NAADAC Minority Fellowship Program Award Recipient Erin Maroney, student in the MS, Clinical Counseling program, was recently awarded the NAADAC Minority Fellowship Program (NMFP) Award. As a NMFP award recipient, Ms. Maroney will receive additional educational workshops and mentorship toward providing counseling services to help reduce health disparities and improve healthcare outcomes for minority & LGBT populations and transition age youth (ages 16-25). She will also receive

tuition stipend award to assist with the completion of her MS in Clinical Counseling with an emphasis in addictions. Congratulations Erin on this prestigious award! 

NBCC Minority Fellowship Program Award RecipientMary Woodson, student in the MS, Clinical Counseling program, was recently awarded the NBCC Minority Fellowship Program -Master's Addictions (NBCC MFP-AC) award. As an NBCC MFP-AC recipient, Ms. Woodson has demonstrated a commitment to providing addictions treatment to underserved transition-age youth post graduation. As part of her award, Ms. Woodson has received a tuition stipend up to $11,000. Congratulations Mary on

Miniature Horses Deputized

DARS added two new members of its rehabilitative services team on Thursday, June 22 when miniature horses Gunner and Sammy were deputized by the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.

Dr. Leigh Atherton of DARS shared that the pair are part of a new collaboration between both departments and Rocking Horse Ranch, a resort on Blue Banks Road in Greenville.

This new project, known as Building Bridges, will offer therapy to individuals exposed to a variety of traumatic events. DARS will contribute clinical evaluations through the supervision of students and faculty to support the equine activities.
