Castle Queribus

The castle Queribus was the last Cathar Castle. In 1244, the castle Montsegur fell after a long siege. The surviving Cathars gathered together in the Corbieres in a stronghold named Queribus. He is high and isolated and it stands on top the high peak. It is accessible to visitors. We can drive to the castle but, we have to walk for the last meters. The entrance of the castle is narrow to defend itself and there are a lot of arrow slits.

Cathar stronghold after 10 mouth siege in 1244. 200 persons were burned alive because they didn’t want to renounce to their faith.

At the end of the twelfth century, there is a building who sheltered Cathar women. At the begining of the thirteenth century, the castle became one of the defence for the Spain border.

It’s open to the public and in the nearby village of Montsegur, we can find a museum.
