Emmaus Doctrinal Statement

The Aim of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip local church members for Christian action – in their homes, churches, workplaces, and communities. This aim is derived from the belief that we are to be active in our doctrinal position. Our doctrinal position is re-flected in our basic Christian affirmations which are:

♦ We confess belief in the triune of God- Father, Son and Holy Spirit; ♦ We hold faith in the mystery of salvation in and through Jesus Christ; ♦ We believe that Gods’ redemptive love is realized in human life by the activity of the Holy Spirit, both in personal experience and in the community of believers; ♦ We believe we are to be conformed to Christ; ♦ We believe the reign of God is both present and future reality; ♦ We believe the authority of Scripture; ♦ We believe our justification as sinners is by grace through faith; and ♦ We believe the church is in need of continual reformation and renewal.

Consecration Services

We have two Community Gatherings/Consecration Services a year,

one in the Spring and one in the Fall. The purpose of these is to

declare the Spring & Falls Walks holy — to give them to God.

The team dedicates their service as team members and we as a

community dedicate our service to pray for the walks, volunteer

behind the scenes, make agape gifts, and/or donate drinks and

goods for these Walks. This is a very special service with serious

dedications made to God.

The fall consecration service will be Aug. 13th. Everyone is invited

to attend. Of course, bring a heavy snack and something to drink

for the fellowship time after the service!

We look forward to seeing you at our Fall Consecration Service !!

To my Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

WOW ! What a great spring!! God was all over the camp and all 4 spring walks. I want to thank the sponsors, the teams, the community and all the people that helped behind the scenes to make the Spring Walks such a success. I would also like to thank the 2011 board for all their hard work. I know it takes a lot of time away from family, but I know that it is all worth the effort. Lastly, to the Clergy: I cannot thank you enough. Without you, so many lives could not be changed. Your dedication to the Emmaus movement is awesome. If you have not served on a team or have not served in a while, please let Brad Thie or Larry Melton know.

A few items of business to all community members:

1. Please remember the summer Picnic at camp Loy White on Saturday, July 16th at 3:00PM. Come enjoy the fellowship of your Emmanuel Emmaus Family. Bring a dessert and a drink and come join us. Also, if you play an instrument, bring it with you and share your talents. We would love for all community members to be there. 2. Read the Team Selection of this newsletter. Team selection asks that when you are called to serve on a team ( after you have come back and served behind the scenes you are eligible to serve in the conference room ) that you return the LD calls in a timely manner. This is very important for the process of building all teams for that season. If you have any questions on the requirements to serve, you can find that on the website or contact Chris Miller, Bobby Jones or myself. 3. Please come back and serve as a volunteer behind the scenes. It is the only way we can get to know each other. The blessing of having so many Godly people around is beyond any imagination. Whether you are new to the community or a seasoned member, your presence is always needed in some way or the other. I know I cannot remember all of your names, but I would dearly like to see your face and hear how you are doing and how Emmaus has changed your life. Serving on a team is such a huge blessing and you need to experience it for yourself. 4. Prayer: Please keep all the Emmanuel Emmaus members in your prayers. There are so many that are hav-ing health, family and other trials in their lives. We need to be praying for each other all the time. Now, for me. It has been a humbling and awesome experience serving as your Community Lay Director. Even at times when the situation seems cloudy, the LIGHT always takes over and brightens the day. I thank each and everyone that continues to give encouragement and let’s the light of Jesus shine through you.

