About Emily Post

• The name Emily Post has been the definite source on etiquette for generations of Americans. Above all, The Emily Post Institute conducts seminars and trainings, and partners with businesses’ and non-profit organizations to bring etiquette and manners to a world wide audience. Spanning five generations, this family business maintains and evolves the standards of etiquette that Emily Post established with her seminal book Etiquette in 1922 (Emily Post Inc., 2015).

Why the Emily Post website?• Emily Post is a print and online resource where you can access

information on how to use appropriate mannerisms in any situation.

• Emily Post offers how to training in: Business, Wedding, and lifestyle etiquette.

• The purpose of this presentation is to show you, the user, how to search the website and find information on being etiquette.

• In this presentation we will search the keyword, “job interview tips.”

Ways to search Emily Post Website

• There are two ways to search the Emily Post website.

• As a user, you may click the, “Etipedia” tab at the top of the navigation bar.

• There, you can select sub-categories on learning how to be etiquette in any situation ranging from:

• Everyday manners, out and about, communication and technology, social life, getting the job, on the job mannerisms, home and family life, weddings, and forms of address.

• For our discussion, we will use the “Search the Etipedia” feature.

Let’s begin to search

• For our first search, we wanted to look up “job interview tips” because let’s say, you’re interested in making a good impression on your interview.

• When on the Emily Post website, in the top right corner of the page, type what you’re looking for in the provided search box.

• Next, click “Search the Etipedia.”

Results• Our search concluded with 13 results.

You have options

• Let’s say you are specifically looking for, “job interview tips” and are not interested in the 13 results. Not to worry, you have options!

• Try clicking, “Exact Phrase,” and, “Newest First” under ordering. This will help narrow down your search options.

• Also, try checking off the options, “Articles, Web Links, Categories, or Sections.”

• Now, click “Search” again.

Different Results• Right away, you noticed the first result is, “Job Interview Tips

101” which is exactly what you’re looking for.

Another Option

• You can use a Boolean operation to narrow your result as well.

• To do this, you want to use “quotations” around the keyword you’re looking for.

• For example, try typing in “Job interview tips.”

• Now click, “Search the Etipedia” to see your results.

Exact Results• Once you do this, do you notice something?

• You automatically returned an “exact phrase” search, and your “job interview tips” keyword had 4 results.

Your Results• You found your desired page; this result page gives you “how to” job

interview tips.• You have the opportunity to download a PDF file, print the article

directly, or E-mail the article to yourself or a friend.

There is more!

• Emily Post offers users more “how to” options for learning etiquette.

• To access specific areas of the Emily Post website, click any of the categories at the top of the page.

• Each page is unique, and we will look at each individually.

Business Etiquette• The Business Training section of the website is accessed via the tab,

at the top of the page. From here, users can view articles on:

• Scheduling Business etiquette seminars, attend personal branding seminars, book one-on-one consulting, attend online e-learning classes, and engage in 5-day business etiquette training programs.

Wedding Etiquette• The Wedding Etiquette section of the website is accessed via the

tab, at the top of the page. From here, users can view articles on:

• Get help planning a wedding, choose the right photography, get wedding invitation help, obtain bride and groom advice, get family and guest etiquette ideas, as well as learn attendee wedding roles.

Lifestyle Etiquette• The Lifestyle Etiquette section of the website is accessed via the tab,

at the top of the page. From here, users can view articles on:

• Every day “how to” advice on being etiquette while using technology, entertaining guests and hosting parties, as well as holiday functions.

Home and Family• The Home and Family section of the website is accessed via the tab,

at the top of the page. From here, users can view articles on:

• How to teach children mannerisms, tip sheets, and games that will help teach children of all ages.

Q & A Blog• The Q&A blog is an open thread where you can discuss

current and traditional etiquette.

• Users are encouraged to ask questions to other members and the administrators.

• To do this, you would scroll down to the bottom of the page and leave a comment in the appropriate field.

Emily Post Bookstore• Users are encouraged to visit the bookstore for more information on

etiquette.
