Election 2013

The Board of Governors is constituted and estab-lished of nine members of the Club. All Gover-nors are elected from the membership by a ma-jority of the members voting. Governors serve two 1-year terms. There are four positions available this year, all candidates who wish to be considered for the 2013 Board of Governors are encouraged to submit a biography and photograph by February 25, 2013. Please submit to Kelly in the Club Ad-ministration office. The slate of candidates will then be promoted on the website & in the newsletter next month. Vot-ing will be held throughout the month of March. Completed ballots can be 1) dropped off in the election box at the Athletic Service Desk or 2) mailed to the Club, Attn: Board Election.

Santiago

Sanchez

An employee since 1990, Santiago always has a smile and a helping hand for everyone he meets. He

works very hard behind the scenes in the F&B back of house, and engendered so much support among the staff that works with and around him that this year’s vote for employee of the year was nearly unanimous in his favor!

Santiago (age 65) has been married to the love of his life Maria for 15 years. They have four chil-dren, two girls and two boys. In his free time, he likes to go dancing and enjoys drinking all types of beer. He takes public transportation every day to the club and says he enjoys everything he does here and that everyone he works with is his friend!

Club Updates Personnel Changes: The Club is pleased to announce the promotion of Michelle Pinedo to the position of Director of Club Pro-grams. Michelle has been the Club’s Youth Activities Director for over 4 years and spearheaded growth in all Youth Programs. Michelle will now be applying her strong programming, recruiting and organizational ap-proach to Club Activities in each of the core departments of Youth, Aquatics, Fitness and Tennis & Racquet Sports. The Director of Club Programs is responsible for oversight and management of all program department supervisors, assuring a high standard of training, professionalism, safety and member service; proactively seek-ing new programming opportunities and managing the allocation of Club facilities & resources to maximize member satisfaction and program participation. Michelle will work hand in hand with the various department managers and Board of Governors’ Committees to bring the best possible programs to Club members and make the most of the Club resources year round. In concert with Michelle’s promotion, Miss Katie Freidrich, lead teacher of the SHARP program will assume full responsibility for the Preschool programs, and Megan Johnson will be taking on the Youth Coordinator Role. Katie Fredirich has a Masters degree in childhood education and received her teaching credential from the State in 2011. Megan Johnson has been with the Club Youth department since 2004, and recently received her teaching credential from the State as well. Our new wine lounge offers a calm and relaxing adults

only environment to enjoy a wine tasting at your con-

venience. The wine lounge is open from 11:30am-

11pm Monday through Friday. Speak with the hostess

to get your card to access the wine dispenser and pour

yourself a glass of one of the twelve exclusive wines on

tap.

Dress Code

We respectfully request that as a member of the

Club you make an effort to look as stylish as your

surroundings.

Tasteful attire is required in the Atrium for both

adults and children. Sleeveless tee shirts, men's

tank tops, athletic attire, bathing suits, and bare

feet are not permitted.

Tennis attire in keeping with the Club's Tennis

guidelines is permitted on the Terrace only.

From business lunches to date nights, the atrium is the

place for you to enjoy our healthful new-American

cuisine, handcrafted cocktails, and boutique wine list

in a relaxed, elegant setting. The atrium is open Mon-

day through Friday, 11:30am-2pm for lunch, and

from 5pm to 10pm for dinner. Plants, floral, candles,

and drapery are being hand selected and forthcom-

ing to soften the room & augment the ambience.

Join us for a handcrafted cocktail, glass of wine, or try

one of our great locally brewed draft beers in our

adults-only bar from 11:30am-11pm Monday

through Friday. We are open throughout the day, offering our Bar Bites menu all day.

Congratulations to the Club Men’s Open League for

winning their 8th league title!

At the 2012 USTA Junior Sectional Championships, held at the Indian Wells Tennis Center January 12th-13th, eight mem-

bers of our MCC 14-under Junior Tennis Team competed against the 15 best USTA Junior Teams, from all over Southern

California. (We played teams from Corona, San Diego and Laguna). The MCC team won its fall division title in December,

becoming eligible to participate in the USTA Championships, the first MCC Junior team to achieve that distinction. Besides

the thrill of playing at Indian Wells, (home to the BNP Paribas Open, Pro Event in March), most of our MCC team players

were competing for the first time in a tournament format. We are a young team, both in age and experience, yet our boys

and girls played their hearts out all weekend long.

Jack McMIllan(13) and Jacob Dulai (10) played singles against bigger and older players. Our doubles teams included: Jes-

sica Horwitz(13) & Jonathan Arentsen (13); AJ Silverman (13) & Thomas Winter (12); Bari Cohn (12) & Zach Eskenazi (13).

The entire team gained valuable experience and advanced their skills playing tough matches against more experienced

teams. Facing opponents who used more spin and strategy than they had previously experienced, our players learned a lot,

and are now more motivated to take their games to the next level, and to return to the USTA Sectional Championships

once again.

A big thank you to all the parents who supported the team with such enthusiasm. It was a fun weekend for all.

About the Program

The Ambassador Program is an instructional pro-

gram designed for members age 10 and 11 as of

March 1, 2013. Under Club bylaws, children un-

der the age of 12 must be supervised by an adult

at all times. This program was created to take

children through a curriculum developed to review

Club rules as well as common sense topics to en-

sure that graduates of this program conduct them-

selves properly throughout the Club.

Upon completing the program, the children will

be allowed to enjoy the Club (tennis, indoor

courts, Shrimp Pond, Napa Room) without as

much adult supervision, thus giving the child a

sense of pride and responsibility as well as privi-

leges that those who do not go through the pro-

gram do not get. Because of the additional safety

precautions with the pool, there will be a separate

pool requirement to use the pool area unsuper-

vised.

(Note: The minimum age to use the gym, exercise

room, steam room, sauna, and spa remains at 14.)
