applied, the status indicator

will be “momentary” orange. • If your skin tone is too dark/ tanned, the status indicator

will be “momentary” red. In these cases, the IPL 8500 will not trigger a pulse in that area of skin.

5. Press the device window gently against your skin to be treated to ensure proper contact and use the trigger but-ton to release a pulse (make sure all treatment window is in contact with the skin). Start moving the device with each pulse to the next spot, while the device is detached or not with your skin, according to your comfort. When the pulse will be released, you will see a bright flash, you will hear a popping noise, and you may feel a mild sting-ing and/or heat sensation. After each pulse, the device will immediately recharge and will be ready for the next

pulse. You may choose from 2 treatment modes, either the ‘pulse mode’ or the ‘trigger-less mode’:

a. Pulse mode: Press the trigger button once for release of a pulse to the treatment area. After moving to the next spot to be treated, press the trigger button again to release another pulse. The trigger button may be either pressed or continuously held.

b. Trigger-less mode (glide mode): Begin treatment in the ‘pulse mode’. After three consecutive pulses without releasing the trigger button are released, or after pressing the trigger-less button, the device will automatically enter into the trigger-less mode and al-low continuous consecutive pulses release without the need to press or hold the trigger button. In trig-ger-less mode, the device will automatically deliver a pulse (without holding the trigger button) when a pulse is ready (1-3 seconds after the previous pulse) and when proper skin tone and contact are detected by the skin tone and contact sensor. If activated by the trigger-less button, the glide mode can be turned off by additional press on the button or will be auto-matically turned off if the device is unused (or doesn’t have proper skin contact and skin tone detected) for a few seconds. If activated by constant press on the trigger button, the glide mode will be automatically

deactivated when the device is not in proper contact with the skin or when skin is too dark/ tanned.

6. After the treatment, turn off the device by pressing the “ON/OFF” button; an orange indicator will light up while the device is in the shutdown mode.

7. Perform treatment sessions according to the “Recom-mended treatment protocol” section.

Important notes: • Try not to overlap pulses on the same spot of skin. Re-

peated pulses on the same spot may cause burns. • Do not treat the same area of skin more than once per

treatment as it may cause skin irritation.• IPL 8500 will not trigger a pulse if: a. There is no full contact of the treatment window with

the skin b. Your skin tone is too dark or tanned

Each treatment pulse should be applied on different skin spot with no repetition or overlap. The entire treatment area (underarms, bikini line, arms, back, shoulders, chest, legs and allowed facial areas) will be determined by the user.Notes: • Response to IPL 8500 hair reduction differs between in-

dividuals, depending on their unique biological factors.• It may take up to 3-4 weeks before results of the IPL

8500 treatment can be seen. The hair will continue to grow up to two weeks after a hair reduction session. However, thereafter as the hair grows in three different stages the hairs will naturally and gradually fall out de-pending on the hair growth stage in during which the treatment was done (only hairs in the active growth phase will be affected). Some hair may not be affect-ed by the IPL 8500 because of the different hair growth phases. To remove this hair multiple treatment sessions are required to reach the desired result.

• The number of sessions required for achieving long term results is different for every treatment area and changing for every user, as it is affected by type of skin, hair and hormonal changes.

• Red hair may show some response. White, grey or blond hair shows a more limited response. Nevertheless, some

users have noted hair reduction after multiple treatment sessions.

• IPL 8500 is suitable for men. However male body hair, especially those on the chest will require more hair re-duction sessions.

• Maintenance will be needed from time to time if growth is still visible.

• You may use the treatment log at the end of this manual, in order to assist you with recording your specific treat-ments areas, dates and duration.

What to expect when using IPL 8500During your hair removal treatment it is normal to experi-ence:• A flash of light on each press of the trigger button. The

light will not harm the eyes. • A pop noise with each pulse – occurs whenever a pulse

is activated.• A sensation of warmth – radiates from the light energy

after each pulse.• A mild stinging sensation – can be felt, similar to being

snapped with a rubber band. Some mild red or pink color may appear during or just after using the IPL 8500.

Step 4: Cleaning & Storage1. Make sure to turn off and unplug unit before cleaning.2. It is recommended that the treatment window area will be

cleaned after every session by using a dry, clean cloth to gently wipe the device.

3. Keep the device dry. Never place, store or use IPL 8500 near bathtubs, showers, basins or other vessels con-taining water as this may cause severe electrocution.

4. If you do not plan on using your IPL 8500 for a long period of time, it is recommended to keep it clean and stored.

5. If you plan to travel and take your IPL 8500 with you, you should store it in the original box and follow this section.

8. Post treatment care• Apply a calming lotion such as Aloe Vera.• Avoid using peeling and bleaching creams or similar

products for at least 24 hours, as this irritates the treat-ed skin.

• Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks post treat-ment. If recently treated skin is exposed to sunlight in this time period, make sure to apply SPF 30 or higher sunscreen.

• Do not wax or pluck hairs from treated areas between treatment sessions.

9. Troubleshooting• If you experience any problems with the IPL 8500, please

refer to below information to try to resolve it.• If the IPL 8500 does not turn on, make sure that the de-

vice is charged (as indicated by the green light at the battery status indicator).

• If IPL 8500 does not trigger a pulse:a. the treatment window is properly attached to your de-

vice (the device will not be operable if the treatment window is not attached or not properly attached to the device.

b. the device did not automatically exit trigger-less mode after proper contact and skin tone were not detected.

c. there is full contact with the skin. The trigger button will activate a flash pulse only when the device is in full contact with the skin.

d. the area you are trying to treat is not too small, curved or bony to treat. You should get the whole treatment window to touch the treatment area (try to pull the skin flat).

e. if the skin color level identified by IPL 8500 is too dark, the flash activation will be blocked. This situation is indicated by a “momentary” red light on the device.

NOTE 1 At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the higher frequency range applies.NOTE 2 These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by absorption and reflection from structures,

objects and people.a Field strengths from fixed transmitters, such as base stations for radio (cellular/cordless) telephones and land mobile radios, amateur radio, AM

and FM radio broadcast and TV broadcast cannot be predicted theoretically with accuracy. To assess the electromagnetic environment due to fixed RF transmitters, an electromagnetic site survey should be considered. If the measured field strength in the location in which the device is used exceeds the applicable RF compliance level above, the device should be observed to verify normal operation. If abnormal performance is observed, additional measures may be necessary, such as re-orienting or relocating the device.

b Over the frequency range 150 kHz to 80 MHz, field strengths should be less than 3 V/m.
