CHOICES

Since Latasha and I started Best of the Batch Foundation in 1999, we’ve touched the lives
of thousands of young people, educating, encouraging and preparing them to choose excellence in all phases of their lives. During that time, we’ve been blessed and fortunate to
work with many of this city’s most generous and caring businesses, organizations and individuals.
Today, we’re thrilled to take Best of the Batch Foundation to the next level and once again seek your generosity and partnership in our continuous efforts to uplift community kids.
Through our capital campaign “Building the Best,” we’re seeking to raise $10 million to build and sustain
a new 15,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art education center on our current Clubhouse site in
Homestead. As you’ll see, there are numerous opportunities for you or your organization to support this endeavor and
have a high-impact, high-visibility presence in the lives of so many children.
We hope that we can count on your continued support in helping our young people choose to be the best of the batch throughout their lives.

Mentorship ProgramsOne-on-one mentoring has been a
trademark of the Foundation, motivating
students to achieve leadership skills and self-
discipline, complete high school and seek
college degrees… thus, breaking cycles and
creating new generations of productive and
engaged citizens.
Alternative SchoolThe Foundation provides space for the Steel
Valley Alternative Education Program for
middle- and high-school students who struggle
with a traditional classroom environment.
This allows the school to continue to monitor
students’ progress and develop customized
plans to best transition them back into school.
Making Back- to-School a Little EasierEach year, the
BatchPacks program
helps families face the
financial challenges associated with back-to-
school preparations. We’ve distributed more
than 14,000 BatchPacks filled with basic school
supplies for kids, and have expanded the
program to include essentials for teachers.
Global Youth EffortsBy engaging administrators, teachers,
students and parents in anti-bullying and
positive behavior advocacy, the Dignity &
Respect Sportsmanship Program brings
youth together through shared experiences.
Our global webcast unites more than two
dozen local schools with schools in Ireland
and South Africa.

Based at the Clubhouse, all our programs stem from our commitment to supporting community kids in all aspects of their lives, providing a place to go, an ear to listen and the guidance to help them see—and work toward—the greater potential in themselves.
Going Beyond AthleticsOur summer programs provide skills to
more than 400 student-athletes to develop
both physically and academically. They are
inspired to achieve their personal best.
In addition to academic development,
self-esteem and confidence, the students
learn the importance of maintaining a
healthy lifestyle through health and wellness
programs. Over a 12-week period, Next Level
Athletics allows young athletes to compete
around the country and advance to the
USATF Junior Olympics. Each year, Project
C.H.U.C.K. engages kids in summer reading
while taking part in structured sports and
teamwork.
Each year, our Batch-A-Toys program distributes
donated toys and household essentials to help 100 local
families celebrate the holiday season. Identified through
partnerships with local organizations, these families are
visited by Charlie and Tasha on Christmas Eve.

Best of the Batch Foundation is an educational organization that provides year-round programming for more than 3,200 K–12 children in 6 counties in Western Pennsylvania.
Our mission—and our passion—is to
provide financially challenged youth and
their families with the purpose, desire and
resources to give their best efforts in all
they do… to be the “best of the batch.”
Located in the heart of the Mon Valley, Best
of the Batch Foundation’s showcase is the
Clubhouse, where the majority of the day-
to-day programming takes place. When one
imagines a Clubhouse, it brings to mind a place
where you can hang out, feel safe and have
fun. Our Clubhouse is all of those things for
neighborhood children from pre-K through
college-age students, but it adds the critical
element of education. It’s where kids from
22 different school districts come together to
build educational, social and life skills.
IS OUR GOAL in this capital campaign. We need your generous support to reach this goal and build a community Clubhouse we can all be proud of for generations to come.
$10,000,000
As both our programs and the number of
children we serve have grown, the Clubhouse
can no longer meet the needs of all our
kids, families and volunteers. But we have a
vision… a vision that will take the Foundation
into the future.

THE CLUBHOUSE IS GROWING
Our GoalBest of the Batch Foundation is planning to build a new state-
of-the-art educational facility with a greatly increased footprint:
15,000 square feet, or six times the size of our current building.
Please make a long-term investment in the community and
help us reach our goal of $10 million, which covers the capital,
programming and endowment for the Foundation’s programs.
Naming OpportunitiesCharlie’s professional football career took him far from his
hometown of Homestead, Pennsylvania. But he and Tasha
believed in their vision to, one day, return and make a
difference in the lives of area kids. Today, as recognized
community leaders, they are confident in their mission and
that the best is yet to come.
Consider partnering and linking your name with Best of the
Batch Foundation. Make a permanent testimony to their vision,
while making a lasting, positive impact on the lives of thousands
of area children.

DO NOT GO WHERE THE PATH MAY LEAD, GO WHERE THERE IS NO PATH AND LEAVE A TRAIL. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Your support will help shape a generation of children to become the “best of the batch.”
Founded in 1999 by former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch and his wife Latasha,
Best of the Batch Foundation provides year-round educational programming for more than
3,200 children across 22 school districts in six Western Pennsylvania counties.
Our goal is to provide financially challenged youth and their families with the purpose, desire and
resources to give their best efforts in all they do throughout their lives.
By developing after-school programs, awarding scholarships to students, restoring playgrounds
and offering sports and leisure activities, we show our commitment to the success of all our youth
and their families. The encouragement and involvement of the community stimulates that success.