Again, Thanks to all Glenn Fulbright EE CLD

From the Chrysalis Community Director

Chrysalis: Wow! Our next Chrysalis Flight will be here soon and we would love to see you come help make this an awesome weekend for the teenagers that will be attending. Please keep us in your prayers as we move forward in bringing these young people closer to God. The Girls' flight is planned for August 19-21 with Toni Smith serving as Lay Director and the Boys' flight is planned for December 30-January 1 with the Lay Director to be announced. In His Grace, Debra Nantz Emmanuel Chrysalis Community

CAMP LOY WHITE CAPITOL CAMPAIGN Most of us would agree that being at Camp Loy White (affectionately called Jesus Camp) is almost like being on sacred ground, that you can feel the presence of the Holy Spirit as soon as you begin to drive down the gravel road. For over 40 years, the camp has served as a place to renew one’s faith and to experience God. Many of us count our Emmaus Walks as one of our most important life-changing experiences. Now is the time for us to give back a little to ensure that others can also share in that same wonderful experience.

Right now the new the new multi-purpose facility (affectionately called our prayer chapel) is needing to be finished and construction is dependent on monetary donations. Won’t you join us in helping to see it reach completion? We are ask-ing every member of the Emmaus community to donate a minimum of $5.00 each to help accomplish this goal. Please be in prayer about this and allow God to lead you in your decision. Make your check out to Emmanuel Emmaus and mark it for the Prayer Chapel Fund on the memo line. Mail it to our EE treasurer at: Eric Clark 9880 Fontana Court Concord, NC. 28027

OUTREACH MISSION PROGRAM

Purpose: The purpose of the Emmanuel Emmaus Outreach Program is to reach out to Churches that have not participated in the Emmaus 72 hour weekend. The Emmanuel Emmaus Community (EEC) would present the purpose of Emmaus to churches either in Small Groups or participating in the entire Worship service. It is the wish of the EEC that no one who wishes to attend the Emmaus weekend not be allowed to attend due to financial reasons or lack of sponsorship. The EEC will give scholarships to the first 4 people from a non-participating church. If a church has had a few people to experience the weekend and cannot financially sponsor other members in their church, they can request a scholarship for 2 or more people from the EE Board. Once the church has had the members to attend the weekend, the EEC has the obligation to help organize a reunion group if needed.

Requirements: The only requirement for the scholarship is that the EEC be allowed to present the Emmaus movement to the Church either in Small Groups or as a worship service. The presentation would consist of the showing of a DVD from the Upper Room and life changing testimonies from members of the Emmanuel Emmaus Community. The length of the program is close to 30 minutes.

Clergy Support: The Emmanuel Emmaus Community is to support Clergy in the church at all times. The EEC community would fill in for the clergy in time of emergency and the need of spiritual retreats. The EEC is here to handle any worship service for the Clergy with personal testimonies from Lay Persons relating to the Emmaus Movement.

If you know of a church and would like the Outreach Mission Program to contact them to set up a presentation, please contact Glenn Fulbright or any member of the EE Community.

From the Team Selection ChairFrom the Team Selection ChairFrom the Team Selection ChairFrom the Team Selection Chair

The Team Selection committee would like to thank all those that served on teams as well as those that worked behind the scenes during the spring walks. This team’s primary function is to assemble the Conference Room team for each of the Walks. We follow certain policies from the Upper Room in regards to progressive servanthood. Please review the policy below to be considered to serve as a conference room team member: A Community member has to have worked at least two times within the past two years. After 2 years of not serving behind the scenes your name goes to the bottom of the list and after 3 years it is removed from the Behind the Scenes Worker list. If you haven’t served in the last 3 years, please come and serve behind the scenes and get your name added back to the list.

Areas to serve behind the scenes are: set-up/take-down, kitchen/dining room, prayer chapel, set-up/take-down of candlelight, music, and support. There are sign-up sheets in these areas and it very important that you sign in so we will have a record of your servanthood. For a new pilgrim, you have to wait one year and serve behind the scenes at least twice to be eligible to serve on a conference room team. If you are eligible to serve on a team and the newly appointed Lay Director calls you to serve, please return their call in a timely fashion. They are trying to build the team and if you can’t serve, they will need to contact another name. If they can’t get in touch with you, they have no other choice but to move on as they assemble their conference room team.

Please come and serve in any of these areas during a walk. You will be truly blessed to serve.

