CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITSPHYSICAL THERAPISTS: CEUs for PTs will be awarded through Emory’s Division of Physical Therapy.
ATHLETIC TRAINERS: BOC CEUs are approved. Emory Sports Medicine Center (BOC AP# P3345) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Athletic Trainers. This program is eligible for a maximum of 12 EBP CEUs for in-person attendance and 8 EBP CEUs for live streaming.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONThe 2020 Emory Sports Medicine Symposium is a comprehensive program that strives to bridge the gap between science and practice. The multidisciplinary faculty includes physical therapists, athletic trainers, and allied sports-health specialists. Presenting faculty include Emory Sports Medicine physicians and surgeons who are team physicians for the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Dream, Georgia Tech, Emory University and many area high schools and programs. The program also incorporates rehabilitation specialists and invited keynote speakers.
Individual practitioners and healthcare teams will learn practical strategies for improved interventions, optimal patient care and outcomes.
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVEThis symposium provides the most up-to-date information for professionals interested in the diagnosis and management, and rehabilitation of acute and chronic shoulder, knee, ankle, foot, and concussion/spine injuries. A special primary care/urgent care provider track will include topics of physical examination, management and optimum referral decisions. The most current concepts will be presented in various methods: didactic sessions, panel discussions, breakouts sessions, and personal interaction with the speakers. At the conclusion of this program, attendees will be able to:
n Increase knowledge of innovative sports non-surgical and surgical procedures that best optimize patient outcomes and return to sport;
n Explain how injury specific rehabilitation can improve patient outcomes;
n Identify and diagnose common musculoskeletal injuries including muscle and tendon injury, ligament and labral tears, and instability;
n Perform focused history and physical exam on the shoulder, spine/hip, foot/ankle and knee;
n Explain how athletes can reduce their risk of ACL and overuse injuries;
n Evaluate and formulate treatment plans and provide rehabilitation for various injuries and conditions inherent with shoulder and knee injuries;
WHO SHOULD ATTENDThis conference is intended for athletic trainers, physical therapists, physicians, nurses, physician assistants, residents, fellows and students.The dress code is business casual.
CERTIFICATES & EVALUATIONAT and PT Certificates will be available upon completion of the evaluation at the end of the conference.
CME certificates will be available upon completion of an online evaluation available after the conference.
