Less weight without having to reduce security and comfort; but quality and functional relia-bility are increased – this is achieved by using lighter materials like aluminium, thinner steel sheet, and by using, instead of metal parts, plastic elements with creative and intelligent design.

The support of the accelerator pedal, the fas-teners of the lights, the covers and panels, or the inserts and rear shelves: many parts can be fastened easily and with a low mounting torque. We offer plastic nuts with most differ-ent flange diameters, shapes and lengths for every application. A major advantage of the plastic nut is its pre-formed thread.

Low weight, low mounting forces but secure assembly

Even though the weight of the assembly is reduced, a higher mechanical solidity and thermal stability can be achieved. This is ensured by the use of a plastic material with special thermoplastic matrix and glass-fibre reinforcement. As the thread is already pre-formed, the necessary twist-on torque is re-duced. This leads to a significantly improved adjustment range between twist-on and over-twisting torque and the nut can be mounted with a lower torque. Ideally suited for thin steel sheets and sensitive parts.

Carpeting and insulation blankets

Caps for the covering of openings which re-quire a clean finish. Snap fasteners for the fastening of carpeting, panelling, insulation or covers in the vehicle interior. But also for fix-ing cable and pipe retainers. The multi-finger locking system as stud retainer ensures that the snap fastener can be mounted with only little pressure – either manually, semi or fully automatically.

Wheel Arch Shells

In contrast to today’s frequent industrial use of dowels and screws for the fixing of wheel arch shells, Emhart Teknologies offers its own and significantly more efficient system. It consists of a clip and a T-stud which are set fully-automatically by a Tucker stud welding system on the body-in-white. In the final as-sembly, the clip is just pushed manually onto the T-stud and is locked in place. The main advantages are, apart from a quick, easy, and tool-free assembly, its absolute gas- and wa-ter-tightness and the low height of this stud-and-clip solution.

Underbody panelling

Already today we are offering a wide range of systems solutions for the fastening of un-derbody panelling. Our product range covers components ranging from plastic nuts with pre-formed threads to fastening elements al-ready mounted on the body-in-white.

Underbody panelling with pre-assembled plastic nuts is the standard in the automotive industry today. The future in panelling assem-bly, however, is tool-free assembly with simple push-on systems. UB-Fast. Underbody panel-ling has just to be pushed onto the fastening elements welded on the body-in-white.

Economical solutions

A large number of our fastening elements is used with cable harnesses. Cable ties, bundling clips, cable retainers, cable chan-nels and parts for secure earthing contact with anti-rotation protection are parts of the fastening concept for on-board electrical systems. These parts are also developed ac-cording to customer specification and meet all standards concerning safety, environmental protection, and conditions of assembly.

Based on steadily increasing demands on ap-plication for the routing of cable harnesses to be reliable and efficient, our precisely fitting fastening elements are employed and form the optimum connection between cable har-ness and mounting location.

Cable channels hold cables of most different cross-sections and basic materials exactly in a pre-defined location and save space. As a further advantage they protect cables against damage. Due to its fastening on a weld stud, a durable and reliable mounting which lasts for a car’s lifetime is guaranteed.

Standardized Fasteners – Modular Clips

The standardized Emhart components are a cost-effective and efficient fastening solution for cable harnesses of the most different sizes and thicknesses. System-clip modules cover the most different demands.

High cost-effectiveness, simple manual assem-bly, smallest possible dimensions and compen-sation for tolerances are the characteristics of the Emhart solution for cable harness fastening.

Trim Strips and Sealing.

Function for design

A large number of trim strips on the vehicle exterior, as for example on the sides, the tail and the roof area, need secure and durable fastening for the complete lifetime of an au-tomobile and have to resist different environ-mental influences (temperature, road salt etc) as well as automatic car wash systems.

The hole-free fastening method for trim strips offers the advantage of being an absolutely water-tight fastening. In addition, thanks to the use of plastics there is no possibility of corrosion at all. This is one of the basic re-quirements, for example in the area of the outer sill.

We also offer different solutions for assem-blies with drilled holes. The fastening ele-ment has to be developed according to the supplier’s specifications as well as to the con-ditions of the fastening on the car body. Taken together, these two conditions are decisive for an easy and economical assembly in the production line.

Emhart Teknologies offers an automatic as-sembly system for a wide range of applications, for example for trim-strip fasteners as well as for sealing.

PLASTIFAST® stands for feeding, positioning, and setting in one process cycle with 100% process security.

The clips moulded onto the flexible parts car-rier („Monofil“) are held accurately and true to the mounting position until they are set (setting process) in the mounting location; constantly controlled by the PLASTIFAST®-system – an Emhart Teknologies patent.

After the automatic separation from the con-tinuous carrier string, the clip is set or proc-essed with short mounting distances precisely on the pre-defined position.

Fastening types / assembly

A wide range of different fastening types is covered by Emhart and designed for each customer individually. This includes for ex-ample applications for coarse thread studs or T-studs or also for applications with drilled holes, like fastening in round or elongated holes. Low push-on forces and high pull-off forces guarantee easy and thus economical processes in the production line.

Materials / properties

Careful selection of materials guarantees con-stant properties already with the setting of the clips. Even the fulfilment of demands close to the limit, as for example concerning high temperature ranges, as well as the demand for material versions that are environmentally friendly and easy to recycle can be guaranteed at any time.

Most different materials can be processed: PA, POM, TEEE, TPE – only to mention the mate-rials used most frequently. Depending on the mounting location, clip colours are agreed with the customer. A temperature range between -40°C up to 180°C is covered by the fastening systems made by Emhart Teknologies. But also customer requirements for temperatures ex-ceeding this range can be met.