Team Selection Chair, Chris Miller

Attention Clergy: Clergy teams are being assembled for the 2011-2012 walks. If you have an interest in serving on an Emmaus Walk, please e-mail Rev. Brad Thie at [email protected] or call him at 828-234-3389 and leave a message. We are in the process of trying to get a complete listing of available clergy. Even if you think I have your information, please send me your name, e-mail and phone number. If you are United Methodist, it is helpful to know whether you are serving as an Elder, Deacon, Commissioned, or as a Local Pastor. Thanks, Rev. Brad Thie

Candle Light Service

I want to invite any and all Emmaus community members to join me in setting up for Candle Light at Knob Creek Church. We have a great time doing it and you'll get to take part in more of what goes on "behind the scenes". We usually meet at Camp Loy White at 3PM on Saturday afternoon to load up our equipment. We then arrive at the church around 3:30 and begin the set-up process. We need both men and ladies for volunteers. It only takes an hour or so to set-up. We also need volunteers for take-down after Candle Light is over. I guarantee you'll find it a rewarding experience, especially later when you get to see what God does with our service to Him. I look forward to seeing you all at Camp Loy White! De Colores! Dwin Caldwell

If you have a CDL license with a passenger endorsement and would like to help drive the pilgrims to & from candle light, please call David Sherrill at 828-234-0783. Your help is needed !!!!

All are welcome to set-up and clean-up for each meal. Those who are not a sponsor or a close relative of a pilgrim may serve during the meal. We especially need help on Fridays because most people have to work. If you are retired or are available at meal times on Friday, your help would be appreciated. I always trust God - He will provide the help needed. Please remember that serv-ing in the dining hall requires one to serve quietly and anonymously. If we can serve during the weekend and the pilgrims do not remember us, then we have done our jobs to serve with love and without recognition as Christ served. Questions? Please contact Leroy Leonhardt

Here are some ways YOU can help

Each walk I am amazed by the servants that God sends to make each weekend happen and this spring was no exception! There was an outpouring of help behind the scenes and each person there was greatly appreciated. I am truly honored to get to serve alongside so many faithful servants. For anyone who is new to the community, we operate on faith, asking for help in the kitchen and other areas throughout the weekend. You do not need to sign up ahead of time to serve behind the scenes. Food preparation starts on Thursday afternoon around 2:00 pm and tear down of the kitchen takes place around 1:00 on Sunday afternoon. We welcome you to join us anytime during the weekend, as we start preparing for breakfast the night before and 2-3 hours before each meal is to be served. Please feel free to come back and serve for even one meal , to stay for the weekend or come early for closing and help tear down the kitchen. If you are looking for a way to help out during the Emmaus walks but are limited to how much free time you have on the weekends, come out an hour or two early before closing and fill a need that is often overlooked. We really need your help in closing down the kitchen on Sunday afternoons since everything needs to be completely cleaned out and stored away. This is a great ministry for those of you that plan on being at closing anyway, and will also give you a chance to sign in and serve so that you are considered to be on a conference team later. DeColores, Jackie Smith

From the Kitchen

Follow-Up It has been decided that if you come early and help set up for follow-up, or stay late and help take it down, you will now be allowed to sign the “behind the scenes” sign up sheet. This will give you credit towards being eligible to serve on a confer-ence room Team.

• Bring 2 liter sodas or bottled water for the

weekend

Reunion Groups

Please let me know if any new Reunion Groups have been

started so we can be sure to keep a current list on the website

and if someone calls new to the area and may be looking to join

a Reunion Group, we will have the most current information.

Also, please be sure to encourage your Reunion Groups to

come out and help behind the scenes during the walks and to

come to candlelight. I have asked before that even if you don’t

have a pilgrim on the walk, I believe as a community we need to

show our support at Candlelight for the pilgrims.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to seeing you

at the fall walks. DeColores, Cindy Heard
